IIT Mandi’s undergraduate catalogue covers several four-year B.Tech branches, including Civil, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical, Mechanical, Data Science and Engineering, Engineering Physics, Material Science and Engineering, General Engineering, and Microelectronics and VLSI. It also lists a B.Tech-M.Tech integrated dual degree in Bio-Engineering and an integrated MBA. These names signal different academic commitments: a branch-focused B.Tech, an integrated engineering-research route, or a longer management-oriented pathway. Use the institute’s programme pages and the live JoSAA choice list to check what is actually offered for your year; the presence of a programme on a general catalogue does not establish that it has seats in every allocation cycle. IIT Mandi’s undergraduate programme list is the starting point for comparing degree names and programme links.
For a student deciding between B.Tech branches, the useful comparison is the subject mix and the work you want to do, not a generic claim that one branch is best. Review the linked curriculum, course structure and department information for the exact branch. A specialised title such as Data Science and Engineering or Microelectronics and VLSI may sound close to another programme elsewhere, but names alone do not establish equivalent coursework. Compare required subjects, laboratory or project components, elective flexibility and the degree awarded. For the integrated Bio-Engineering option, confirm the published academic structure and progression rules before comparing it with a four-year B.Tech. Treat integrated MBA as a separate pathway: its admission route and fee category differ from conventional engineering entry.
The most recent fee sheet located for new entrants is for the odd semester of academic year 2026-27 and explicitly applies to the 2026 batch. It is a one-semester amount, not a 2027-28 quote or a four-year cost estimate. For B.Tech/BS/Second Major new entrants in the UR, OBC-NCL and EWS columns, the institute fee total is ₹1,18,000 for that semester. The SC/ST/PwD column shows ₹18,000. The table separates the per-semester institute fee from one-time non-refundable admission charges and a refundable deposit; it states that SC/ST/PH students receive 100% tuition-fee exemption under Government of India norms. These category rows should be read as printed rather than generalized to an individual without checking the applicable category and current rules. The 2026-27 institute fee schedule also has different columns for preparatory students, foreign nationals, postgraduate programmes and I-MBA, so do not copy the B.Tech figure onto another course.
Accommodation and food sit in a separate notice. For the B.Tech/BS and listed related programmes in the 2026-27 odd semester, IIT Mandi shows hostel charges of ₹9,600 and a mess advance of ₹16,884, described as an approximate rate paid through the institute to the vendor according to actuals. The notice also lists a refundable Indian-student mess security deposit of ₹5,000 and annual medical cover of ₹750. A separate amenities notice lists a ₹5,000 campus amenities charge for Indian students in the same semester. Taken together, these published non-institute line items total ₹37,234 for the stated new-entry semester: ₹9,600 + ₹16,884 + ₹5,000 + ₹750 + ₹5,000. This calculation matches the first-semester hostel/mess and facilities total shown on the institute’s 2026 orientation page. It is a reconciliation of listed items, not a guarantee that mess spending will equal the advance or that the same charges apply in a later year. See the new-student hostel and mess schedule, campus amenities schedule, and UG orientation 2026 fee information.
Adding the listed first-semester components gives a gross 2026-27 planning amount of ₹1,55,234 for a UR/OBC-NCL/EWS B.Tech/BS entrant: ₹1,18,000 institute fee plus ₹37,234 hostel, mess and amenity items. The corresponding simple sum using the ₹18,000 SC/ST/PwD institute-fee total is ₹55,234, subject to the candidate’s actual eligibility and the current fee notice. These are not net amounts after JoSAA seat-acceptance adjustments, and the notices may distinguish payment timing, refundable deposits and subsequent reconciliation. Before paying, compare the current institute circular with the candidate portal and read the row for your programme, category and residence status.
Do not multiply one semester’s total by eight to advertise a whole-degree cost. The institute fee sheet is for the 2026 intake and identifies recurring versus one-time components; hostel, mess, amenities, medical cover and academic fees can be revised or billed on different bases. Mess amounts are expressly approximate and charged as per actuals. A refundable security deposit is a cash outlay but not the same as a permanent academic expense. The 2026 notice also distinguishes vacation-category students from non-vacation-category postgraduate and research students; the latter hostel and mess rates must not be substituted for the undergraduate vacation-category row.
The 2026-27 schedule records a full tuition-fee exemption for SC/ST/PH students under the cited Government of India norms. It does not mean that every other component disappears: the table still lists institute registration charges, one-time charges and a refundable deposit, while housing, food and facilities appear on separate sheets. A student relying on a remission should confirm the exact current eligibility, required documents and amount due through IIT Mandi’s official fee and scholarship pages. The institute lists merit-cum-means, institute SC/ST, HTRA and national scholarship routes on its scholarship index, but their applicant conditions and benefits are separate from the general fee table. Do not assume a scholarship award before satisfying the published application and verification process. IIT Mandi scholarships
The 2027-28 entrant fee sheet was not available in the official material checked on 1 November 2026. Use these 2026 batch figures only to understand how the institute separates tuition and registration, one-time charges, refundable deposits, hostel, mess, medical cover and campus amenities. When the next schedule appears, compare the same programme and category rows, identify what changed, and recalculate the first-semester amount from the actual notice. For personal budgeting, keep a separate allowance for travel and other costs not listed in these institutional fee sheets; this page does not estimate them.
