The Army Institute of Fashion and Design (AIFD) in Bengaluru is a design college run by the Army Welfare Education Society and affiliated to Bengaluru North University. Its course list is not one single fashion degree. The 2026-27 prospectus confirms a three-year B.Sc. in Fashion and Apparel Design (FAD), a four-year Bachelor of Visual Arts (BVA) with Applied Arts or Graphic Design specialization, and one-year postgraduate diplomas in Fashion Design, Interior Design and E-Commerce. The institutional site also advertises a three-year Bachelor of Interior Design and Decoration (IDD), but that programme does not appear in the prospectus list titled “Academic Year 2026 Onwards” of recognized programmes. Treat the IDD listing as an official website offering that still needs confirmation in the current admissions notice before applying. The same source-year distinction applies to certificate courses shown elsewhere on the website; this guide does not assume every promotional listing has a current intake.
FAD is the institute’s apparel-focused undergraduate degree. The prospectus names fashion art and design, garment detailing, apparel computer-aided design, pattern making and garment construction, illustration, Indian textiles and costumes, textile testing, apparel production, visual merchandising, styling, logistics and export documentation among its core subjects. BVA is a separate four-year visual-arts degree, not a fashion-design title: its prospectus describes design fundamentals, visual communication, digital tools, typography, photography, web and UX/UI, motion graphics, art history and portfolio work. Compare the course outline and the kind of portfolio you want to build before choosing between them.
The three one-year PG diplomas are presented as distinct specialist options. Fashion Design includes illustration, fabric knowledge, pattern making, draping, CAD, merchandising, internship and a final collection. Interior Design covers space planning, furniture, materials, lighting, CAD/3D visualization, project management, internship and a final portfolio. E-Commerce covers online business, digital marketing, web basics, payment systems, analytics, legal and ethical issues, internship and a final case study. The site’s course page currently also names IDD as a three-year undergraduate programme; ask AIFD to confirm its current affiliation, intake and fee schedule if you are considering it, because it is absent from the 2026-27 prospectus’ recognized-programme list.

For the 2026-27 prospectus, the undergraduate FAD eligibility rule is 10+2 passed or appearing in any stream, or a three-year diploma treated as equivalent to 10+2, with at least 50% aggregate from a recognized board or institute. A candidate can therefore be eligible without a science stream, but the prospectus’ percentage and equivalence conditions still matter. The prospectus says selection is based on Class X and XII marks and includes an online interview covering general knowledge and a personal interview. It describes Defence wards and civilian applicants as eligible subject to the seat matrix. These are 2026-27 prospectus rules; the institute’s site is already advertising 2027-28 admissions, but no 2027-28 prospectus, eligibility revision or deadline was established in the sources reviewed on 1 November 2026.
The application instructions are not fully consistent across AIFD’s current admissions page and its 2026-27 PDF. The web page describes an online application portal, document upload, a non-refundable ₹1,000 registration payment, an online interview, a merit list, and ₹15,000 seat booking after selection. The prospectus flow also shows application through the institute website and an online interview, but its detailed “How to Apply” page instructs candidates to download and hand-fill a form, email a scanned copy with documents, and transfer the ₹1,000 fee. Do not send money or personal documents to an old account merely because it appears in a PDF. Open the current application portal from the institute’s admissions page or confirm the method with AIFD at [email protected] before applying. No application deadline is stated here because the source set does not establish a current 2027-28 date.
For the 2026-27 application, the prospectus lists school marksheets, medical fitness, willingness and declaration documents, and category-specific Defence certificates where applicable. It also identifies caste certificates when relevant and a graduation marksheet for PG-diploma applicants. The PDF gives additional Bengaluru North University portal and original-document instructions; these include DigiLocker and migration-certificate checks. Requirements can differ by programme and can change between sessions, so follow the current notice and portal checklist rather than assuming every listed certificate applies to every applicant.

AIFD’s 2026-27 prospectus provides a year-by-year FAD schedule and a separate four-year BVA schedule. The table distinguishes Defence and other-than-Defence applicants. For FAD, the listed tuition and campus/one-time/security components total ₹2.15L in year one, ₹1.85L in year two and ₹1.95L in year three for Defence applicants; the corresponding civilian figures are ₹2.30L, ₹2.00L and ₹2.10L. Adding the table’s hostel and mess annual charge of ₹1.10L gives displayed grand totals of ₹3.25L, ₹2.95L and ₹3.05L for Defence applicants, and ₹3.40L, ₹3.10L and ₹3.20L for civilians. These are the prospectus’ 2026-27 listed totals, not a promise of a 2027-28 price.
For BVA, the same schedule displays Defence grand totals of ₹3.25L, ₹2.95L, ₹3.00L and ₹3.05L across years one to four; civilian totals are ₹3.40L, ₹3.10L, ₹3.15L and ₹3.20L. The schedule lists hostel and mess together as ₹1.10L for each year. The hostel amount is a scheduled charge, not confirmation that a room is available or compulsory; check the current accommodation policy before budgeting on-campus residence.
Read the component notes before comparing totals. The prospectus says the tuition fee includes lab, computer, library, magazine, sports, transport, campus, internet, student insurance and affiliation-body fees. It lists the first-year one-time fee and security deposit separately. Its notes say the campus development charge is ₹5,000 per year for uniformed personnel and ₹20,000 per year for civilians; priority categories I to III have the same fees. University examination charges are paid to Bengaluru North University at actual rates, design activities such as shows, craft-cluster visits and tours are charged separately at actuals, and mess charges are adjusted against actual consumption. The document says tuition, hostel and mess are collected in two installments in July and January. Ask the institute for a current written amount, refund conditions and hostel availability before payment.
The official prospectus’ fee tables are image-based. The amounts above were transcribed from the visually inspected page 10, and the scope and component notes from page 11. The source is linked directly so applicants can verify the category and year columns. No precise 2026-27 postgraduate-diploma or IDD schedule was located in the reviewed fee table; request a programme-specific quotation instead of applying the FAD or BVA price to those courses.

First, choose by degree and study outcome: FAD focuses on fashion and apparel; BVA is a four-year visual-arts course with an Applied Arts or Graphic Design path; the postgraduate diplomas are one-year specialist courses. If you are considering IDD, a certificate or any programme not listed in the 2026-27 prospectus, ask for the current intake notice, affiliation, duration, eligibility and full fee schedule in writing.
Next, confirm your category and the admission cycle. The 2026-27 document uses Defence and civilian fee columns and says the admission seat matrix governs access. It does not provide evidence here for a future 2027-28 seat count or deadline. Use the current admissions page and portal, verify that the course is open in the cycle, and keep copies of the notice, submitted documents and payment receipts. The web page and PDF differ on whether the form is submitted online or as a scanned hand-filled form, so confirm the operative process before sending sensitive material.
Finally, build a full cost estimate rather than comparing only tuition. For FAD and BVA, include the correct year and category, hostel and mess only if applicable, exam charges, design activities, personal hostel items and travel. Confirm which amounts are refundable, whether hostel placement is guaranteed, and how instalment due dates work for the current cohort. AIFD’s published figures are a 2026-27 baseline; the upcoming session may use a revised schedule.
Review scheduling note: the stated review_after dates are editorial operator check dates, not official admission events or promised deadlines.
