IIM Sirmaur admission 2027-28: CAT, IPMAT and selection rules
IIM Sirmaur’s current reader edition is 2027-28, but the official admission policies captured for this guide cover the general MBA and tourism programmes for 2026-28, and the BMS for 2026-30. They are useful examples of how the institute structured those cycles. They do not establish a 2027-28 application date, test cycle, shortlist threshold or final score formula. Check the institute’s admission portal for the policy tied to your actual intake before paying for an application or treating a past threshold as current.
General MBA: CAT, CAP and the PI shortlist
The latest general MBA policy reviewed is for AY 2026-28. It names CAT 2025 and describes a two-phase CAP process. The published table gives CAT 2025 minimums for the CAP 2026 personal-interview shortlist. They are not closing CAT scores, final merit scores or guarantees of an interview or admission.
After shortlisting and interview, the policy’s final composite uses six weighted components. Meeting a shortlist floor keeps an applicant eligible for that next stage under the policy; it does not determine the final list.
The weights sum to 100%. The institute publishes a Trailblazer component; read its qualification rules rather than assume any extracurricular activity qualifies. The policy also applies category and academic-profile conditions. These general-category figures cannot substitute for the full table row that matches an applicant’s category and profile.
MBA Tourism and TTHM: a separate CAT policy
The 2026-28 tourism policy names both MBA Tourism Management (MBA TM) and MBA Tourism, Travel and Hospitality Management (MBA TTHM). It uses CAT 2025 and sets shortlist floors separately from the general MBA policy. For the general category, the captured table gives sectional minimums of 60 and overall minimums of 85 for men and 80 for women. These are PI-shortlist eligibility thresholds for that cycle, not final admission cutoffs.
The tourism policy’s final composite uses CAT 35%, PI 20%, academic profile 15%, work experience 20%, gender diversity 5% and Trailblazer 5%. It specifically includes tourism and hospitality qualifications within its Trailblazer rules. Use the policy for the programme selected: the general MBA table’s 65 sectionals and 90/85 overall floors do not replace the separate tourism table.
The two tourism degrees share a policy document but remain distinct programmes. Confirm the exact programme title and intake on the current offer and portal rather than assuming that a past combined policy guarantees unchanged availability.
BMS: IPMAT aptitude score and a different composite
The BMS policy reviewed is for AY 2026-30. It uses the IPMAT Aptitude Test Score (ATS) for interview shortlisting. Its 2026 ATS cutoffs include 55 for General, 28 for EWS and 26 for NC-OBC. Those are category-labelled thresholds in that policy, not CAT percentiles and not 2027-28 BMS cutoffs. The policy also explains the ATS formula: 25% Quantitative Ability MCQ, 25% Quantitative Ability short-answer and 50% Verbal Ability MCQ. For the 2026 cycle, applicants register for IPMAT through IIM Indore before its deadline and pay the test fee there; IIM Sirmaur says it does not handle registration, fees or test organisation. These are dated policy instructions, not confirmed 2027-28 arrangements.
For final selection, the published BMS composite assigns 50% to ATS, 20% to interview, 25% to academics and 5% to gender diversity. This is a different formula from the MBA and tourism policies. A CAT score or an MBA work-experience weight should not be carried over to BMS. Review the current BMS notice for its exact test window, category table, eligibility conditions and application steps.
What to verify before applying
- Match the policy to the programme and intake. General MBA, MBA TM/TTHM and BMS use different routes. The policy years above are historical reference cycles; they do not establish that the next application window has started.
- Use the right test. The reviewed MBA and tourism policies name CAT 2025. The reviewed BMS policy uses IPMAT ATS for interview shortlisting. Do not infer the next test year or registration window from that history.
- Read the full category row and stage. A PI-shortlist floor differs from a final composite. Category, sectional conditions and profile criteria in the notice matter alongside the overall number.
- Check each component’s definition. The MBA/Tourism weights include academics, work experience, gender diversity and Trailblazer; the BMS weights use ATS, interview, academics and gender diversity. The policies define qualifying inputs.
- Recheck dates and documents on the live portal. The material reviewed here does not establish a 2027-28 application deadline or later-cycle policy. For PhD or another programme, use its separate current notice; the MBA and BMS rules above do not apply.
Until IIM Sirmaur publishes a matching notice, the responsible planning position is to use the prior policies as context and verify the official cycle before acting. These tables explain earlier selection structures; they cannot tell applicants when the next application opens or what its thresholds will be.
