IIM Jammu scholarships: 2026-28 MBA aid and eligibility
IIM Jammu’s MBA handbook for the 2026-28 batch describes a need-cum-merit financial assistance scheme, ministry scholarships and a separate education-loan arrangement. It does not promise that every eligible applicant receives support. The handbook also contains a wording tension: its introduction says schemes may be proposed for the future, while section 16.1 says the need-cum-merit scheme has been instituted after Board approval. Confirm with the institute whether the scheme is open for your batch before budgeting around a waiver. (MBA Handbook, batch 2026-28, section 16)
Need-cum-merit assistance described for the MBA
The handbook says the need-cum-merit scheme is for financially weak, meritorious students in the second year. To qualify under the listed academic rule, a student must have a CGPA of at least 7.00 at the end of the first year and no D or F grade. The family-income test includes parents, the student and spouse, and is based on gross annual family income.
These are tuition-fee waivers, not a percentage off the full course total. The handbook does not say that the waiver covers other academic and non-academic charges, mess bills or the refundable deposit. It also says the total number of recipients in any year cannot exceed 10% of the batch strength. That is a cap on awards, not a guarantee that 10% of students will receive them.
The printed income bands leave exactly ₹3,00,000 unassigned: one band says “below” ₹3,00,000 and the next begins at ₹3,00,001. The published wording does not specify how that exact value is handled. Ask the programme office to confirm the calculation, evidence requirements and active threshold for your batch. Do not resolve the gap by assuming a rounding rule.
The handbook adds other conditions: no disciplinary case during study, no scholarship or financial assistance/support from another source, and continued fulfilment of the listed conditions throughout the second year. Because the award is described for second-year students and academic performance after first year, it should not be treated as an upfront fee reduction at admission. Keep the source year visible: these terms come from the 2026-28 MBA handbook, not a published 2027-29 award notice. (MBA Handbook, batch 2026-28, section 16.1)
Ministry scholarships are a separate route
For SC/ST scholarships, the handbook says IIM Jammu facilitates awards made by ministries including Social Justice and Empowerment, Tribal Affairs and Minority Affairs. Students apply to the respective ministry through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP), with the institute facilitating the remaining process. It does not give an award amount, current application window or full eligibility checklist in this section.
The handbook separately says eligible minority students, based on family income, can apply for a Ministry of Minority Affairs scholarship through NSP, with institute facilitation. This is not the same award as the institute’s need-cum-merit scheme. Ministry eligibility, category documents, income limits, deadlines and permitted combinations are determined by the relevant scheme and current notice. The institute handbook does not establish that an applicant automatically qualifies because they meet the MBA scheme’s CGPA or income conditions. (MBA Handbook, batch 2026-28, sections 16.2-16.3)
Loans are not scholarships
The handbook also describes loan arrangements with banks for students who need to finance educational expenses. It says IIM Jammu may recommend a student to a lending organisation, but procurement and repayment are agreed between the student and lender; the institute says it carries no financial or other obligation connected with the loan. A loan may spread payment over time, but it is repayable and should not be counted as a fee waiver or grant. Ask the lender directly about interest, collateral, processing, repayment start date and co-borrower terms. (MBA Handbook, batch 2026-28, section 16.4)
Questions to confirm before relying on aid
- Is the need-cum-merit scheme active for your exact programme and batch, given the handbook’s future-schemes introduction and instituted-scheme wording?
- How does the institute treat family income of exactly ₹3,00,000, and what date or income period is used?
- Which tuition line is waived, and are any other fees or charges excluded?
- How are awards selected when eligible applicants exceed the 10%-of-batch cap?
- Which documents prove income, first-year CGPA, grades and absence of other support?
- For a ministry award, what are the current NSP deadline, category documents and scheme conditions?
- For a loan, what are the lender’s repayment terms and what does an institute recommendation mean?
Until IIM Jammu confirms the current batch rules in writing, budget using the published fee schedule without assuming a scholarship. The captured sources describe 2026-28 MBA support pathways but do not establish a current award amount, a 2027-29 scheme notice, or scholarship rules for IPM, BBA, Executive MBA, HA&HM or doctoral programmes.
