IIT Delhi's Academic Section published a fee schedule for new undergraduate entrants in B.Tech, dual-degree, BS Chemistry and B.Tech in Design for 2026-27. It separates tuition from one-time payments, other charges, refundable deposits and hostel seat rent. That distinction matters: a tuition waiver does not erase every charge, and the listed entry amount is not a full estimate of living costs. The source schedule is for the 2026 entry cohort, not a confirmed 2027-28 price list.
For Indian nationals, the 2026-27 tuition amount depends on category and, for General, OBC and GEN-EWS students, declared family income. The schedule lists ₹1,00,000 for family income above ₹5 lakh, ₹33,333 for income from ₹1 lakh to ₹5 lakh, and nil for income below ₹1 lakh. SC, ST and PwD entrants have nil tuition in the schedule. These are tuition rows only; students should read them alongside the remaining charges and the evidence-submission process.
The same schedule lists one-time payments totalling ₹8,150: admission fee ₹2,000, student welfare fund ₹750, modernization fee ₹1,500, benevolent fund ₹400, alumni fee ₹2,000, and training and placement charges ₹1,500. The listed other charges total ₹6,250: examination ₹1,500, registration and enrolment ₹750, gymkhana ₹1,250, medical fee ₹750, internet and computer fee ₹1,000, bus transport ₹100, student distress fund ₹400, and an insurance scheme charge of ₹500. The PDF labels the insurance item as annual.
Two refundable caution deposits total ₹8,000: institute security ₹4,000 and library security ₹4,000. Hostel seat rent is ₹8,600 for a hostel resident and zero for a day scholar. The published schedule does not itemize mess bills, personal expenses, travel or the cost of books and equipment, so these amounts should not be mistaken for a complete budget. Ask the Academic Section or hostel administration for the current mess and residence billing details before planning funds.
The document also shows a contribution already paid through JoSAA toward institute fees: ₹25,000 for General/OBC/GEN-EWS and ₹10,000 for SC/ST/PwD. It then provides amounts payable after that credit. For a hostel resident, the payable amounts shown are ₹1,06,000 for General/OBC/GEN-EWS above ₹5 lakh, ₹39,333 for the ₹1-5 lakh band, ₹6,000 below ₹1 lakh, and ₹21,000 for SC/ST/PwD. For day scholars, the corresponding payable amounts shown are ₹97,400, ₹30,733, minus ₹2,600, and ₹12,400. The footnote says the ₹2,600 excess payment is adjusted against the next semester's fee.
There is an apparent OCR or source-table inconsistency in the day-scholar total-fees row for the above-₹5-lakh category: the row appears to say ₹7,22,400, while the listed components and the post-JoSAA payable line do not reconcile to that figure. This page therefore relies on the schedule's itemized charges and its explicit post-JoSAA payable table, and does not repeat the disputed aggregate. Confirm the amount against the payment portal or a corrected Academic Section notice before making a payment.
IIT Delhi's financial-assistance page describes multiple forms of support. Its Merit-cum-Means scholarship is available to eligible undergraduate engineering and technology students and students in M.A., M.Sc. and M.P.P. programmes. The page says it is offered to about 25% of students whose annual family income is up to ₹8 lakh, with a current stated value of ₹4,000 per month for General/OBC/EWS students after valid annual income proof is uploaded. Recipients are also exempt from tuition fees. Renewal requires a minimum SGPA and CGPA of 6.0.
The page separately describes Institute Free Studentship as a tuition-fee waiver for 10% of students on means alone if more than 25% of students are eligible for MCM. It states tuition-fee exemption for SC, ST and PwD students irrespective of parental income. Eligible SC and ST students with annual family income below ₹8 lakh may also receive free messing for the basic menu charges plus ₹1,000 monthly pocket allowance for a fixed programme-dependent period, subject to annual proof. Donor scholarships have criteria that can include income, programme, gender, branch, JEE rank and academic performance.
These are distinct schemes with separate eligibility and renewal conditions. The fee schedule's nil-tuition rows do not mean that one-time charges, other charges, deposits or hostel seat rent disappear. Likewise, an MCM tuition exemption is part of a scholarship arrangement and should not be interpreted as an all-fee waiver. Applicants should verify each scheme's latest rules and deadlines with the Academic Section and submit income documents through the specified portal. The 2026-27 entry schedule warns that missing the income-document deadline can result in the full tuition fee being generated.
For foreign nationals, the same 2026-27 entry schedule lists tuition of USD 1,000 for SAARC students and USD 2,000 for non-SAARC students. It separately adds ₹31,000, itemized as ₹8,150 one-time charges, ₹6,250 other charges, ₹8,000 refundable deposits and ₹8,600 hostel seat rent. The schedule presents these as its specified charges; it does not establish an annual all-in cost or include mess and personal expenses. Confirm the applicable payment currency, residence choice and any updated international-student instructions before remitting funds.
Before accepting an offer or arranging an education loan, use the schedule for the correct entry year and residence status. Check whether the displayed amount is before or after the JoSAA credit; include refundable deposits as cash required at entry, but do not treat them as recurring tuition. Keep the family-income band and category evidence aligned with the institute's documentation rules. If a fee portal total conflicts with this PDF, request written clarification instead of estimating from the questionable aggregate line.
As of 27 October 2026, the opened official source set contains the 2026-27 new-entry schedule and does not establish the 2027-28 fee amount. Do not carry forward these amounts as a promise for 2027 entrants. Recheck the Academic Section's current circulars when the 2027-28 schedule is issued. The 2026 schedule's late-payment dates were in July and August 2026 and have passed; they are historical instructions, not deadlines for a future entrant.
