Begin with the official intake notice
BOT admission is organised by the university or institution offering the programme. The application route, subjects, entrance test, merit formula, counselling, documents and deadline must be confirmed for the exact campus and cohort. Research for this guide did not establish one entrance exam that applies to every Bachelor of Occupational Therapy programme in India. Do not infer a national exam from a coaching page, one college’s prospectus or the abbreviation BOT appearing beside another allied-health course.
Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) provides a concrete institution-specific example. Its MCHP BOT page describes an online application, upload of 10+2 marks, the Manipal Entrance Test (MET), merit-list release, physical or online counselling and admission formalities. The page says MET contributes 50% of merit weight and 10+2 marks contribute 50%. It also warns that eligibility and admission may change under National Commission for Allied and Healthcare Professions directions. This is not a universal process or guaranteed current formula; reopen the live notice for the intake you intend to join.
Check eligibility and selection as separate stages
First check whether your board, subjects and marks satisfy the current eligibility criteria. For MAHE Manipal, the course page names Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English and states a minimum 50% aggregate in PCB for Indian-board applicants. Its merit-weighting line refers to 10+2 marks in Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Maths and English. Because eligibility and scoring text are not identical, ask MAHE how the weighting component is calculated for your applicant category and intake. Do not use a score formula from another university.
Then check how eligible candidates are ranked. If an entrance test is required, confirm registration, subjects, test date, format, location or remote rules, identification documents, permitted materials and result validity from the official test portal. If school marks contribute to merit, identify the exact subjects and calculation method. Look for tie-breaking rules, category lists, seat matrix, waitlist movement and counselling instructions. Meeting a minimum percentage is not the same as receiving a competitive rank or an offer.
A practical application sequence
- Verify the full programme title, campus, awarding institution and intake year. Save the dated prospectus and current official application link.
- Compare your subjects and marks with eligibility. Ask in writing about board equivalence, pending results, improvement attempts, category documents or any unusual subject combination.
- Create an account on the institution’s official portal. Use your legal name and contact details consistently with your identity and academic documents.
- Complete the form carefully. Enter examination subjects and marks exactly as shown on official records, select the correct course and campus, and follow the portal’s rules for uploading documents and paying the application fee.
- If the process includes an entrance test, complete its separate registration steps and keep the confirmation, test instructions and score record.
- Monitor the official admissions page and email for correction windows, merit lists, counselling dates and document checks. Do not rely on unofficial groups for a deadline or allotment.
- Before accepting a seat, verify the offer letter, programme regulations, duration, internship, total fees, refund rules and current recognition information for your batch.
The exact documents vary. The current notice may ask for qualifying-exam marksheets, identity proof, photographs, category or domicile evidence and equivalence documents. Do not assume every item is required, and do not send sensitive records to unofficial email addresses. If your final result is pending, check whether provisional application is allowed and the last date for producing the marksheet. Keep copies of the submitted form, fee receipt, correspondence and notices that apply to your application.
Entrance test, merit list and counselling
For MAHE’s published BOT information, MET and 10+2 marks each account for half of the merit weighting. The same programme page says the admissions path includes an application, marksheet upload, MET, merit list, counselling and admission formalities. Because the page includes 2026 fee information and a 2027 MET statement, applicants should check which year’s rules and dates currently apply. No deadline or cutoff should be inferred from that page without verifying the active cycle.
During counselling, read the seat offer closely. Confirm that the campus, award and intake match your choice, and check the deposit amount, due date and refund conditions. Ask whether an allotment is provisional pending original documents or final board results. Understand the process for accepting, declining or withdrawing a seat and whether a later counselling round affects your current offer. A test score, call or unofficial selection message is not an admission until the institution confirms the offer through its official channel.
Avoid stale information and admission fraud
Application calendars can change. A previous year’s test date, cutoff, fee, eligibility rule or correction window is historical information, even if it remains visible in a search result. Check the live institution portal and any formal update. Save the exact notice version and ask the admissions office which document controls if the prospectus and portal conflict. An answer tied to your specific board, category and course is more useful than a generic statement from a call centre.
Use only official payment links and verified contact details. Be cautious of anyone promising a guaranteed BOT seat, asking for payment to a personal account or offering to change your rank. Before paying a non-refundable amount, confirm the fee, refund schedule, recognition information and internship arrangement from the institution’s own documents. Admission and professional registration are separate issues; an offer to study does not itself settle future eligibility to practise. Check current regulator guidance for the programme and entering cohort.
