There is no single national BASLP fee
BASLP tuition is set by the institution and can differ by campus, university, academic session, seat category and student status. The official sources reviewed for this guide do not establish one current all-India fee or a reliable national average. Do not use an aggregated course-page fee, an old fee table or a coaching-site estimate as the amount you will pay. Start with the official prospectus and fee notice for the exact campus and intake, and ask the admissions office to confirm any amount that is not clearly labelled.
The National Institute of Speech and Hearing (NISH), for example, states on its BASLP programme page that applicants should refer to the prospectus for fees and further details. This is a useful reminder that a programme page may describe the course but leave the current fee schedule elsewhere. NISH-specific information cannot be generalized to AIISH, a state university, a private college or another campus. Use the institution's current prospectus, admission portal and official fee circular together, and check their academic-year labels.
Separate tuition from other charges
Ask for an itemised amount rather than one unexplained total. A fee schedule may separate tuition, admission or registration charges, university examination fees, laboratory or clinical charges, caution deposits, library access, hostel and mess, insurance, transport and other services. Some items are one-time, some recur each semester or year, and some are refundable. Keep each line in its original basis. A first-semester payment is not an annual tuition figure, and a total-course estimate is not comparable with a yearly charge unless both periods and included items are shown.
For a four-year programme, build a year-by-year estimate using only amounts the institution actually publishes. Include the eight-semester structure under the RCI framework effective from 2024-25, while checking how the campus handles the internship year, examination registration and any repeat or extension charges. The RCI framework places a year of clinical internship after semester six; it does not say whether every institution bills internship in the same way. Ask whether internship tuition continues, whether external placements create travel or accommodation costs, and whether students pay separately for clinical materials.
Ask what can change after admission
Confirm which charges are fixed for your admitted cohort and which can rise under university rules. Ask whether the prospectus amount is per semester, per academic year, or for all four years, and whether it includes taxes or mandatory university charges. If the institution quotes a “package,” request a breakdown. Check whether scholarship or fee concessions apply to your category, how they are renewed, and whether a scholarship is credited before or after fee payment. For any deposit, ask when it is refunded and what deductions are allowed.
The admission category can change the amount. NISH's public course description distinguishes merit and second-merit seats and separately notes an NRI seat within its listed arrangement. That page is institution-specific and seat rules can change; it does not establish prices for those categories. Applicants should find the fee line corresponding to the actual seat they have been offered, rather than copy a fee from a general programme page or another category. If the notice lists a different amount for management, NRI, sponsored, foreign or state-quota seats, compare like with like and verify the applicable category in writing.
Account for the cost of clinical training
The course includes theory, practical and clinical work. Students may need regular travel to clinics or affiliated hospitals, printed assessment materials, basic stationery, internet access and accommodation near a placement. These are not universal fixed fees, and the sources reviewed do not support assigning a national price to them. Ask the programme coordinator which items are provided, which are supplied by students, whether placements are on campus or off campus, and whether travel support is available. Where the institution requires clinical attire, vaccination documentation or other preparation, confirm the current requirements and costs before enrolment.
Compare the expected schedule as well as the fee. An institution with an external placement can create costs that do not appear in tuition; a hostel quote may exclude mess, utilities or summer stays. The internship period can also affect housing and travel arrangements. Request the academic calendar and placement plan before building a household budget. If the course requires a longer completion period because of a repeat examination or interrupted placement, check the applicable extension charges rather than assuming the published four-year total remains unchanged.
A simple comparison worksheet
For each institution, record the campus and academic session, seat category, one-time charges, semester or annual tuition, examination and clinical charges, hostel and mess, deposits, scholarship conditions and any placement-related travel. Mark the source document and date beside each amount. Add only charges that are actually documented; keep unknown amounts marked “not stated” and ask the institution. Do not convert a semester fee into an annual amount unless the schedule confirms the same amount is charged in both semesters. Do not convert total-course fees into a first-year figure without the institution's stated payment plan.
Finally, verify RCI recognition for the exact BASLP programme and session through the RCI recognized-institutions guidance and current approved list or approval order. Recognition is a separate decision from affordability, but it belongs in the same comparison because an unusually low advertised amount does not compensate for unclear professional recognition. RCI advises candidates to seek admission only in recognized institutions. Keep the prospectus, fee notice, admission offer and payment receipt together so that later revisions can be checked against what applied to your cohort.
