Hindu College of Engineering in Sonepat is a study in contrasts. It’s a private institution with a quarter-century of history, approved by the AICTE and accredited by the NBA, yet it doesn’t appear in the official NIRF Rankings. It claims placement percentages in the high 80s, but student reviews from 2025 tell a different story, with many citing figures closer to 35-40%. For a student with moderate JEE Main ranks looking for an affordable, no-frills engineering education in the Delhi NCR region, HCE presents a pragmatic, if unglamorous, option. But if your dream is a vibrant campus life with cutting-edge labs and guaranteed top-tier placements, you’ll likely leave disappointed. The reality, as always, sits somewhere in the messy middle.

Courses and Academic Programs at Hindu College of Engineering

HCE offers a standard spread of technical programs typical of a mid-tier private engineering college in North India. At the undergraduate level, the B.Tech program is the main draw, with seats in Civil, Computer Science, Electrical, Electronics & Communication, and Mechanical Engineering. There’s also a BCA program with a sizable 120-seat intake. For those looking at lateral entry, B.Tech (Lateral) and Diploma in Engineering (Polytechnic) pathways are available. At the postgraduate level, M.Tech is offered in Computer Science, Electronics & Communication, and Power Systems Engineering, with relatively small batch sizes (9 to 24 seats).

The academic calendar follows the typical university pattern, starting around August-September. The college mentions a minimum 6 CGPA requirement for placement eligibility, which is a common benchmark. A notable policy is the complimentary engineering education for female students, a significant fee waiver aimed at improving gender diversity. Faculty strength is listed at 38 teachers for 542 students, which is a decent student-teacher ratio on paper. Student sentiment consistently highlights the faculty as a strong point, describing them as experienced, knowledgeable, and surprisingly supportive—willing to help even after lectures. That’s a valuable asset in an institution of this tier.

Hindu College of Engineering Placements: Packages, Companies & Reality Check

This is where you need to read between the lines. The college’s official placement report cites a 2020 highest package of ₹10.5 LPA and an average of ₹5.15 LPA, with a claim of 781 placements that year. The recruiter list is impressive on paper, featuring names like Amazon, Microsoft, Siemens, TCS, Wipro, and Infosys.

But the story from current students and recent alumni is more tempered. Reviews from early 2025 mention highest packages around ₹4-6 LPA and averages hovering between ₹3-4.5 LPA. The placement percentage claim of 80-90% is frequently contested. One student review states plainly, "In my course, nearly 35 to 40% of students get placed in this college." Another specifically calls out placements for the Computer Science branch as "very bad." That gap between the official brochure and the student narrative is the most critical data point here.

It seems the placement cell is active and brings in companies, but the outcomes are modest. Core engineering sectors and IT services dominate. The college also promotes collaborations with Microsoft, Cisco, and Oracle for paid internships, and many students secure internships in their final year, including at firms like Shakaltech and Ancraft. The verdict? Expect a chance at placement, likely in the ₹3-4.5 LPA range, but don’t bank on the headline-grabbing numbers. A significant portion of students will be looking for opportunities off-campus.

Fees and Financial Aid at Hindu College of Engineering

HCE’s fee structure is one of its competitive advantages. For the 2026 academic year, annual B.Tech tuition ranges from ₹48,000 to ₹76,335, which is quite reasonable for a private engineering college in the NCR. The total program fee for B.Tech is listed as ₹2,96,000. When you add in hostel and mess charges (₹56,000 per year for boys), the total four-year cost lands in the ballpark of ₹4.5 to ₹5.7 lakhs, excluding transport. That’s a manageable investment for many middle-class families.

The college offers a range of scholarships which helps. There are merit-based awards for high scorers in entrance exams or board results, and need-based support for students from economically weaker sections. Category-based scholarships for Haryana domicile and single girl children are available. Notably, there’s a specific ₹20,000 scholarship for all girl students and meritorious boys scoring above 75%. These schemes can substantially reduce the financial burden.

