BIT Mesra’s most recent detailed scholarship rules reviewed here are effective from Spring 2026, and its 16 October 2026 notice begins the Monsoon 2026 application cycle through ERP. That notice says applications for MO 2026, based on Spring 2026 results, would be invited shortly; it does not give an application closing date. A second notice says detailed ERP instructions were expected in the first week of November 2026. For a 2027-28 applicant, these are useful descriptions of the scheme, not an announced 2027 award calendar or guaranteed eligibility. Check the current ERP notification and the institute’s G.P. Birla Scholarship page before preparing a submission.
G.P. Birla Scholarship: who the current notice covers
The MO 2026 notice names B.Tech and B.Pharm students admitted from MO 2023 onwards, B.Arch students from MO 2022 onwards, and Integrated M.Sc students from MO 2024 onwards. It says MO 2026 entrants will be considered by JEE Main or equivalent entrance rank under the scheme. The underlying guidelines cover eligible undergraduate students in four- or five-year programmes admitted through JEE Main or an equivalent examination, and apply to BIT Mesra’s main and off-campus students. The guidelines say Integrated M.Sc support applies only through the undergraduate level, Semesters I to V; the scheme does not extend to postgraduate study beyond Semester V.
The rules separate the first-semester merit award from continuation awards. For first semester, the entrance-rank bands and tuition-fee waiver percentages differ by degree group and category:
These are the guideline’s rank bands, not cutoffs for admission. For the first semester they use JEE Main or equivalent exam rank; from semester two, the continuing merit scholarship is based on the preceding semester’s SGPA. The guidelines set a threshold above 9.00 SGPA with no backlog for continuation. They also state that five girl students are selected separately from the lower end of the merit list, in addition to the merit-based selection, and that the awards are tuition-fee waivers subject to availability of funds. The notice’s MO 2026 checklist asks new entrants for their rank card and continuing applicants for the Spring 2026 SGPA card.
Merit-cum-means categories
The G.P. Birla Merit-cum-Means category is for eligible undergraduate students in the General category under EWS. The Spring 2026-effective guidelines require preceding-semester SGPA above 8.00, no backlog in that semester and parents’ annual income below ₹8 lakh. The scholarship starts from semester two. The MO 2026 notice asks applicants for the Spring 2026 SGPA card, a current EWS certificate, and an income certificate with income from all sources below ₹8 lakh. For that particular notice, the EWS and income certificates are stated as valid through 30 September 2026; do not carry that certificate-validity date into another session.
The Economically and Socially Challenged Students (ESCS) category is described for eligible SC, ST, OBC, EBC and NCL students. The guideline sets preceding-semester SGPA above 7.00 and parents’ income below ₹8 lakh, with awards from the second semester. Its MO 2026 checklist requests the Spring 2026 SGPA card, caste/category certificate and income certificate; for OBC, EBC and NCL applicants, the category certificate is stated as valid through 30 September 2026. Documents must be issued by an authority at or above the ranks listed in the notice and guidelines. These cycle-specific document dates have passed, so applicants should use the next ERP notice for its required certificate validity and issuing authority.
The guideline sets the academic and income criteria but does not promise that every eligible student will receive an award: the institute says the number and percentage of waivers can depend on funds and approved budgets. It also bars awards for students with disciplinary punishment, including a black dot, and states that students with backlogs during the programme are not eligible. Because the current notice’s per-category documents are tied to SP 2026, a 2027-28 student should not reuse them without checking the next form.
Program topper prize and combination limits
The G.P. Birla Prize to the Program Topper is distinct from the percentage-based merit waivers. The Spring 2026-effective guideline describes a ₹15,000 prize and merit certificate for each branch topper in every semester, based on the preceding semester’s SGPA; where students tie at the top, the amount is divided equally and each receives a certificate. The MO 2026 notice asks for the SP 2026 SGPA card for this category. Confirm the current notification’s application or verification steps rather than assuming that an older cycle’s process applies.
The institute’s guideline says a student may receive only one scholarship or BIT financial assistantship at a time. It also says awards depend on available funds, and no scholarship is awarded on the basis of final-semester results. These restrictions matter when budgeting: an applicant should not add two possible awards together or subtract a waiver from tuition before the institute confirms the selected category, percentage and payable amount.
BIT Financial Assistantship
BIT published a separate Financial Assistantship notice for MO 2026, also dated 16 October and based on SP 2026 results. It describes two application categories: sudden demise of the earning family member and staff wards. The first category concerns a student who lost a parent who was the sole earning member after admission, or up to 30 June 2026, and is facing financial hardship due to that death. The notice lists an SGPA card, death certificate, and current income evidence, including an income certificate stated as valid through 30 September 2026 or the earning parent’s income-tax return where applicable. For staff wards, it lists the employee parent’s latest salary slip and an income certificate, or an income-tax return for other income such as pension.
Both notices require applications through the ERP system only and advise students to arrange documents in advance. They say the detailed ERP notification was expected in the first week of November 2026. The notices do not state an assistantship amount or an application deadline in the document captured here. Check ERP for the subsequent notice before treating an application window as open or estimating the value of assistance. Do not treat this assistantship as a scholarship amount or assume that a G.P. Birla award can be combined with it.
Other aid and how to verify your award
BIT’s student FAQ directs students to the Scholarship Section for government and state assistance, including e-Kalyan Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh’s Mukhyamantri Medhavi Vidyarthi Yojana, the National Scholarship Portal and Bihar Students Credit Card Scheme. These are external schemes or financing routes with their own domicile, category, income, course and deadline rules; they are not automatic BIT tuition waivers. The institute lists the Scholarship Section at 0651-2275444, extension 4610, and [email protected], and directs G.P. Birla queries to the Dean of Student Affairs at [email protected]. Confirm current contacts and the correct campus office before sending personal documents.
A practical checklist is to identify your admission session, programme and campus; check the latest notice for the specific award; confirm whether the basis is entrance rank or preceding-semester SGPA; gather only the listed certificates in the required validity period; and submit through the route stated in that notice. Save the ERP acknowledgement and ask the institute to confirm the award category, tuition waiver or assistantship amount, duration, renewal conditions and any effect on other aid. The 2026 notice is a useful recent example, but it does not announce a 2027-28 application date or guarantee that its thresholds and document rules will remain unchanged.
