DAU B.Tech merit and merit-cum-means awards
DAU’s B.Tech scholarship notice says its revised merit and merit-cum-means scheme took effect from the 2025-26 batch. It describes up to 33 awards per batch, beginning from the second semester: five merit scholarships, eight 70% merit-cum-means scholarships and twenty 50% merit-cum-means scholarships. Awards are based on semester performance and are not an automatic reduction in the first-semester admission bill. The official B.Tech scholarship rules are the controlling source; verify that a later batch’s rules remain the same before budgeting.
The five merit awards are for the programme-wise top students with SPI of at least 8.5/10 and cover the full semester tuition fee. The eight 70% merit-cum-means awards require SPI of at least 6.5/10 and stated annual family income below ₹6 lakh. The twenty 50% awards require SPI of at least 6.5/10 and stated annual family income below ₹8 lakh. The notice labels the percentages against semester tuition; this page does not apply those percentages to registration, hostel, food, deposits or course-specific charges.
The award count is limited, so meeting the stated score and income conditions does not alone establish that a student will receive an award. The university says that scholarship decisions are based on performance in each semester and students must continue to satisfy the criteria. Ask the scholarship office which programme-wise ranking, application window, documentation and selection procedure apply to your cohort.
Eligibility is checked again each semester
For the listed B.Tech awards, the student must be registered for the semester after the one on which the award is based and must have paid tuition and other fees in full by the due date. The student must pass all credit courses, have no backlog and have no disciplinary case initiated or recorded. The notice says eligibility is assessed every semester. A student should therefore treat the award as conditional, not as a four-year scholarship promised at admission.
The policy also states that DAU may recover scholarship amounts if a student withdraws before completing the programme, has admission terminated, or receives a disciplinary punishment or penalty. Before relying on an award, read the full scheme and undertaking, including how the institution defines performance, deadlines, continuation and recovery. Keep fee-payment proof, semester results and application documents. If a student’s circumstances change, ask the office about the effect before making assumptions about renewal.
These conditions matter for family budgeting. A merit award covers semester tuition as specified; it does not automatically cover the other lines in a fee schedule. The university’s separate 2026-27 fee notice lists registration, a refundable caution deposit, hostel rent, food and EVD-specific value-added course charges. Scholarship support should be calculated only against the exact covered tuition amount after the award is confirmed.
Merit-cum-means assessment and documents
For merit-cum-means applicants, the notice asks for the parents’ last two years of income tax returns, the last six months of electricity bills, the parents’ bank statements for the last year and Form 26AS. It says the final decision is based on an assessment of family income, expenditure and assets, followed by a personal visit to the family residence or business by an independent audit agency. This is a material part of the stated selection process: income qualification is not described as a simple self-declaration alone.
The scheme says selected students should not receive another financial assistance award, fellowship or scholarship from the Government of India, a State Government or another private agency. Applicants should confirm how this restriction applies to any existing or prospective aid before accepting a scholarship. Do not assume that multiple awards can be combined. The notice also requires an undertaking to follow scheme regulations and says false documents or information may lead to disciplinary action.
Prepare only the documents requested by the current official application process, and submit them through the stated secure channel. If a family cannot provide a particular record or has non-standard income, ask DAU for written instructions rather than substituting an unapproved document. The captured notice does not establish a current 2027-28 application window or how to handle every income situation, so these points must be reconfirmed for the relevant batch.
Other listed schemes and practical next steps
DAU’s scholarship directory lists other programme- or donor-specific schemes, including B.Tech institute fellowships, B.Tech DAFS merit scholarships, BS-MS fellowships, MSc IT, MSc Data Science, MSc Agriculture Analytics and M.Des awards, as well as named external scholarships. A directory entry shows that a scheme has a page; it does not mean every student is eligible, that applications are currently open or that an award can be combined with B.Tech merit-cum-means support. Verify the exact programme, category, intake year, amount, eligibility and renewal conditions in the current scheme notice. See the official scholarships directory.
For the 2026-27 B.Tech All India admission cycle, the fee page listed semester tuition of ₹1,92,500, separate registration and a refundable caution deposit. The university says tuition is subject to annual revision. Those are prior-cycle figures, not 2027-28 fees. Even where a scholarship covers a stated percentage of tuition, a family should plan separately for charges outside the scheme’s stated basis and verify the current approved amount.
A useful checklist is to confirm: whether the scheme applies to your degree and batch; when an application must be filed; what “programme-wise top student” means; which semester SPI is counted; income-document requirements; whether an external scholarship disqualifies you; when results are announced; what costs the award actually covers; and the conditions for renewal or recovery. Get answers from the current official policy or scholarship office. The information captured here describes the 2025-26 B.Tech scheme and should not be treated as a confirmed rule for a later entering class.
