For IIT Delhi undergraduate programmes, the usable cutoff reference is the opening and closing rank released by the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) for a specific counselling round. It is not a fixed score that guarantees admission in the next year. The live JoSAA 2026 rank interface is titled for the 2026-27 academic year and lets a reader filter by round, institute type, institute, academic programme and seat type or category. Select Indian Institute of Technology Delhi and the exact programme before reading a rank.
JoSAA's rank definitions are essential to interpretation. For OPEN seats, opening and closing ranks represent the Common Rank List (CRL). For EWS, OBC-NCL, SC and ST seats, the displayed rank is the respective category rank. PwD seats use PwD ranks within the respective categories. A rank with a trailing “P” comes from a preparatory rank list. These are different rank scales; comparing the same number across categories can mislead. Read the seat type, category and rank list together.
A cutoff row is specific to a combination of round, institute, academic programme, seat type or category, and gender pool. JoSAA's filter separates gender-neutral seats from female-only seats, including supernumerary seats where applicable. It also distinguishes programmes by degree and duration. For a useful comparison, match the exact programme name and degree type rather than treating all IIT Delhi engineering programmes as one course. Check the quota or seat pool shown in the result; JoSAA's national IIT seat-allocation context differs from state-home-quota counselling systems.
The opening rank is the best rank at which a seat was allotted within that selected row and round; the closing rank is the last rank among those allotted. These values describe the candidates who received seats during a past allocation. A closing rank is therefore a historical boundary, not a minimum eligibility score, a predicted rank, or an assurance that a candidate just inside that boundary will get the same seat next year. Seat counts, preferences, withdrawals, category and round progression all affect later outcomes.
Round matters. JoSAA says the institute-wise allocation result and opening and closing ranks are published after each round. The 2026 JoSAA home page identifies the Round 5 seat-allocation result as announced; the 2026 OR-CR tool itself provides the rank filter. Use the latest round available for the year you are reviewing and record the round beside every saved figure. Do not silently mix an early-round opening rank with a final-round closing rank, or use one round's number as if it represented the entire counselling process.
Open JoSAA's Opening and Closing Ranks page and use its 2026 link. On the rank interface, choose the round, institute type for IITs, IIT Delhi, the exact academic programme and seat type/category. Then check the gender pool and the rank label. Record both opening and closing ranks exactly as shown, including any preparatory-rank suffix. If you are comparing courses, repeat the same filter combination for each course. If you are comparing years, use the archive for previous-year opening and closing ranks and retain the year and round for each row.
A practical comparison note should preserve at least five fields: counselling year, round, programme and degree duration, category or seat type, and gender pool. If the candidate is eligible under a PwD subcategory, use the corresponding category-plus-PwD row rather than the ordinary category rank. If a result has no row for a combination, do not interpret that as a zero cutoff or proof that the programme had no seats; verify the filter selection and consult the JoSAA helpdesk or published seat matrix.
The OR-CR tool is an official interactive source, not a static table in this article. Its page presents required selectors and rank definitions, while individual results depend on the user's chosen filters. This page therefore avoids printing a partial set of numerical ranks without a directly verified, complete table. Applicants should use the source interface for programme-specific values and retain a dated record of their filters. That is safer than relying on an unlabelled number copied from a coaching, news or aggregator page.
Past closing ranks can help you understand relative demand across programmes, but they should be considered alongside interest in the subject, curriculum, degree length, fees, location, and your willingness to accept the seat. A higher-preference choice should reflect what you actually want, not a prediction that one cutoff will move in a particular direction. JoSAA's own process includes seat-allocation results, willingness choices such as float, freeze or slide, and payment and document steps; read the current-year rules and schedule as well as historical ranks.
For an incoming 2027 candidate, the 2026-27 counselling ranks are historical evidence only. The 2027-28 JoSAA opening and closing ranks will be produced only after that year's seat-allocation rounds. As of 27 October 2026, no 2027-28 IIT Delhi cutoff is available. Do not treat a 2026 rank as a forecast, and do not compare it without matching category, round, programme and pool. For a current decision, check JoSAA's live notices and 2027 schedule when released, then verify every rank row in the official OR-CR tool.
