What the published LPU Online scholarship policy covers
LPU’s Centre for Distance and Online Education (CDOE) publishes a scholarship policy for online-learning students. The linked policy says it applies from the 2024-25 sessions onwards. It gives detailed conditions for achievement-based sports and cultural scholarships and a scheme for certain applicants with benchmark disability and locomotor disability caused by spinal cord injury. LPU’s separate Best Practices report lists other online-student scholarship categories, including female students and LGBTQIA applicants, but the detailed policy text reviewed here does not set out their current eligibility, award levels or application steps. Treat those summary categories as leads to confirm with the university, not as a confirmed award for a 2027-28 applicant.
The policy is not an automatic fee discount. It requires an application, supporting evidence and university verification, and says the university decides whether the award is admissible. It also limits the achievement schemes to Indian applicants. The source pages checked on 6 November 2026 do not establish a 2027-28 scholarship deadline or guarantee that the policy’s listed benefits will remain unchanged for that intake.
Achievement-based sports and cultural awards
The policy distinguishes two levels. Category A+ is for verified international-level achievements in sports, research and development, social service, bravery awards, cultural activities or co-curricular activities. Category A is for verified national-level achievements in those listed fields. For the sports and cultural scheme, the achievement must be no more than three years old on the date of admission. The policy’s annexure names sports considered for the award; check that list and the relevant category before assuming that a particular competition or activity qualifies.
The stated benefits differ by category. A+ lists a full waiver of programme, examination and registration fees and also lists other charges such as re-evaluation, reappear and certificate fees where applicable, plus hostel and mess fee waiver as and when required. Category A lists a full waiver of programme, examination and registration fees. These are the policy’s stated benefits, not a calculation of your total cost. Confirm in writing which components apply to your online programme, whether a charge is covered in your case, and whether any non-covered costs remain. Do not assume an online student will receive a residential benefit simply because the policy mentions hostel or mess in its A+ terms.
Applicants must send an application with proof of achievement and qualifying documents for verification by the sports department. LPU evaluates the documents and makes the decision. The policy states that the scholarship applies to Indian applicants, admission must be completed by the last date of admissions, and original documents will be verified. It says the benefit lasts for the programme’s maximum duration, but the university may revoke or cancel it under the stated terms. The policy also makes continued eligibility conditional on no disciplinary action and no academic-misconduct or unfair-means charge in later terms.
Disability-related award and its scope
The same policy describes a full-fee-waiver scheme for applicants with benchmark disability and locomotor disability caused by spinal cord injury. The applicant submits disability documents together with the eligibility documents for the chosen study programme. The case is reviewed by a committee that includes CDOE, Student Welfare and the Spinal Cord Injury Association, Jalandhar; the scholarship is granted after committee approval. The policy asks for medical proof from a civil hospital or equivalent, or a higher government authority, and says original documents are verified.
The document uses its own eligibility definitions and says they are adapted from the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016. It describes benchmark disability using a 70 per cent threshold in the relevant circumstances and excludes blindness and deafness in its definition. Because the policy’s wording is specific and not identical to the Act, an applicant should not self-determine eligibility from a general disability category. Ask the university to confirm in writing whether the documented condition meets this scholarship’s exact criteria and which evidence the committee requires.
For the disability scheme, the policy lists programme, examination and registration fee waivers. It separately describes hostel and attendant provisions as ODL-mode provisions, so an online-mode applicant should not treat those residential items as a benefit for online study. The policy also says an applicant who qualifies for another LPU scholarship or monetary benefit must choose one scheme. Confirm which scheme is more valuable before accepting either award.
Other categories named in LPU’s summary
LPU’s official Best Practices report says online students may receive scholarships of up to 100 per cent fee waiver and names national or international achievers, persons with disability, sports and cultural performers, female students and LGBTQIA applicants. That summary is useful because it signals categories beyond the two detailed sections above. However, the detailed online-learning Scholarship Policy opened for this review does not provide operative eligibility, benefit calculations or document checklists for every category named in the summary. “Up to 100 per cent” is a maximum headline, not a promise that any applicant in a listed category receives a full waiver.
Before relying on one of these other categories, request its current policy or written terms from LPU Online. Ask for the eligibility definition, covered fee components, award duration, renewal conditions, required evidence, application route, decision timeline and whether the award can be combined with another scheme. Do not infer the terms of the female-student or LGBTQIA schemes from the achievement or spinal-cord-injury policy; their criteria may differ.
How to apply and plan your payment
The online scholarship policy connects application to the admissions process and the admission closing date. It does not give one calendar deadline for the next intake in the text reviewed. Check the current application portal and programme page for the correct session, then ask admissions for the scholarship application form and submission deadline for that same programme and intake. The university lists admissions contact details on its official pages; retain written confirmation of your category, fee coverage and submission status.
Prepare the evidence relevant to the award. For achievement-based applications, gather proof that identifies the event, achievement level and date, along with the qualifying documents LPU requests. The policy requires the achievement to fall within three years before admission and says original documents are checked. For the spinal-cord-injury scheme, provide medical proof from the authority specified in the policy and the academic eligibility documents for the programme. Submit accurate records; the policy says concealment or distortion can lead to cancellation of admission or scholarship.
Do not subtract a scholarship from the course fee until LPU confirms your award. The policy says applicants eligible for more than one monetary scheme, including an early-decision benefit, must select only one. Compare the covered programme, examination and registration charges against the other benefit, and ask which optional or one-time fees remain payable. If you are awarded a scholarship, save the written decision and check each term’s renewal conditions. Continued benefits may depend on the conduct conditions stated in the policy, and the university reserves the final decision on admissibility.
The official disclosure page links the online-learning scholarship policy. Review those terms with the exact programme page before enrolling. As checked on 6 November 2026, the detailed policy provides useful rules for achievement and spinal-cord-injury applicants, while the operative terms for several categories in the broader summary and a future 2027-28 deadline still need confirmation from LPU Online.
