NATA does not run a single national B.Arch seat allotment
NATA is an aptitude test. The 2026 material reviewed does not establish a Council of Architecture central counselling service that allocates every B.Arch seat to NATA candidates. Admission is handled by the relevant State, Union Territory or institution. The responsible authority publishes the application route, eligibility checks, merit formula, seat information, reservation rules, choice process, deadlines and reporting instructions. A candidate must identify that authority after checking that the target programme accepts NATA.
This matters because a NATA scorecard is not an allotment letter. Appearing for or qualifying in the test does not complete the B.Arch admission application. A student may need to submit a separate state or institutional application, upload academic records, register for counselling, fill choices, verify documents, pay a fee and report to the allotted institution. The actual steps depend on the current prospectus and notices.
Find the authority for each target programme
Start with the exact college, campus and B.Arch programme. Check the institution’s current admission page and the applicable state or UT prospectus. Confirm which authority conducts selection and which qualifying test it accepts. The Council of Architecture’s 2026-27 approved undergraduate list can help verify approval status, but it does not by itself prove the institution’s admission route or whether it accepts NATA in a particular year.
Some institutions may admit through a state process, some may publish their own process, and some may accept a different architecture aptitude-test route. Do not assume that every approved architecture college participates in one counselling system. Nor should a student infer that NATA acceptance means the college uses JEE Main or JoSAA. JEE Main Paper 2A is a separate examination administered by NTA; the admission authority specifies how it is used for its own programmes.
When one student is applying across several states or institutions, make a separate row for each route. Record the authority, official portal, programme name, application period, accepted test, eligibility, merit formula, reservation or domicile conditions, required documents and contact channel. This prevents a deadline from one process being mistaken for another.
What a counselling notice should answer
Before registration, read the prospectus and later notices for the relevant intake. Confirm whether the authority requires a NATA score, qualifying-examination marks or both; how it creates the merit list; what category and domicile rules apply; and whether the candidate must also meet a minimum academic subject and aggregate rule. Check how choices are submitted and whether the candidate must lock them. Note document-verification steps, fee payment, allotment response, reporting and any upgrade or withdrawal process.
Do not infer a process detail that the notice does not state. A test result’s validity is not necessarily the same as an authority’s application window. A state application deadline may fall before or after an exam date, and a later notice can amend it. An allotment round may have its own eligibility and payment deadline. Save the dated official notice and check for updates before each action.
If the prospectus is unclear, contact the authority that conducts admission. Ask a precise question that includes the programme, intake, qualification and test route. Keep the response for your records. A college helpline may clarify institution-specific requirements, but it cannot necessarily amend a state authority’s published rule.
Kerala CEE 2026: an example, not a national template
The KEAM 2026 prospectus illustrates a state-managed B.Arch route. It assigned equal weightage to NATA score and grade or marks in the qualifying examination for its B.Arch merit calculation. CEE Kerala also issued a separate 2026 notice requiring the candidate to appear for and qualify in NATA by 30 June 2026. These are Kerala-specific historical details; the stated deadline has passed and should not be used for a later intake.
The example shows why candidates need both the test brochure and the admission prospectus. The NATA brochure explained the exam, while CEE Kerala’s prospectus and notice explained the state application and merit conditions. Equal weightage in this one state does not imply an equal-weight formula elsewhere. A different authority may calculate merit differently or use another accepted test. Check the current notice for your own jurisdiction.
A practical counselling checklist
Create a timeline with separate dates for exam registration, correction, admit card, test, scorecard, state application, document verification, choice filling, allotment, fee payment and reporting. Mark each date with its official source and the date that source was checked. Where a date is not announced, write “not announced” instead of estimating it.
Prepare a document folder containing the NATA scorecard, application confirmation, qualifying-examination marksheets, identity records and any category, domicile or equivalence documents requested by the authority. The exact list varies, so use the current prospectus. Keep original documents safe and follow the authority’s instructions about uploads or in-person verification.
When comparing an allotment or closing rank, make sure it refers to the same year, programme, campus, category, quota and round. A NATA percentile is not a counselling rank, and neither is a seat guarantee. If you receive an allotment, read the response deadline and conditions carefully; missing a payment or reporting requirement can affect the seat under that authority’s rules.
Sources and scope
The KEAM 2026 prospectus and CEE Kerala NATA notice support the named state example. The CoA approved UG institution list for 2026-27 is an approval lookup, not a counselling roster. The JEE Main 2026 information bulletin supports the distinction between Paper 2A and NATA. Sources were checked on 28 October 2026. This is a process guide; it does not claim that a 2027 counselling schedule has been announced.
