NEET {{current-year}} Guidelines: Dress Code, Rules and Instructions
Last updated: April 20, 2026
If you are a candidate, you need to know what you can and cannot carry into the examination center. The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) is finally scheduled for 13 September 2026, but students will only be allowed to write the exam after following the official instructions issued by the National Testing Agency (NTA).
The NTA has released new guidelines for NEET 2026. Admit cards have been issued with specific COVID-19 instructions and security measures. All students are strongly advised to carefully read the instructions printed on their admit card. This will help you understand what is allowed, particularly regarding your dress. It's also wise to wear clothes suitable for the local climate.
Students must go to the examination center according to the guidelines and fill out the declaration form carefully. While the general dress code remains unchanged, wearing a face mask and gloves is now mandatory for all candidates entering the center.
What you cannot take to the examination center: The NTA's instructions are clear. Candidates should note that heavy jewelry, watches, and other wearable devices are prohibited. Beyond customary headgear, you cannot bring:
- Instrument boxes, geometry boxes, or pencil boxes.
- Handbags, purses, or wallets.
- Any kind of paper, stationery, or textile material (printed or written).
- Eatables, whether loose or packed.
- Mobile phones, earphones, microphones, pagers, calculators, cameras, tape recorders, or any electronic gadget.
- Slide rules, log tables, or documents.
- Any type of watch, especially electronic watches with calculator features.
NEET 2026 Dress Code: What to wear and what not? All candidates must wear face masks and gloves. Examinees are permitted to wear traditional or customary clothes to the center. However, wearing light clothes is recommended for comfort.
Revised dress code for male and female candidates: According to the revised code, candidates (both men and women) will not be allowed to wear clothes with long sleeves. Footwear like slippers and sandals is allowed, but shoes are not permitted.
