The RCI framework baseline
For the BASLP programme framework effective from academic session 2024-25, RCI specifies a pass in the 10+2 examination or an equivalent examination, a minimum of 50% marks, and study of any two or more subjects in the science stream. The RCI framework states that relaxation in qualifying marks follows the rules of the relevant university, state, Union Territory or Central Government. It does not make one institution's published subject combination a universal rule for every BASLP seat in India.
Applicants should check four separate questions in the current prospectus: which school-leaving boards are accepted as equivalent; what minimum overall or subject-wise marks apply; which science subjects must appear in the qualifying examination; and how reservation or other category rules affect the threshold. A page may describe a general institutional baseline while its current prospectus adds a subject requirement, category restriction or selection condition. If those sources disagree, contact the admissions office and keep the written response for the relevant intake.
Subject combinations and local conditions
“Science subjects” can be applied differently by institutions. RCI's national framework says any two or more subjects in the science stream; an institution can publish a narrower requirement for its own admissions. NISH's public BASLP page, for example, specifies Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics or Biology and states 50% in those subjects, with a pass threshold described for SC/ST candidates and persons with disabilities. Its page also limits its merit-seat category to Indian citizens of Kerala origin. Those are NISH-specific published conditions, not a national BASLP rule. Applicants should read the prospectus for the year they intend to join and distinguish merit, management, NRI, sponsored, foreign and reserved seats where the institution offers them.
Do not infer that Biology is mandatory everywhere, that Mathematics is accepted everywhere, or that a particular board's subject label automatically meets an institution's definition. Ask the institution to confirm eligibility using the exact subjects and board on your marksheet. If an equivalent qualification was completed outside India, check the university's equivalency process. The RCI framework separately states that foreign applicants should obtain an equivalency certificate from the Association of Indian Universities.
Marks, categories and disability assessment
The RCI baseline is at least 50%, but the framework delegates relaxation to the relevant government or university rules. It is therefore unsafe to state a single all-India relaxed percentage without a specific authority and admission cycle. Check whether the threshold is calculated on aggregate marks, science subjects, or particular subjects; the institution's wording controls its own selection process. Also confirm whether a relaxation applies to the chosen seat category and whether any supporting certificate must be valid by a stated date.
For candidates with disabilities, the 2024-25 RCI framework describes assessment by a committee that can include expertise in speech-language pathology, audiology, clinical psychology, paediatrics and otolaryngology. It also refers generally to the National Medical Commission guidance for admission under the disability category. This is not a basis for an applicant to self-exclude or to assume eligibility from a diagnosis alone. Contact the admissions office early to learn the current process, documents, assessment arrangements and any university-specific requirements.
Age limits and entrance examinations
The retrieved national RCI eligibility section does not set a universal BASLP upper-age limit or require NEET. Individual universities or institutes may publish an age condition or an entrance and selection process for a particular intake. Verify such a condition in the current prospectus, official admission notice or an authoritative written reply. Do not rely on old coaching pages, general medical-admission lists or model question papers to infer a present BASLP selection route.
AIISH's admissions portal currently links a 2026-27 prospectus and past BASLP question papers for PCM and PCB streams. Those links show that the institute publishes its own material; they do not by themselves confirm which entrance test, if any, is used for BASLP in the current cycle, how it is weighted, or what marks are required. The institute's 2026-27 prospectus link was visible, but its PDF could not be retrieved in this research pass. Candidates applying to AIISH should open the current prospectus and admission notices directly and confirm any unresolved point with the institute.
A practical eligibility check
Before paying an application fee, write down your board, exact subject names, marks and category. Compare them with the current prospectus for the campus and course, then confirm equivalence and category rules with the institution if the wording is unclear. Check that the exact campus and BASLP programme have RCI recognition for your admission session; the RCI advises candidates to enroll only in recognized institutions. Save the current approval evidence and prospectus with your application records. Eligibility is a threshold check; it does not guarantee a seat, which may depend on merit, entrance performance, counselling or other published selection conditions.
