DoMS applicants use TANCET and then follow the admission authority’s process
For the regular MBA route, the DoMS page says selection is merit-based on TANCET performance and describes higher-scoring candidates being called for counselling. Anna University’s TANCET 2026 brochure lists MBA programmes at University Departments among the programmes for which TANCET is conducted. It also states that candidates must take the test and then apply to the admitting authorities concerned. A TANCET registration is therefore a test application, not an MBA application or a seat offer.
The 2026-27 brochure and TANCET notice are historical cycle documents. They show the most recent fully specified official process found during this review, but they do not establish the next intake’s application dates, counselling timetable or seat matrix. DoMS’s own information points to TANCET and counselling, while the TANCET portal links MBA/MCA counselling information to the state’s admissions process. When the next notice is released, confirm whether DoMS has any separate application step, what documents are required, and how counselling preferences and allotment work. Do not reuse the 2026 application deadline for a future cycle.
The university also lists category-specific MBA applications under NRI, Foreign National and Children of Indian Workers in Gulf Countries categories, alongside a Consortium of Industries route. These notices are separate from the regular TANCET counselling route. Their existence does not substantiate a general management quota or imply that a candidate may bypass eligibility and merit requirements.
Check degree pattern and marks before paying to register
In the TANCET 2026 brochure, MBA applicants needed a recognised bachelor’s degree of at least three years and at least 50% marks. The stated threshold is 45% for BC, BCM, MBC, SC, SCA and ST candidates belonging to Tamil Nadu. The brochure lists qualifying patterns including 10+2 followed by a three-, four- or five-year degree; a three-year diploma plus a later degree; and specified AMIE routes with two years of experience. The exact listed route and category conditions matter. If your degree structure or state-category status is not explicit, ask the responsible admissions authority to confirm eligibility rather than assuming that “any graduate” qualifies.
Final-year candidates taking their qualifying examination during academic year 2025-26 were permitted to apply for TANCET 2026. This is a past-cycle allowance, not a standing guarantee for 2027-28. The brochure warns that permission to write the entrance test does not itself confer admission eligibility; the admitting authority makes the final decision. Candidates should retain the degree and mark-sheet records needed to prove the qualifying pattern and percentage when the admission notice specifies document verification.
The TANCET brochure reports the 2026 MBA exam on 9 May, 2:30-4:30 p.m. and the last date to apply as 10 April 2026. Both dates have passed. The listed TANCET examination fee was ₹500 for SC/SCA/ST candidates belonging to Tamil Nadu and ₹1,000 for others. That is an entrance-test fee only; it is not DoMS tuition, counselling charges for every admission category, or the total cost of the MBA. For the next cycle, check the new brochure for the fee, registration portal and exam date before making a payment.
A safe application sequence for a future cycle
- Find the cycle-specific notices. Use the Anna University/DoMS admission pages and the TANCET portal. Confirm the programme name, academic year, applicant category, last date and whether DoMS is included in the relevant counselling notice.
- Check the eligibility pattern. Match the exact degree route and mark threshold to the current brochure. If the rule depends on Tamil Nadu nativity or a specified category, verify what certificate and jurisdiction are required.
- Register for the MBA test. Complete the TANCET application before the published deadline, keep its acknowledgement and payment record, and sit the MBA paper at the allotted centre. In 2026 the MBA paper was a two-hour afternoon test; future timings may differ.
- Keep the score card and then apply for admission. The 2026 brochure says MBA/MCA applicants must appear for TANCET and apply separately to the admitting authority concerned. Follow the current counselling instructions, not a coaching-site cutoff prediction.
- Complete counselling and document checks. The DoMS page describes higher-scoring candidates being called for counselling. Use the live official merit list, seat matrix and allotment instructions to determine preference entry, document verification, fee payment and reporting requirements. The current public sources reviewed do not establish next-cycle dates or a guaranteed rank for admission.
This sequence separates the exam authority from the later admission decision. It also helps prevent common mistakes: registering for the wrong paper, assuming an exam score automatically enters counselling, relying on a prior-year deadline, or treating a category-specific notice as a regular-seat application.
No universal percentile cutoff is established by the official material reviewed
The DoMS home page says admission is merit-based on TANCET performance, but the official pages reviewed here do not publish a current DoMS opening/closing score or a universal percentile threshold for the regular MBA route. The 2026 brochure provides eligibility rules and exam details; it is not a DoMS cutoff table. Do not treat the old profile’s “99.4 percentile” claim as a verified requirement: it lacks a source, category, seat type, counselling round and year.
For a useful cutoff comparison, wait for the responsible MBA/MCA counselling authority’s official year-specific allotment or rank data. Keep category, round, institution/department, seat category and metric together; a qualifying-test condition is not the same as an admission closing rank. If an official report does not expose a comparable DoMS row, record that gap instead of borrowing a score from another Anna University department, a different college or an aggregator. For 2027-28, treat dates, eligibility details, seats and cutoffs as pending until the responsible authorities publish that cycle’s documents.