Admissions: Eligibility, Cutoffs & Selection Process

Admission to the B.Tech program is primarily through state-level counseling based on entrance exam ranks. HCE accepts JEE Main scores and, more commonly, the Haryana State Technical Education Society (HSTES) entrance exam. The cutoffs are accessible. For the 2024 JEE Main round (Home State Quota), the overall cutoff range was between 4 lakh and 13 lakh rank. For HSTES 2025, the closing ranks for B.Tech in Round 2 spanned from roughly 5.3 lakh to 14.5 lakh.

Take Electrical Engineering in the 2025 HSTES round: the closing rank for the General category was 532,642. That gives you a clear idea of the rank band. For lateral entry B.Tech, the HSTES ranks are much lower, in the 400-1300 range. M.Tech admissions require a GATE score. The selection process is straightforward: qualify in the exam, register for HSTES counseling, and choose HCE during your turn. The college also mentions a direct admission route by obtaining a form from the campus, but the counseling route is the standard and recommended path.

Campus, Hostels and Student Life

The 10-acre campus in Sonepat’s industrial area is functional. Infrastructure includes separate department buildings, smart classrooms, and a library stocked with over 74,000 books and a reading hall for 200. Labs for each engineering discipline are present, though student reviews offer a mixed bag: some call them well-equipped, while others note equipment can feel "somewhat outdated." Wi-Fi is available across campus, but its reliability and speed are occasionally questioned in reviews.

Hostel life gets generally positive marks. Separate facilities for boys and girls offer furnished rooms with ventilation and security. The mess food, a constant pain point in many colleges, is repeatedly praised here as "good," "tasty," and hygienic. That’s a big win for student well-being.

Where HCE falls short, according to student sentiment, is in vibrant campus life. The campus is described as small, with limited extracurricular buzz. Sports facilities exist for cricket, football, basketball, etc., but are often called basic. A common complaint is the lack of major cultural fests and events. One review summed it up: "Campus Life zero without the fest." So, if you’re looking for a bustling, event-filled college experience, this might feel quiet.

Student Reviews: What Hindu College of Engineering Alumni Really Think

Sifting through student feedback paints a consistent picture. The positives are steady: good faculty, decent hostels, and above-average mess food. Many call it a "value for money" option given the low fees. The supportive teaching staff is the most frequently praised asset.

The negatives are just as consistent. Placement outcomes are viewed with skepticism, with many feeling the official stats don’t reflect the ground reality of moderate packages and lower placement rates. Infrastructure, while adequate, is often seen as needing modernization. The campus social life is rated as dull or limited, with a desire for more events and better sports engagement. Some older reviews (circa 2017) were harsh on management, but recent reviews focus more on these functional aspects rather than administrative criticism.

The takeaway? Students who come for an affordable degree and are proactive in their learning find it satisfactory. Those who expect the college to hand them a high-flying career or a thrilling social life often end up frustrated.

Verdict: Is Hindu College of Engineering Worth It?

Hindu College of Engineering is a pragmatic choice for a specific type of student. If you have a JEE Main/HSTES rank in the 4-10 lakh range, are budget-conscious, and are seeking a straightforward B.Tech degree from an AICTE and NBA-approved college in the NCR, HCE makes logical sense. Its low fees, supportive faculty, and decent basic amenities offer a stable, no-surprises education. The scholarships, especially for female students, add to its appeal. You can get your degree here without financial strain.

However, you must manage your expectations. Don’t enroll banking on the highest placement packages you see in brochures; treat them as outliers. Be prepared to supplement your campus placement chances with off-campus efforts. If a vibrant, modern campus with a buzzing social scene is important to you, you’ll likely find HCE lacking. It’s a college for the self-motivated learner who sees the degree as a launchpad, not a destination. For that purpose, and within its fee bracket, it can be a worthwhile option. For those with higher ranks or aspirations for top-tier campus drives, looking at more competitive institutions would be advisable.
