Read a cutoff as a seat-specific closing rank

JoSAA releases opening and closing ranks for each allotment round. A closing rank records the least favourable rank allotted in that row in that round; it is not a guaranteed threshold for a later cycle. A useful comparison needs the same institute, academic programme, round, quota, seat type and gender pool. An opening rank can also be affected by an early allotment and should not be substituted for the closing rank when estimating the last admitted candidate in that pool.

Rank type matters. JoSAA states that OPEN-seat ranks represent Common Rank List (CRL). EWS, OBC-NCL, SC and ST rows represent their respective category ranks, while PwD ranks are within the respective categories. Do not compare those category ranks directly with an OPEN CRL. Similarly, HS and OS are different quota pools, and Gender-Neutral and Female-only (including supernumerary) are separate seat pools. A number without these labels is not a usable MNIT cutoff figure. MNIT's admission page directs applicants to JoSAA and CSAB for B.Tech/B.Arch. The institute lists separate counselling routes for M.Tech/M.Plan through CCMT and M.Sc through CCMN. These are not JEE Main B.Tech cutoffs, so the example on this page should not be used to estimate those admissions.

The 2026 JoSAA portal is for the 2026-27 admission cycle, and the live OR-CR tool displays ranks after selecting filters. It is useful for applicants in that cycle but does not establish a 2027-28 cutoff. MNIT's admission page links the current 2026 seat matrix, CSAB brochure and JoSAA business rules. How to compare cutoff rows

Use the same-row method for another branch or category: choose the year, round, MNIT programme, HS/OS quota, seat type and gender pool in JoSAA's archive, then compare the opening and closing rank columns. Keep the round fixed. A Round 1 result is not comparable to Round 5, and a JoSAA result should not be combined with a CSAB special-round result as if both came from the same allocation stage. For an estimate, treat previous closing ranks as context for choice filling, not as a promised admission line.

To compare rows, first select the year and allocation round in the OR-CR tool. Then choose the NIT institute type, MNIT Jaipur, and the exact academic programme. Set the seat type or category, quota (HS or OS), and gender pool before recording any number. Keep the opening and closing ranks from the same row together; do not combine a female-only row with a gender-neutral row, or one quota with the other.
