PGP scholarship support: institute merit awards and government schemes
IIM Rohtak’s official RTI information manual, last updated on 1 July 2025, describes two distinct forms of scholarship support relevant to the Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGP). First, it says the institute awards ₹1 lakh to each of the 10 meritorious students with the highest Term Grade Point Average (TGPA) in each term of the PGP first and second years. The manual separately reports that 27 PGP students received a scholarship in academic year 2024-25. These are historical disclosures, not a promise that a particular 2027-28 entrant will receive an award. The manual does not explain whether the same student may be counted more than once across terms, so the 27-student figure should not be converted into a count of awards per term or a guaranteed number of recipients in a future year.
The same manual lists Government of India scholarship schemes available to PGP participants. Its list includes the Central Sector Top Class Education scheme for Scheduled Caste students, the corresponding Top Class Education scheme for Scheduled Tribe students, the Merit-cum-Means scholarship scheme for students from minority communities, and a scholarship scheme for persons with disabilities administered through the National Handicapped Finance and Development Corporation. IIM Rohtak directs readers to the National Scholarship Portal and the relevant ministry or scheme pages for details.
Treat an institute merit award and an external government scholarship as separate options. The institute’s TGPA-based award is described in the manual as a term-level merit scholarship. Government schemes have their own eligibility, application and award rules. The RTI manual does not give a current income threshold, application deadline, amount or renewal rule for each external scheme. Check the live scheme notice and the next PGP batch communication before relying on an amount or deciding that a category alone makes you eligible.
Check the scheme notice before you apply
The official manual names four kinds of Government of India scholarship opportunities for PGP participants, but it sends applicants to the National Scholarship Portal and the individual scheme pages for the operating details. That is a referral, not a substitute for the current notice. The scheme administrator determines eligible institutions, category and income conditions, application documents, submission windows, award amounts, renewals and payment procedures. Those details can differ by scheme and can change between academic years.
Start by matching the official scheme name to your situation: SC, ST, minority-community or disability-related support. Then use the portal’s current notice to check whether IIM Rohtak and your PGP batch are covered, which academic year the application concerns, whether an income or other threshold applies, and what evidence must be uploaded. Save the application number and submitted form. If the portal and an older institute manual disagree, use the current scheme administrator’s published instructions and ask the institute’s PGP office to confirm how the scheme is coordinated with enrolment.
Do not treat reservation eligibility as proof of scholarship approval. The institute’s manual lists its reservation policy separately from its scholarship programme and points applicants to Government of India norms. A reserved category, admission offer or payment of programme fees does not by itself establish that an external scholarship application was accepted. Likewise, an award shown for an earlier year is evidence that support was reported then, not proof that the same scheme remains open on the same terms for a later intake.
The published information reviewed here does not establish a universal means-tested fee waiver for PGP participants. It does identify the institute’s TGPA-based scholarship and links external schemes. If you need a budget before accepting an offer, ask the institute which aid is actually available to your batch and plan using the confirmed programme fee until an award notice is issued.
Doctoral Programme in Management support is different
IIM Rohtak’s DPM Batch 14 prospectus for 2026-2030 describes a separate financial-assistance package for full-time doctoral participants. It lists a stipend of ₹45,000 per month for the first two years and ₹50,000 after passing the second year. It also describes a merit scholarship, subject to satisfactory performance, of ₹10,000 per month in year two and ₹15,000 per month in years three and four; an additional stipend may be paid to eligible scholars for qualifying research publications. The prospectus provides a ₹2.5 lakh contingency grant distributed across four years and says tuition is waived for participants receiving the monthly stipend. The offer acceptance fee, alumni fee and other specified expenses remain payable.
These are Batch 14 DPM terms, not PGP scholarships. They should not be used to claim that PGP, IPM or IPL students receive a stipend, contingency grant or tuition waiver. The prospectus also ties later stipend levels to programme progress and the merit scholarship to satisfactory performance. A doctoral applicant should read the current DPM offer and prospectus for the exact conditions before estimating net costs.
The institute’s Financial Assistance page also describes DPM support, but the direct page did not load during this check. The opened Batch 14 prospectus is therefore the source for the specific amounts above. It is a 2026-2030 package and does not establish what a subsequent DPM batch will receive.
A practical checklist for applicants
- Identify the programme before comparing aid. The PGP merit award, Government of India scholarships listed for PGP participants and the DPM stipend package have different purposes and rules.
- For an external scholarship, open the current notice from the National Scholarship Portal or the scheme ministry. Confirm that the exact academic year, institution and programme are covered, then check all eligibility and renewal conditions.
- Keep dated evidence: the scheme notice, submitted form, acknowledgement, institute fee schedule and any award or rejection letter. Do not count a pending application as a fee reduction.
- Ask the PGP office for written clarification if a scholarship notice does not explain how the award is applied to IIM Rohtak charges or what happens if payment and award dates differ. The institute’s general PGP and DPM contacts are listed on its official website.
- Budget against the confirmed fee schedule and treat any scholarship as conditional until the administrator issues an award. The current sources reviewed here do not state confirmed PGP scholarship terms for the 2027-28 publication guide’s next intake.
The most concrete PGP institute award disclosure available in the reviewed RTI manual is the ₹1 lakh TGPA-based scholarship per selected student per term in PGP Years I and II, alongside the report of 27 PGP scholarship recipients in 2024-25. That gives applicants a dated reference point while leaving future selection, external scheme eligibility and award amounts to the official batch and scheme notices.
