What Aifd Publishes
What AIFD currently lists
AIFD’s scholarship webpage lists two links: “Essa scholarship” and “Pm scholarship.” The page carries an admissions 2027-28 banner, but it does not itself set out current scheme eligibility, award amounts, application dates, selection priorities or how an award applies to a particular AIFD programme. The linked documents are dated: the ESSA letter covers academic year 2015-16, and the PMSS brochure covers 2016-17. They are useful for understanding the historical schemes the institute points readers to, not as proof of current-cycle terms.
Do not use the presence of a scheme name on AIFD’s webpage to conclude that a student or a fashion/design programme is eligible today. Before budgeting around a scholarship, confirm the current official notice with the scheme administrator and AIFD. Ask which year’s guidelines apply, whether the exact AIFD course is an approved course, the applicant’s service or dependent category, marks and progression conditions, application portal and current deadline. Until those details are confirmed, treat the scholarship amount as unknown rather than subtracting an old figure from current fees. A scholarship link is a pointer to a scheme, not an award decision or a promise that every listed programme qualifies.
Essa Historical Document
ESSA: historical serving-personnel scheme details
The linked ESSA document is titled as an award of scholarships under the Education Scholarship Scheme for Army Personnel for academic year 2015-16. It described eligibility for children of serving Army personnel, under age 25 at the time of completing the class or course, from class IX through postgraduate study at a government or recognised private institution. It explicitly excluded wards of retired Army personnel, Territorial Army personnel and deceased Army personnel in that scheme version. Selection percentages varied by class and Army category: the letter listed separate Officer, JCO and OR thresholds, and it stated annual amounts by education level. Those are old conditions and amounts, not current AIFD fee support.
For the 2015-16 cycle, the document listed ₹1,500 a year for classes IX-XII, ₹2,500 for graduation and ₹6,000 for professional or postgraduate courses. It also linked applications to results from the immediately preceding academic year and set 30 November 2016 as the receipt date. That date is long past. Neither the date nor the old thresholds should be carried into 2027-28. The document’s distinctions also show why a general label such as “Defence applicant” is not enough to establish eligibility: serving Army personnel, retired personnel, Territorial Army personnel and deceased personnel are treated differently in that version. A current notice may change both categories and administration, so applicants should get current rules from AWES or the responsible Army office before relying on an old PDF.
Pmss Historical Scope
PMSS: an older Kendriya Sainik Board brochure
The other linked document is a Kendriya Sainik Board brochure for the Prime Minister’s Scholarship Scheme for academic year 2016-17. It describes a scheme for dependent wards and widows of ex-servicemen and ex-Indian Coast Guard personnel. For that cycle it required a student’s admission year to be 2016 and at least 60% in the stated minimum educational qualification; it said students already in second or later years were not eligible. It excluded wards of civilians, including paramilitary personnel, in that version. The brochure also described priority categories based on service-related death, disability and gallantry awards, and explained that selection considered both the service category and marks.
That brochure is not a current application notice. It does not establish present award numbers, amounts, eligibility thresholds or deadlines. Its professional-course examples include engineering, medicine, B.Ed, BBA, BCA and pharmacy, and it refers to recognition by the relevant regulator. Fashion or design is not explicitly named in the examples reviewed. Do not assume that an AIFD programme qualifies or is excluded on that basis alone; check the current course eligibility list and written guidance from the scheme administrator. The brochure assigns application processing to the Kendriya Sainik Board, not AIFD, so the institute’s link should not be mistaken for a scholarship award decision.
Questions Before Applying
Questions to resolve before applying
First identify the scheme precisely. ESSA and PMSS have different stated populations and administrators; a family member’s serving or former-service status can change which rules apply. Then ask the administrator to confirm the current academic-year notice, applicant category, exact course and institution eligibility, marks basis, whether the student must be a new entrant, renewal rules, other scholarship or stipend restrictions, documents, submission portal and closing date. Ask whether the award is paid to the student or adjusted against institute fees, and whether it is annual or conditional on passing. The old documents cannot answer those current questions.
Keep a copy of the current official scheme notice and any written confirmation that names the exact course. Check that the notice is not an archived year before uploading bank, service or identity documents. If the scholarship is not confirmed for the intended programme, build a budget using AIFD’s current fee schedule without assuming an award. AIFD’s scholarship page is a pointer to two schemes; the dated PDFs show historical examples, while a current official notification is needed for an actual 2027-28 decision. Applicants should also verify that an AIFD admissions representative has not simply repeated an old brochure condition without confirming the present scheme year.
