CA course fees: registration, examination and preparation costs
The ICAI Chartered Accountancy pathway does not have a single college tuition price. Candidates may pay course-registration charges at different levels, examination-form fees for each attempt and separate costs for coaching, travel, accommodation or study support. Amounts depend on route, group selection, exam centre, term and any applicable concession. Keep these categories separate when planning.
Course registration and exam forms are different
ICAI’s course FAQ lists registration charges by Foundation, Intermediate and Final stage. A Foundation entrant registers at that level and later registers for Intermediate; an eligible Direct Entry candidate begins at Intermediate. These are course-registration fees, not charges for each examination form or for private coaching. Because the FAQ is dated, verify the current amount and payment instructions in ICAI’s Self Service Portal before submitting payment. ICAI course FAQ.
Examination-form fees are paid for a specific attempt. The official ICAI September/November 2026 fee chart listed the following India-centre amounts: Foundation ₹1,500; Intermediate both groups ₹2,700; and Final both groups ₹3,300. Single-group amounts and overseas-centre charges differ, and the notice sets a separate late fee. These are dated exam-entry prices for the named cycle, not a total course budget, registration fees, coaching fees or future-attempt prices. ICAI September/November 2026 fee chart.
The application period belongs to that term. A past fee chart remains a useful historical example after its form window closes, but it does not prove a new examination form is open. For a later attempt, use the later ICAI notice and confirm the centre, group and fee before paying.
Coaching, training and optional expenses
Private coaching prices vary by provider, city, subject, group, mode and access period. Study materials, test series, internet, travel and accommodation may add costs. Compare offers by subjects covered, teacher access, mock tests, validity and refund terms rather than relying on a single headline number. Coaching is optional and does not replace ICAI registration or exams.
Practical training is a prescribed part of the qualification, but do not treat its stipend as a guaranteed fee offset. ICAI’s July 2026 announcement said that in-principle approval had been given to proposed stipend rates and that a draft regulatory amendment was published for comments. That notice describes a proposal, not an enacted rate; this guide does not quote a stipend amount. Check the current rules that govern your training start. ICAI July 2026 announcement.
ICAI states that no separate fee is payable for the SPOM modules in its Digital Learning Campus notice. This narrow statement does not mean every training component, exam, coaching service or expense is free. Verify charges in the official portal. ICAI SPOM notice.
Make a route-specific budget
Build separate lines for the route you will follow. A Foundation candidate should account for the Foundation registration and form, later Intermediate registration and forms, training and course requirements, and later Final registration and forms. A Direct Entry candidate starts at Intermediate but must still budget for applicable later stages. Include possible repeat attempts without assuming a fixed number. Keep coaching as an optional separate line.
If you may qualify for a fee concession, check the current official notice for geography, category, date and documentation. A historical concession schedule cannot be generalized to all applicants. Likewise, an overseas exam-centre price is not interchangeable with an Indian-centre fee and may be denominated in another currency.
Before payment, confirm the course level, route, amount, currency, deadline and receipt in ICAI’s Self Service Portal. Avoid an “all-in CA fee” unless it states the assumed route, attempts, location, exam groups and optional services. A staged budget with dated official charges is clearer and more honest than one unqualified total.
Budget only what the source supports
A sensible estimate can be assembled from verified payments rather than an advertised course-total claim. Record each ICAI registration amount, each exam form and group, any late fee actually charged, training or course fee required for the candidate’s stage, and optional coaching separately. Keep the receipt date and attempt beside each amount. This makes it possible to update one line when ICAI revises a schedule without silently changing the rest of the estimate.
Do not multiply one examination fee by a guessed number of attempts and call it the candidate’s total cost. Attempts vary, students may sit one group at a time, and location can change charges. Likewise, a coaching package may cover selected papers or a limited period. Explain assumptions whenever comparing options. If the source does not identify a charge or its scope, mark it unknown rather than filling the gap with a national average.
The date and unit matter for every comparison. An amount quoted for an exam form should be labelled as an exam fee, not a course tuition price. A registration fee applies to a course level and may be paid at a different point in a student’s route. An optional class package reflects a provider’s scope and service period. Presenting them in separate rows lets a reader compare like with like and prevents a one-term example from sounding like a guaranteed lifetime cost.
