What can be said about ANM fees across India
There is no responsible single price for Auxiliary Nursing Midwifery (ANM) that applies to every Indian institution. Tuition, examination and registration charges, hostel and meals, uniforms, books, transport to clinical placements and refundable deposits are set by different institutions and authorities. They also belong to different admission years. Compare a full written cost schedule for the exact school and batch rather than applying an online course average to your budget.
The sources reviewed here do not establish a current, comparable national fee range. The course record contains an average and minimum/maximum aggregates, but without a defined institution list, academic year, included components or collection method those aggregates cannot be presented as the amount a new student will pay. They should not override a prospectus. The useful official comparison available is narrower: Goa’s government Institute of Nursing Education prospectus for 2025-26 says tuition is free at that institute, while listing several separate charges. This is a dated example, not a promise about a later Goa intake or any other college.
A dated Goa government-institute example
The Institute of Nursing Education, Bambolim, Goa, states in its 2025-26 ANM prospectus that tuition is free throughout the programme. It separately lists an admission fee of ₹100, a library fee of ₹100 and a laboratory fee of ₹100. Those three listed admission charges total ₹300, calculated by adding the three amounts in the prospectus. That sum is not a complete course cost.
The same prospectus says that enrolment, examination and registration fees are payable as per the Goa Nursing Council. It does not give a fixed amount for those charges in the fee paragraph, so applicants should request the applicable schedule. The prospectus also requires students to pay for two uniform sets and buy books, and mentions Student Nurses’ Association subscriptions that are subject to change. These are separate from the stated tuition and ₹300 of listed admission/library/lab fees. A reader should not convert “tuition is free” into “the course has no costs.”
For accommodation, the 2025-26 Goa prospectus says hostel accommodation is subject to availability and institutional discretion. It estimates mess fees at approximately ₹2,626 per month, described as all-inclusive, and says students opting for a hostel pay the first six-month term in advance, followed by later terms. The figure is an estimate in that prospectus, not a guaranteed hostel bill, an academic-year total or proof that a bed will be available. Ask whether the amount has been revised, what the institute includes in “all-inclusive,” when payment is due and what happens to any deposit if accommodation is not allotted.
The Goa example also has a labour-market consequence for budgeting: its 2025-26 prospectus includes a post-course service bond condition for the institute. That is not a tuition fee, but it can affect a student’s ability to plan their location and employment after completion. Read the bond separately from fees and obtain the current version before signing. The institute’s historical prospectus should not be treated as a current offer.
Build the full cost before accepting a seat
Ask the institution for a signed or official year-wise schedule showing tuition; admission and institutional charges; council enrolment, examination and registration fees; hostel and mess; uniforms and protective clothing; books and practical records; travel or accommodation during clinical rotations; and refundable deposits. Separate one-time charges from recurring payments. Ask which items change by category, which are optional, and which are due before classes begin. If a fee is shown only as “as per council,” request the responsible council’s current circular rather than inserting an estimate from another programme.
Work out scenarios that match your living arrangement. A day scholar may still need transport for hospital, community-centre or sub-centre placements. A hostel student should budget for the stated hostel term structure, not just a monthly amount multiplied by the academic calendar. If an institution lists a scholarship, fee waiver or reserved-category concession, check the eligibility, certificate deadline, renewal rule and whether it reduces tuition, hostel or both. Do not deduct an award from your budget until the authority confirms that it applies to your seat.
Before paying, confirm the refund and withdrawal rules in writing. Check whether application fees, deposits, hostel advance and tuition have separate refund policies. Preserve the prospectus version, admission offer, payment receipts and any later corrigendum. A verbal estimate from a counsellor or agent is difficult to compare and may omit recurring charges.
Compare like with like
Two ANM offers are comparable only when they include the same period and cost components. A government institute with free tuition may still have council, uniform, book, travel and residential costs. A private institution’s advertised annual fee may include hostel or may exclude examination and clinical charges. Ask both institutions for the amount payable at admission, the amount due later, what is refundable and which expenses are paid directly to an external council.
Keep fee claims tied to the named prospectus and year. Goa’s 2025-26 schedule is a transparent example of how tuition and other charges can differ, but it does not show the current price at Goa for 2026-27 and says nothing about a Manipur or other state school. Current-cycle costs require a current official fee notice. When none is available, report the amount as unknown and contact the institute; do not fill the gap with a national average or a fee from another nursing qualification.
