MLV Textile & Engineering College in Bhilwara is a study in contrasts. It’s a government-run institute with a sprawling 41-acre campus that’s been around since 1988, originally as a polytechnic. Its reputation is built squarely on textiles. If you’re aiming for a career in that specific industry, the college’s name carries weight in Rajasthan and beyond. But if you’re a student in Computer Science, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering, the experience—and crucially, the outcomes—can be dramatically different. The data and student reviews paint a clear picture: this is a specialist institution that excels in its core domain while other departments struggle to keep pace. You’ll find modern labs next to outdated equipment, a fantastic library with spotty campus Wi-Fi, and placement claims that vary wildly depending on which classroom you’re sitting in.

Courses and Academic Programs at MLV Textile & Engineering College

The academic structure here tells you everything about the college's priorities. The seat allocation is the first clue. The B.Tech in Textile Technology has 120 seats. Fashion Technology gets 80. Then the numbers drop sharply: Electronics & Communication Engineering has 60, Mechanical has 40, and Computer Science and Civil Engineering have just 20 seats each. That’s not an accident. It’s a resource allocation strategy.

The focus is intensely practical, especially for the textile programs. The college boasts advanced weaving labs, dyeing units, and engineering workshops specifically geared toward textile manufacturing. There’s a strong emphasis on R&D and industry collaboration, with the institute providing commercial testing and project consultancy for textile firms. That’s a decent setup for hands-on learning in the field.

Academically, the system follows the RTU pattern with a 30-70 internal-external marks split. They run mid-term exams every three months, which count toward the final grade. Faculty reviews are generally positive; students describe them as knowledgeable and supportive, particularly within the textile departments. For postgraduates, there’s an M.Tech in Textile Technology and a Ph.D. program in Textiles, cementing its role as a specialist hub. You can find the official course list on the MLVTI website.

MLV Textile & Engineering College Placements: Packages, Recruiters & Reality Check

This is where the college’s split personality is most apparent. You have to look at placements by branch, not as a whole.

For Textile Technology and Textile Chemistry, the placement story is strong. The college claims placement rates nearing 100% for these branches, and student reviews largely back that up. They report figures like 80% or more. Recruiters are a who’s who of Indian textile giants: Vardhman Group, Sangam Group, Welspun, LNJ Group, JBF Filaments, and RSWM. The highest on-campus package mentioned is around 8 LPA, with off-campus roles reportedly going up to 12-18 LPA for standout candidates.

Now, for the non-textile branches—Mechanical, Civil, Computer Science, IT—the picture is starkly different. Reviews are blunt. One Mechanical Engineering alumnus stated, "there was no placement absolutely zero placement." Others in IT and similar fields talk about having to find their own jobs off-campus. The official "average" of 3.5 LPA is likely pulled down by these outcomes. Top IT recruiters like Infosys and TCS are listed, but their intake appears minimal and likely focused on a handful of students from the smaller batches.

The gap between the official brochure and what alumni say on forums is notable. If you’re not in a textile program, you should plan your career path with the assumption that the college’s placement cell may offer limited direct help. Internships follow a similar pattern: nearly all textile students get them, often with local industry partners, while other branches have a more mixed record.

Fees and Financial Aid at MLV Textile & Engineering College

One of the college’s biggest advantages is its cost. As a government institute, fees are low. The latest available data (2021-22) puts the total tuition for a 4-year B.Tech at just ₹1.96 lakhs, which works out to roughly ₹71,300 per year. Hostel fees were an additional ₹8,250. Even with mess and other costs, the total 4-year expense was estimated at around ₹2.58 lakhs back then—a fraction of what a private engineering college charges.

That’s a compelling value proposition, especially for the textile programs. Various government scholarships are available for eligible students, including those under the Rajasthan state scheme. The college also has TFWS (Tuition Fee Waiver Scheme) seats. The affordability makes the risk-reward calculation very different here than at a high-fee private institute.

Admissions: Eligibility, Cutoffs & Selection Process

Admission to the B.Tech programs is primarily through two channels: the national JEE Main exam and the state-level Rajasthan Engineering Admission Process (REAP). Seats are filled based on merit through the centralized counseling for these exams. The college’s official admission portal would have the latest timelines, but historically, REAP registrations open around May-July.

Cutoff ranks aren’t publicly detailed in a consistent way, but as a government college with a strong textile niche, it’s not typically among the most competitive for general engineering. Its吸引力 lies in its specialization. For leftover seats, the college does offer direct admissions at the institute level.

For M.Tech, a valid GATE score is required, with admissions processed through RTU's Centralized Admission for Master of Technology (CAM). Ph.D. admissions are based on the RTU-DAT (Doctoral Admission Test) followed by an interview.

Campus, Hostels and Student Life

The 41-acre campus is a mix of old and new. The library is a standout—a two-story building with over 18,000 books, RFID systems, and a dedicated section with 5G Wi-Fi for accessing e-content and preparing for exams like GATE. It’s frequently praised by students.

Beyond that, reports get patchy. Sports facilities exist for cricket, football, basketball, and more, but some students note the grounds aren’t well-maintained. There’s an annual sports week and various cultural fests that create a vibrant social atmosphere, which is a consistent positive in reviews.

The infrastructure critique is real. Some academic labs, particularly for non-textile departments, are described as having outdated or non-functional equipment. One review said computer labs had "very old software." Wi-Fi is campus-wide but its quality is inconsistent—5G in the library, but potentially 3G speeds in some departments. Hostel Wi-Fi availability is a point of conflicting reports.

Hostels themselves get mixed reviews. They’re separate for boys and girls, with a capacity of about 75 each. Some students call them spacious and clean; others describe the condition as "not good" or cite poor food quality in the mess. The on-campus canteen’s operational status is also questioned in some reviews. It’s a classic case of "your mileage may vary."

Student Reviews: What MLV Textile & Engineering College Alumni Really Think

Synthesizing the feedback from across platforms reveals a clear consensus.

The Good: For textile students, the reviews are overwhelmingly positive. They praise the industry-focused labs, the supportive faculty, the high placement rate, and the overall educational value for money. The library and campus social life are also big pluses. Many feel they got a solid, practical education that directly led to a job.

The Not-So-Good: For everyone else, frustration is common. The most frequent complaints are about negligible campus placements for Mechanical, Civil, and IT students. Infrastructure grievances pop up regularly—old buildings, unreliable Wi-Fi, and labs with broken equipment. Hostel and food quality are divisive topics, with a significant number of students choosing to live off-campus because of it.

The teaching quality is one area that gets consistent praise across branches, which suggests the core academic delivery is sound even where placement support falters.

Verdict: Is MLV Textile & Engineering College Worth It?

The answer depends entirely on your branch of study.

If you are certain you want a career in the textile or fashion industry, MLV Textile & Engineering College is an excellent, cost-effective choice. The low fees, specialized training, strong industry connections, and historically high placement rates for its core programs make it a smart bet. You’re getting a focused education that directly feeds into a specific job market.

However, if you are admitted to a non-textile engineering branch like Mechanical, Civil, Computer Science, or IT, you need to proceed with caution. The value proposition shifts dramatically. While the tuition is still very low, the lack of structured campus placement support means you’ll be largely on your own for internships and your first job. You’ll need to be proactive, build your own skills, and leverage external job portals. For a highly motivated, self-directed student who wants a low-cost degree, it could work. For someone relying on the college to open doors, it’s a risky path.

In short, this isn’t a general-purpose engineering college. It’s a specialist textile institute that also runs some other engineering programs. Choose it for its strength, not for its breadth.
