Start with the scheme year and governing notice
IIIT-Delhi offers several forms of student support, but an applicant should first identify the scheme, intake year, and the latest governing order. The institute’s Office Order No. 129/2025, dated 24 October 2025, says its listed scholarship schemes would be implemented from AY 2025-26 and supersedes an earlier order. It sets terms for the Chairman’s Scholarship, Women Empowerment Scholarship in STEAM Education (WESSE), and the Merit cum Means (MCM) Scholarship. The full office order is the strongest source for the detailed conditions below. Read Office Order No. 129/2025.
The institute’s BTech 2026 admissions page also summarizes scholarship rules, but its indexed text does not match the 2025 order on the WESSE marks threshold and MCM eligibility. The live page could not be opened during this check. Because those differences can change eligibility, this guide states the order’s terms with its AY 2025-26 scope and calls out the conflict rather than treating either summary as a confirmed AY 2026-27 change. Confirm the applicable rule with IIIT-Delhi before relying on a threshold.
Chairman’s Scholarship
The 2025 order awards incoming students with a JEE Main rank within the top 1,000 a scholarship covering 100% of tuition fees. Students with a rank between 1,000 and 2,000 are listed for a 50% tuition scholarship. The institute’s BTech 2026 admissions page repeats the same headline tiers and says the scheme applies for four years subject to additional terms. The order’s detailed terms are the reference for continuation and scholarship overlap. See the 2026 BTech admissions summary.
The order’s wording places rank 1,000 in both “within the top 1000” and “between 1000-2000”. It does not clarify the boundary in the excerpt. If your JEE Main rank is exactly 1,000, ask the admissions or scholarship office which tier applies. Do not treat “between” as a precise inclusive range without the institute’s confirmation. The awards cover tuition; they should not be read as a waiver of hostel, mess, or other charges.
Continuation and other scholarship awards
For a Chairman’s Scholarship awarded in the first year, the 2025 order allows continuation for up to eight active semesters if the student maintains a CGPA of at least 7.5 at the end of the previous academic year, has no more than one F grade across the previous year’s two semesters, and has no academic dishonesty or disciplinary violation. Approved semester leave does not count toward the eight active semesters, but the scholarship is not paid during that leave. Students requiring semesters beyond the standard four-year degree period are not eligible for an extension of this scholarship.
The order says a recipient must apply for other government or private scholarships for which they are eligible. If the student receives another award, IIIT-Delhi adjusts its scholarship by the external amount so total scholarship support does not exceed tuition fees. In practice, disclose other awards and confirm the payable amount with the institute; do not assume two tuition awards can be added in full. These conditions are from the order implemented from AY 2025-26. Check the full order for the exact conditions.
WESSE: the published marks threshold conflicts
Under Office Order No. 129/2025, WESSE covers 50% of tuition for up to 100 female students admitted to any IIIT-Delhi BTech programme who have more than 95% aggregate in Class 12. The same order applies its continuation conditions: CGPA at least 7.5, no more than one F grade across the previous two semesters, no academic dishonesty or disciplinary violation, and a maximum of eight active semesters. Other scholarship support is subject to the order’s application and adjustment terms.
The institute’s BTech 2026 admissions page’s indexed summary instead says the top 100 female students need more than 90% aggregate. The scholarship page’s indexed text also shows a 90% threshold. Both are official institute pages, but they conflict with the 2025 office order’s more-than-95% requirement, and the pages could not be directly opened in this research pass. No later order resolving the difference was found. A student near either threshold should obtain written confirmation for the relevant intake before deciding whether to apply. The 2025 governing order and the BTech 2026 admissions page show the conflicting summaries.
Merit cum Means Scholarship
The 2025 order makes BTech students in all four years eligible for a 100% tuition-fee waiver if they are beneficiaries of the National Food Security Scheme and/or belong to the Below Poverty Line category, with a valid card under the respective scheme. Applicants submit a fresh application each year after the fee-payment deadline for both Monsoon and Winter semesters. The institute verifies the submitted details and awards support after approval by the competent authority. The order says there is no academic-performance requirement for a first-year applicant.
For continuation after the first year, the order requires the student to continue meeting the eligibility criteria, maintain a CGPA of at least 7.0 at the end of the previous academic year, have no more than one F grade across its two semesters, and have no academic dishonesty or disciplinary violation. Coverage is limited to eight active semesters; approved leave is not funded and does not count toward those eight semesters. Other awards are adjusted against tuition so the combined scholarship amount does not exceed the tuition fee.
The BTech 2026 page’s indexed summary describes MCM as available in the second, third and fourth years to National Food Security Scheme beneficiaries, which is narrower than the 2025 order. The accessible evidence does not establish whether the admissions summary is stale or an updated rule. Verify the first-year and BPL provisions with the scholarship office for AY 2026-27 before treating them as current.
Application documents and a practical next step
For the Chairman’s Scholarship, WESSE and MCM, the 2025 order requires an affidavit-cum-undertaking on ₹100 non-judicial stamp paper, attested by an Executive Magistrate or Notary Public. It includes a declaration about other scholarships, a duty to inform IIIT-Delhi if another award is received, and an adjustment clause so total scholarship support does not exceed tuition. Read the full notice before preparing documents; the institute may prescribe an application form or timeline separately.
Before accepting an award, confirm three items with the scholarship office: which order applies to your admission year, how the institute interprets any threshold at a boundary, and whether another government or private scholarship changes the amount payable. The BTech 2026 admissions page is a useful starting point, but the current information available here does not verify an AY 2027-28 deadline or a superseding scheme order. Do not use an older award notice as evidence of a current application window for a later intake.
