IIM Bangalore admissions: choose the exact programme route
IIM Bangalore does not have one admission process for every course. For domestic applicants to its two-year Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGP), the current official page identifies CAT as the entry test and describes a multi-factor selection process. IIMB’s portfolio also includes PGPBA, programmes for experienced and working professionals, public-policy study, doctoral research and new undergraduate degrees. Their selection rules must be checked on their own programme pages. Start with the exact degree and applicant category, then use that course’s current notice for dates, eligibility and required documents. Domestic PGP admissions
Domestic PGP: CAT is one part of selection
IIMB says domestic applications to the PGP are based on the Common Admission Test conducted by the IIMs. The institute does not describe admission as a percentile-only decision. Its page says it uses school, high-school and undergraduate academic performance, CAT scores and relevant work experience to build a composite score for the next stage. The CAT score also helps assess minimum proficiency, including section-wise minimums. IIMB states that the CAT cutoff varies from year to year, so an older cutoff or a third-party estimate is not a current-cycle guarantee.
Shortlisted domestic candidates take a written assessment and personal interview and provide two letters of reference from people familiar with their academic or professional performance. The page says the final selection uses CAT performance, scholastic achievement, work experience, the Writing Ability Test and interview. This means applicants should distinguish three steps: meeting the current test requirements, being shortlisted under that year’s composite method, and performing in the later assessment. A past minimum can help explain an earlier cycle, but it cannot establish whether an applicant will be shortlisted in a different cycle.
The domestic and international channels are separate. IIMB says domestic applications are submitted through CAT; it also states that international candidates have a different channel, requirements and application process. The captured domestic page mentions CAT/GMAT in its broader explanation of aptitude but does not justify treating GMAT as an alternative domestic PGP route. Applicants should follow the official page for their own residency category and cycle, rather than borrowing test rules from another channel.
Do not carry the PGP route across the portfolio
IIMB’s programme directory distinguishes the two-year full-time PGP and PGPBA from the one-year full-time residential EPGP for experienced professionals and the two-year PGPEM for working professionals. It also lists PGPPM, a public-policy and management degree, and the five-year full-time PhD. The programme name and intended audience are useful first checks, but they do not supply a common entrance test or common eligibility rule. A candidate should open the individual admissions page for the exact award before preparing for a test or paying an application fee. IIMB programme directory
The domestic PGP page is specific to the PGP. It should not be used to claim that CAT is the sole or required route for PGPBA, EPGP, PGPEM, PGPPM, PhD or a certificate programme. For example, IIMB lists PGPBA as a separate two-year full-time programme, but the source captured for this page does not establish its current selection criteria. Likewise, “for working professionals” describes PGPEM’s audience; it does not, by itself, establish a schedule, waiver, or accepted test. These are questions for the current course-specific admission notice.
Applicants comparing the PGP and PGPBA should first decide whether they are applying to the broad management degree or the separately named Business Analytics programme, then check the application form and requirements for that exact option. Do not assume that a common institutional brand means identical eligibility, score thresholds, selection stages or deadlines. If a notice lists multiple programme preferences, check whether those preferences share one application, require separate choices, or have distinct assessment criteria; the official cycle document is the controlling source.
Undergraduate applications and the Jigani campus
IIMB announced two four-year undergraduate BSc (Honours) programmes in July 2025: Economics with a minor in Data Science and Business, and Data Science with a minor in Economics and Business. The announcement described full-time residential study at the institute’s upcoming Jigani campus, about 27 km from the main campus. It set an inaugural intake plan of 40 students in each programme and said the first batch was scheduled to start in August 2026. These are dated launch details, not proof of current vacancies, application dates or later-cycle intake. Undergraduate programme launch
The launch notice pointed to IIMB’s undergraduate admissions site for application information. For a current applicant, that live UG notice should control: verify the exact degree, eligibility, selection process, deadlines, fees, intake and campus arrangements there. Do not apply the domestic PGP CAT process to the BSc degrees unless their own current notice explicitly says so. The July 2025 announcement establishes the programme names and planned launch format, but not every detail of the 2026 cycle or any later batch.
The location is part of the admission decision. The announcement places the undergraduate programmes at Jigani, distinct from IIMB’s main Bannerghatta Road campus. Families should confirm where teaching and residential facilities are operating for the admitted cohort, how travel works, and what accommodation and fee components apply. The 27 km figure is the institute’s approximate comparison in its launch announcement, not a travel-time estimate. A future update to the campus plan should be checked against the latest official undergraduate notice.
A practical application checklist
Before applying, write down the exact programme title, degree level, applicant category and intended intake year. For domestic PGP, check the CAT cycle and section-wise requirements, then read the current shortlisting and interview stages. Confirm whether the candidate meets the academic eligibility criteria, prepare the two references requested for shortlisted candidates, and track the written assessment and interview instructions. Do not substitute a previous year’s cutoff for the current notice: IIMB explicitly says the CAT cutoff varies by year.
For programmes other than domestic PGP, start from that programme’s own admissions page. Confirm which test, if any, is accepted; whether work experience is required or only considered; what degree and academic records are needed; and whether the application is residential, full-time or designed around current employment. For the undergraduate degrees, use the current UG site and check the Jigani campus notice. These steps help prevent an avoidable error: confusing a programme’s audience with its eligibility rule, or a selection criterion with an automatic admission guarantee.
The official material captured for this refresh gives a clear domestic PGP route and a dated UG launch description, but it does not confirm a complete set of 2027–28 application dates or selection rules for every other programme. Applicants should use the current official cycle page for any live date, application fee, score minimum, document list or exception. Where a later notice changes an earlier schedule, follow the later notice and keep the programme and applicant category attached to the rule.
