NEET-PG score use depends on the course and seat route
NEET-PG is used for a range of postgraduate medical admissions, but a qualifying score does not mean every college, course or seat is automatically open to every candidate. The NEET-PG 2025 NBEMS bulletin lists MD, MS and PG Diploma admissions, along with Post-MBBS DNB, Direct six-year DrNB and NBEMS Diploma routes. It also describes All India Quota, state quota, private and deemed institutions, and AFMS seats within its 2025 scope. The NBEMS NEET-PG 2025 Information Bulletin is the dated source for those routes.
The route matters because different authorities publish different seat matrices and candidate rules. MCC manages the seat pools assigned to it, including the pools described in its current counselling materials. State authorities manage their own state processes and may apply separate eligibility, domicile, category and document rules. The NBEMS bulletin also lists institutions whose MD/MS admissions are not under centralized NEET-PG admissions, including AIIMS institutions, PGIMER Chandigarh, JIPMER Puducherry, NIMHANS Bengaluru and SCTIMST. Check the applicable bulletin and authority before adding a college to your plan; an institution name alone does not tell you which admission route applies.
Two named examples from the 2026 MCC matrix
MCC’s final central internal quota seat matrix for PG Counselling 2026 (MD/MS) gives a dated sample of named options and their seat routes. The PDF identifies the institute type and quota as well as course and category, so these rows should be read with those qualifiers intact.
These are examples from the final 2026 matrix, not a complete directory of NEET-PG institutions or a 2027 seat promise. The category labels are reproduced from the matrix; candidates should read the full matrix notes and applicable eligibility rules before deciding whether a row is available to them. A single seat row is also not an admission guarantee: allotment depends on rank, category, choice order, eligibility and the rules for that round.
MCC’s PG Medical Counselling page links current notices and seat matrices. Use the final matrix for the counselling year you are applying in, and verify that the institute, course, quota and category remain in that version. A previous-year matrix is useful for learning how options are labelled, but it cannot establish that a course or seat will continue in the next admission session.
How to check whether a college is an option for you
For each institution you are considering, answer four questions before ranking it. First, is the course and seat type part of the NEET-PG route for that year, or does it use a different entrance/admission process? Second, which authority runs the counselling for that seat? Third, what category, domicile, institutional, service or other eligibility rule applies? Fourth, does the current matrix list the exact specialty, quota and category you need? If any answer is unclear, consult the official matrix and bulletin rather than assuming that a college’s general PG admissions page covers every seat.
Do not conflate accepting a NEET-PG result with being eligible for every quota. A candidate may qualify in the examination but still need a separate state merit-list registration, domicile proof, category certificate or institute-specific document. MCC and state portals may have separate calendars and forms. Keep one checklist for each route you intend to pursue, and note the authority’s name beside every deadline and document requirement.
When comparing named colleges, record the specialty and seat type with the institution. “Delhi college” is not precise enough to compare choices: an MD Paediatrics row under IP University Quota and an MD Anaesthesiology row under Delhi University Quota answer different questions. Check the category row, number of seats, counselling round, fee schedule and joining rules from the same cycle’s official documents. Do not use a category-specific seat count as the total intake for the course, and do not assume the same seat is open through another quota.
What a 2027 applicant should do next
No complete 2027 list of participating NEET-PG colleges, quota-specific seat matrix or counselling schedule was confirmed in the official material reviewed for this page. The 2026 examples are useful for understanding how a real matrix names institutions and routes; they are not a forecast. When the next counselling materials appear, check the final bulletin, current seat matrix and authority schedule together. Confirm whether a row is newly added, withdrawn, revised or limited to a particular candidate pool before locking your choices.
If you are shortlisting now, begin with the courses you would genuinely accept and identify the counselling authority for each. Keep the two 2026 examples above only as historical reference points. Replace them with current-cycle rows when the official matrix is published, then verify category eligibility, rank range, fees and reporting instructions from the current documents. This is more reliable than relying on a broad online list that omits quota and year labels.
