NEET-PG counselling starts after the result, but it is a separate process
NEET-PG gives you an examination result; it does not itself allot a postgraduate seat. The designated counselling authority manages registration, seat choices, allotment and reporting for its seat pool. NBEMS’s 2025 bulletin says counselling instructions and seat availability are notified by the counselling authority. It also identifies MCC for specified All India Quota and central/deemed seat pools, while state authorities manage their own processes. The NBEMS NEET-PG 2025 Information Bulletin is the dated reference for that distinction.
For 2027 planning, no active NEET-PG cycle or 2027 counselling schedule was confirmed in the prepared preflight or official sources reviewed here. MCC’s PG Medical Counselling page currently displays 2026 session information, and the opened MCC 2026 PG counselling bulletin is explicitly marked “DRAFT”. It is useful for understanding the proposed process steps, not as final 2026 instructions or as a 2027 calendar. Check the final notice and corrigenda before relying on a rule.
Identify the seat pool and authority first
Do not assume that one counselling portal covers every postgraduate seat you might consider. The 2025 NBEMS bulletin describes NEET-PG as the qualifying examination across several admission routes, but the counselling authority depends on the seat type. MCC handles the pools specified in its current bulletin. State counselling authorities publish their own state-quota procedures, eligibility rules, merit lists, reservation policies, documents and dates. Some institutes or service routes may have additional requirements. A candidate considering more than one route should create a separate checklist for each.
Before registration opens, write down the institutions and seat types you would realistically accept. For each, verify which authority conducts counselling, whether you meet its eligibility conditions, what category or domicile evidence is needed, and where its official notices are published. The current MCC page is an entry point for MCC processes; it does not replace a state authority’s portal. If two processes overlap, maintain separate calendars and confirm whether any participation, resignation or seat-holding rule affects the other route.
How the MCC sequence works in the 2026 draft
The 2026 MCC draft bulletin lays out a sequence that helps explain what to watch for. Candidates register and complete any required registration-fee or refundable security-deposit payment, fill and lock choices, receive an allotment result, and then complete the required online or physical reporting steps. The draft describes separate rounds, fresh choice filling in later rounds, document verification and reporting at the allotted institution. These are process examples from a draft, so the final bulletin for the applicable session controls the operative sequence, fees and consequences.
Choice filling is more than ranking colleges by reputation. Enter only courses and institutions you would be prepared to join, and arrange them in your actual preference order. Read the rules for locking choices and check the saved confirmation before the window closes. The MCC draft explains “freeze” as retaining an allotted seat without seeking an upgrade and “float” as indicating willingness for upgradation. The consequences can differ by round, resignation window and final rules; check the current bulletin before selecting an option. A choice that looks reversible in one round may become binding or affect later participation in another.
After allotment, read the result notice and the institute’s joining instructions together. A portal result may be followed by online document verification, physical reporting, payment of institute fees, or more than one of those steps. Keep original certificates available and save payment and reporting acknowledgements. The 2026 draft notes that original documents are required during physical reporting. Confirm the current list, reporting location, deadline and any institute-specific instructions from the notice that governs your allotment.
Track round changes and protect your options
Counselling is a sequence of deadlines, not one event. Make a table with round, authority, registration status, payment, choice filling and locking, result, reporting, upgrade decision, resignation rule and source URL. Add a reminder before each portal closes and a second reminder on the last day. A missed registration or choice-locking deadline may not be repairable after the portal closes. The official schedule can change through notices, so check for updates before acting.
The 2026 MCC draft shows that rounds may have different registration and choice rules. For example, it describes fresh registration and fresh choice filling for some later stages, as well as different consequences for non-joining, resignation and security-deposit forfeiture. Do not carry a rule from Round 1 into Round 2, Round 3 or a stray vacancy round without checking the current scheme. If you have a seat and want to participate elsewhere, verify the exact exit or upgrade route before submitting a resignation or accepting another allotment.
Keep a copy of each choice list and result, note the round and quota beside it, and save any communication from the counselling authority. If a detail in the result is inconsistent with your documents, use the official helpdesk or portal promptly. A coaching group or candidate forum can help you spot a question, but the authority’s notice determines the action and deadline.
What to do while the next schedule is unannounced
Use the time before a 2027 counselling bulletin to prepare rather than to guess dates. Organise your scorecard, admit card, degree and registration records, internship proof, category or domicile documents if applicable, and a list of seat pools you may enter. Check that names and numbers match. Prepare a draft preference list, but keep it separate from the final choice entry until you have reviewed the current seat matrix, eligibility conditions, fees and round rules.
When notices appear, verify the cycle and publication status of each document. Look for a final information bulletin, round schedule, seat matrix, registration instructions and any later corrigendum. The 2026 MCC page is a useful place to find MCC updates; state applicants must monitor the relevant state authority too. No 2027 schedule, fee, eligibility relaxation or choice rule was confirmed in the opened sources for this page. Use 2026 draft material only to understand the likely sequence, then follow the final notices that govern your own admission session.
