The Delhi School of Economics (DSE), operating under the University of Delhi (DU), offers distinct postgraduate programmes across its constituent departments: Economics, Commerce, Sociology, and Geography. While DSE does not offer undergraduate degrees, its two-year master’s programmes serve applicants with varying academic backgrounds and career objectives.
Choosing the right DSE programme depends on aligning your previous degree qualifications with the department's entry route (CAT or CUET PG) and understanding the corresponding fee structures.
The following matrix compares DSE’s primary master's programmes based on entry requirements, target backgrounds, and listed tuition fees.
Note: All programmes have a two-year duration. Fees exclude hostel, mess charges, and refundable security deposits. Annual fees are subject to revision by the University of Delhi.
The Department of Commerce at DSE offers three specialized MBA programmes:
Eligibility and Entry: Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree in any discipline with at least 50% marks (45% for OBC/SC/ST/PwBD/CW categories). Admission requires a valid Common Admission Test (CAT) score, followed by a separate application to the Department of Commerce. DSE does not conduct its own entrance exam for these programmes.
Fee Structure: Compared to private business schools, DSE's MBA programmes are highly subsidized. The annual admission fee is ₹53,980, bringing the total two-year cost to approximately ₹1.08 Lakhs. Foreign students face a different fee structure, paying approximately US$ 3,500 per year. An additional, non-refundable application fee (₹2,000 for UR/OBC/CW and ₹1,000 for SC/ST/PwBD/EWS) applies during the departmental registration phase. Once a seat is allotted during the counselling rounds, candidates receive an online payment link and must pay the course fee within a stipulated deadline to secure admission.
The M.A. Economics is DSE's flagship programme, known for its rigorous mathematical and quantitative approach.
Eligibility and Entry: Candidates must have completed a bachelor's degree. Given the curriculum's nature, a strong foundation in mathematics and economics is highly recommended. Admission is conducted through the DU Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS PG) based exclusively on the candidate's CUET (PG) score.
Fee Structure: The M.A. Economics programme follows the standard University of Delhi fee schedule for postgraduate courses. The total payable fee is approximately ₹12,939 per year. This encompasses several components, including:
M.Com.: Administered by the Department of Commerce, the Master of Commerce (M.Com.) is suited for graduates with a B.Com. or B.A. (Hons) in Business/Economics. Admission is via CUET (PG) and DU CSAS PG. The programme fee is highly affordable, generally ranging from ₹7,000 to ₹8,000 annually.
M.A. Sociology and M.A. Geography: These programmes are managed by their respective departments within the DSE campus. Both are two-year programmes requiring a CUET (PG) score for admission. The fee structures mirror the standard, heavily subsidized DU postgraduate rates.
