As of 27 October 2026, BITS Pilani’s First Degree admission page says the 2027-2028 admission cycle for B.E., M.Sc. and B.Pharm. will open in December 2026, tentatively. That is the only specific 2027-28 timing statement used here. “Tentatively” matters: the institute has not yet posted the application opening day, form deadline, exam dates, eligibility-year rule, test pattern, preference form window, admission iterations, fee schedule or final programme matrix for this cycle in the reviewed material. Do not use a date copied from the 2026 calendar as a 2027 deadline. When the page changes from a tentative notice to a detailed schedule, follow the dated notice and brochure then in force.
The same official page says the 2026-27 First Degree cycle closed on 1 September 2026. BITSAT-2026 and its dates therefore belong to the preceding admission year. The 2026 brochure remains helpful for understanding the process, but it is not the 2027 application rulebook. The next practical step is to monitor the official First Degree admissions page and download the new brochure after it is posted. A page announcing an expected December opening does not mean that registration is already open or that the final test schedule has been fixed.
BITSAT is BITS Pilani’s computer-based admission test for Integrated First Degree programmes. In its 2026 brochure, BITS used the test for listed B.E., B.Pharm. and four-year integrated M.Sc. options at the Pilani, K K Birla Goa and Hyderabad campuses. Programme availability varied by campus; a programme name on one campus table did not imply that every campus offered it. The 2027-28 brochure and choice form will determine which programmes and seats are actually available next year. Check the exact campus and degree names before preparing a preference list.
BITS also describes other admission pathways, including Direct Admission for Board Toppers and an International Student Admission scheme. These have their own eligibility, application and proof requirements and should not be treated as automatic extensions of the standard BITSAT application. The Dubai campus and international collaborative programmes also have distinct campus or partner conditions. If you intend to use a non-BITSAT route, open the current route-specific notice instead of applying rules from the general BITSAT brochure.
The 2026 brochure also described a later option for eligible M.Sc. entrants to compete for a dual degree in engineering after first year, based on performance at BITS. That was an internal competitive process, not a second degree guaranteed at admission. It is useful background for understanding how programme pathways may work, but its exact eligibility and available branches must be checked in the current academic rules and future brochure.
The latest complete examination brochure available in the sources reviewed is BITSAT-2026 for the 2026-27 academic year. It described a three-hour computer-based test with 130 main multiple-choice questions, three marks for a correct answer, a one-mark deduction for an incorrect answer and no deduction for an unanswered question. The paper included Physics, Chemistry, English proficiency, Logical Reasoning and a Mathematics or Biology part. The 2026 brochure also offered up to 12 additional questions only after the candidate had attempted all 130 main questions; choosing those additional questions removed the ability to revisit the earlier answers. Every one of these details is labelled as 2026 evidence. The 2027-28 format is not confirmed until BITS publishes its next brochure.
This historical pattern can help a student understand the nature of the exam and practise disciplined pacing, but it should not determine the final study plan. Compare the eventual 2027 syllabus with the Class XII syllabus and use the official subject list, not a coaching-site summary, to identify changes. The 2026 brochure’s session structure and application windows are likewise prior-cycle details. Do not assume the same number of attempts, exam sessions, extra-question rule, marking scheme or subjects will continue. The official brochure and FAQ are the primary sources for those decisions; an old test-prep article is not evidence of a new rule.
BITSAT eligibility has two separate checks: permission to sit the test and eligibility to seek a particular degree. For BITSAT-2026, the official criteria included subject combinations and minimum board marks. The published 2026 thresholds included 75% aggregate in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics for most B.E./M.Sc. options, or in Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Mathematics for specified B.Pharm. and Environmental and Sustainability Engineering routes, plus at least 60% in each required subject. The 2026 rule also specified which school-completion years could apply. Those years and thresholds are historical 2026 conditions, not a promise about 2027 eligibility.
Before applying, check the 2027-28 subject list, aggregate calculation, theory/practical treatment, improvement-exam rules, result-submission deadline and any restrictions on current BITS students. Confirm how your board marks are calculated against the exact definitions. A candidate with a strong test score can still be ineligible for a degree if board requirements are not met. Conversely, qualifying for the exam does not guarantee a seat. Keep school marksheets, identity records and any equivalence documents ready, but upload only the documents required by the new application. The official eligibility page currently describes the prior cycle and should be reread when it is updated for 2027.
BITS publishes programme-wise cutoff scores after an admission cycle. These values are admission outcomes tied to the campus, degree, applicant choices, seat availability and year; they are not a single qualifying score that guarantees admission. The official 2026-27 cutoff table, for example, listed 308 out of 390 for Pilani B.E. Computer Science and lower values for several other programmes. That is a completed-cycle example only. It does not predict a 2027 cutoff, and another campus or degree has a different row. Compare only the same programme, campus and published admission year.
A candidate generally completes the test and then submits a separate admission-preference form with programme choices and required Class XII information, according to that cycle’s instructions. BITS announces admit and wait lists through iterations and specifies a payment deadline for an offer. The 2026 schedule included multiple iterations; future iteration count and dates are not yet established. A wait-list position is not an offer until the institute issues an allotment. Follow the new notice for how to order choices, submit marks, accept an offer, pay the amount due or withdraw. Never use a third-party “expected cutoff” as a substitute for the official list.
The BITS admissions site posts fee schedules separately from the test brochure. The 2026-27 fee page is evidence for that academic year only; 2027-28 tuition, semester charges, hostel costs, deposits, payment deadlines and refund rules were not yet available in the sources reviewed on 27 October 2026. Budget by campus and year using the future official schedule, and distinguish recurring tuition from one-time deposits, hostel and other charges. Do not treat a scholarship or fee concession as automatic unless the current notice confirms eligibility and application steps.
While waiting for the 2027 application to open, students can review their Class XII subject and board records, compare the official BITSAT syllabus with what they are studying, and practise a timed mixed-subject test using verified 2026 materials as a provisional format. Keep a list of campuses and programmes they would actually accept, but do not finalize it until the 2027 course table and admission preferences are published. Track the application opening notice and subscribe to no unofficial link that asks for credentials or payment.
A compact check before acting is: (1) confirm the new application is open on the official BITS site; (2) download the 2027-28 brochure; (3) verify subject, board-year and marks conditions; (4) check programme availability by campus; (5) note each real deadline from the current schedule; and (6) review the current fee and offer-acceptance instructions. As of this article’s date, December 2026 is tentative and the rest of the 2027-28 calendar remains unannounced.

BITSAT-2026, AY 2026-27: +3 marks for a correct answer, -1 for an incorrect answer and 0 for an unanswered question. For candidates who appeared in both sessions, the higher of the two scores was considered for First Degree admission. Historical 2026 evidence; no 2027 rule is asserted.
