For a realistic semester budget, separate four things: tuition after any verified remission; mandatory institute and academic charges; hostel, hall and mess expenses; and refundable deposits or personal costs. Check whether the quoted bill covers one semester, one-time admission charges, a full year or refundable money. A headline number without this basis can misstate what a student must pay at admission and what recurs later.

The 2024–25 official fee schedule also itemises tuition and semester heads, but it is older and should be used only as historical context. The 2026 freshman guide is newer, but its embedded total is still explicitly labelled tentative for the 2025 admission cohort. Neither source settles the payable 2027–28 amount. I have therefore not extrapolated a future invoice or treated tuition remission as an all-fee waiver.

Before paying, use the IIT Kharagpur ERP instructions and the official fee notice for your admission batch. Confirm the programme, semester, category, family-income band, hostel status, refundable deposits and any waiver documentation. If a fee table says tentative or refers to a different admission year, ask the Academic Section for the final applicable amount. Keep payment receipts and verified income-document status in ERP, because the institute’s guide ties fee adjustment to document verification.

As of 27 October 2026, no final IIT Kharagpur 2027–28 UG fee schedule was available in the opened sources. The historical figures here are labelled for their actual scope so applicants can understand the bill structure without mistaking them for current charges.
