IIT Roorkee’s undergraduate catalogue includes B.Tech and B.Arch programmes, BS-MS and integrated degrees, and B.Des. The 2025 UG ordinance describes programme structures and degree rules, while Academic Affairs maintains a current programme catalogue. For an applicant entering through JoSAA, the seat matrix for the exact year is the decisive list: catalogue availability does not guarantee a seat in every cycle, and programme names, intake and restrictions can change. Use the matrix to check campus, programme title, duration, seat pool and category before creating counselling choices.
The admission route also varies by degree. The common engineering and science route is JEE Advanced followed by JoSAA, but the institute posts B.Des admission information separately; applicants should use that year’s specific notice and eligibility instructions. Degree length matters financially as well as academically: a four-year programme and an integrated five-year programme can have different semester counts and fee tables. Review the current ordinance and curriculum for the branch’s course structure, compulsory requirements and options, then compare those academic details with the course you intend to rank in JoSAA. A broad programme list is a starting point, not a substitute for the latest offer and curriculum.
IIT Roorkee’s official new-entrant fee table for the 2026-27 session covers B.Tech, B.Arch, BS-MS, Integrated M.Tech and B.Des. For a typical Indian General, General-EWS or OBC entrant, the listed tuition is ₹1,00,000 each semester. The table separately lists semester charges of ₹11,300 in Autumn and ₹9,800 in Spring, hostel accommodation and electricity of ₹7,500 per semester, a one-time admission payment of ₹6,000, refundable institute and library deposits totalling ₹3,000 in Autumn, and mess advance plus one-time admission/security charges. On that schedule the stated grand total is ₹1,55,550 for Autumn and ₹1,39,050 for Spring. The mess advance is expressly subject to adjustment against actual food charges, so it is not a guaranteed final food cost.
The same 2026-27 table gives a different tuition and grand total for students whose fee category qualifies for remission: SC/ST/PwD and the listed most economically backward bracket show ₹55,550 Autumn and ₹39,050 Spring; the other economically backward bracket after two-thirds tuition remission shows ₹88,883 and ₹72,383. These totals still include non-tuition items. The PDF is the first-year new-entrant schedule, not a universal figure for every semester or every later-year student. Existing-student tables are separately posted and programme/year-specific. Do not multiply one semester total mechanically by the entire degree: fees, hostel, deposits, mess advances, programme duration and later-year tables may differ.
IIT Roorkee’s 2026-27 Tuition Fee Waiver page sets a full tuition waiver for qualifying applicants with gross annual family income below ₹1 lakh and a two-thirds tuition waiver for income from ₹1 lakh to ₹5 lakh. The cited rules specify eligible categories and JEE Advanced-admitted UG programmes, income measured before tax deductions, normal programme duration and a fourth-year limit for dual-degree students. The application requires supporting identity and income-tax documents and a signed declaration. The page’s stated first-year 2026-27 application deadline was 11 September 2026, so it is past as of this guide’s 27 October 2026 date. Future applicants must wait for the next year’s notice and deadline.
A waiver is not an all-fee exemption. Tuition is one component; semester, medical-insurance, hostel/electricity, deposits, mess admission and food advances are separate rows in the fee table. The table illustrates the consequence: the Autumn 2026-27 total for students in the full-tuition-waiver group remains ₹55,550 because non-tuition charges remain due. A waiver therefore reduces the bill substantially but does not make attendance cost-free. Hostel and mess amounts are also estimates or advances under the document’s own conditions; confirm the bill and current payment schedule before arranging funds.
A useful budget separates amounts by when they are paid and whether they can later be adjusted or refunded. Tuition and semester charges recur; hostel accommodation/electricity recurs for residents; deposits are refundable subject to institute rules; admission and mess-entry fees are one-time; mess advance is reconciled against actual food charges. The 2026-27 document also notes that its hostel accommodation amount is the minimum bachelor-hostel charge and that married accommodation is billed at actuals. It warns that conversion from dining-and-residing to non-dining/non-residing after fee submission may make the accommodation and electricity charge non-refundable. Those details can change the amount a family needs ready at registration.
International applicants should read the distinct foreign-national note. The schedule says listed-country top-ranked entrants may pay tuition at par with Indian students, while other foreign nationals pay 200% of the prescribed Indian tuition; the fee structure index links to the applicable country list. Do not assume an Indian category-based waiver or quoted total automatically applies to an overseas applicant. For 2027-28, IIT Roorkee has not yet posted the corresponding fee schedule in the sources reviewed. Use this 2026-27 table as a planning baseline only, then replace it with the newly posted first-year and existing-student tables. Ask the Student Affairs/Finance contact about an individual bill, and the SCSP office about waiver status, rather than relying on an old screenshot or a third-party calculator.
On IIT Roorkee’s Institute Fees index, select the exact session and the correct table: new entrants versus existing students, then degree/programme and year. For the first-year entrant schedule, confirm the semester, tuition category, residence status, refundable deposits and mess arrangement. Read the notes under the table; totals can include advances and deposits that do not behave like tuition. For continuing students, a degree’s later semester may have a different tuition amount or recurring charge, especially in the final year of an integrated programme.
Financial support is published separately through the Senate Committee for Scholarships and Prizes. A student who appears eligible should check the current announcement, application window, gross-income definition, programme/category rules, required documents and any restriction on combining awards. The 2026-27 waiver rules and amounts in this article are dated; they do not promise an unchanged 2027 award. Before accepting a seat, estimate at least the first-semester cash requirement using the current schedule and ask the institute to clarify any personal category or accommodation question. This avoids treating a headline tuition amount as the total cost of study.
