Sudhakarrao Naik Institute of Pharmacy

For students in the Vidarbha region looking for a solid, no-frills pharmacy education, Sudhakarrao Naik Institute of Pharmacy (SNIOP) in Pusad is a name that comes up consistently. Established back in 1983, it’s one of the older private pharmacy colleges in the area, affiliated with Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University. Its recent NAAC B++ grade for 2024 signals a college that’s meeting certain quality benchmarks, even if it doesn’t crack the national NIRF rankings. The story here is straightforward: strong academics and labs, a remote location, and placements that require serious student hustle. It’s a classic case of managing expectations.

Courses and Academic Programs at Sudhakarrao Naik Institute of Pharmacy

SNIOP offers the full ladder, from a 60-seat D.Pharm diploma to a Ph.D. The B.Pharm intake is between 60 to 100 students annually, while the M.Pharm program offers specializations in Pharmaceutics, Pharmacology, Pharmaceutical Quality Assurance, and Industrial Pharmacy, with a total of about 36 seats. The curriculum follows the PCI syllabus and SGBAU's Choice Based Credit System (CBCS).

The faculty is often cited as the institute's core strength. With around 17-25 teaching staff, a significant chunk—maybe 40-50% of the senior professors—hold PhDs. The principal, Dr. Pravin S. Kawtikwar, is a noted researcher in drug delivery. What’s more interesting is the internal culture: roughly half the current teaching staff are SNIOP alumni. That creates a specific kind of environment. It’s supportive and knowledgeable, but also insular. The academic approach is famously strict, with a heavy emphasis on lab attendance and practicals. You won’t slide by here. The labs themselves are a genuine positive—over a dozen of them, equipped with HPLC and tablet punching machines, which is decent for a college in a semi-urban town.

Industry tie-ups exist but feel modest. MoUs with Medisun Pharma and MEB Pharma are for research and training. There’s also a local collaboration with M. S. Papers and Boards for waste management. They’re not the kind of partnerships that guarantee a flood of internships, but they’re something.

SNIOP Placements: Packages, Companies & Reality Check

This is where the brochure narrative and ground reality diverge. Officially, the median package for 2024 was ₹2,87,500. The highest package cited in student circles is 4.5 to 5 LPA, but that’s unverified and likely an outlier. The average sits in the 2.5 to 3 LPA range. Recruiters like Cipla, Sun Pharma, Lupin, and Zydus do visit, alongside IT firms like TCS and Cognizant for pharmacovigilance roles.

But the percentage is the real story. The institute claims 60-70% placement. Scour reviews on platforms like Shiksha and Careers360, and you’ll find a consensus that the on-campus placement rate is much lower. Many, many students end up finding their own off-campus roles in production or QA/QC in clusters like Aurangabad or Nagpur. The college’s remote location in Pusad is a genuine handicap for attracting a large pool of recruiters. The placement cell tries, but the outcome is best described as moderate to challenging. If you’re coming here, plan to network aggressively, consider higher studies, or be ready to relocate for that first job.

Fees and Financial Aid at SNIOP

For the 2024-25 academic year, the B.Pharm tuition fee hovers between ₹90,000 to ₹1,05,000 per annum, depending on the student's category as per Maharashtra government norms. M.Pharm fees range from ₹50,000 to ₹95,000. Add in hostel and mess, and the total 4-year cost for a B.Pharm is estimated at ₹4.5 to ₹5.5 lakhs.

That’s not a trivial sum, but financial aid is available through state schemes. Scholarships for SC/ST/OBC/EBC and Minority students are accessible via the MahaDBT portal, offering full or partial tuition fee waivers. The Tuition Fee Waiver Scheme (TFWS) is also an option for high-scoring students, which explains the 91+ percentile cutoff for that seat category.

Admissions: Eligibility, Cutoffs & Selection Process

Admission is centralized through the DTE Maharashtra CAP process. For B.Pharm, the primary entrance exam is MHT-CET, though NEET scores are also accepted. For M.Pharm, it’s GPAT or MHT-CET.

The MHT-CET 2024 cutoffs give a clear picture of the competition level:

• General/Open Category: ~83 - 86 percentile.
• OBC: ~78 - 82 percentile.
• SC/ST: ~57 - 77 percentile.
• TFWS Seats: ~91 - 93 percentile.

An 83-86 percentile for General seats isn’t intensely competitive compared to top metro colleges, but it shows SNIOP draws a serious crowd from the region. The application window typically runs from June to August.

Campus, Hostels and Student Life

The infrastructure is functional. The library has over 4,400 books and some journals. The campus is Wi-Fi enabled, though students often note the speed can be limited. Sports facilities are shared with the larger JSPM campus—there’s a big playground for cricket and volleyball.

Hostel life has a gender divide. The girls' hostel is on-campus and well-maintained. For boys, it’s different. The primary on-campus hostel is for girls; boys typically get placed in off-campus private PGs or the hostel attached to the affiliated engineering college. Mess food provides standard Maharashtrian meals.

And then there’s Pusad. It’s a semi-urban town. The nearest major railway stations are Washim (65 km) and Akola (110 km). Nagpur is about 250 km away. This remoteness defines the social life, or relative lack thereof. There are very few major fests or cultural events. The focus is overwhelmingly academic. That’s either a pro or a con, depending on what you’re after.

Student Reviews: What SNIOP Alumni Really Think

Synthesizing feedback from CollegeDunia, Shiksha, and Quora reveals a clear, almost unanimous consensus.

The praise is consistent: “The college is very strict about attendance and practicals.” The faculty is repeatedly called helpful and knowledgeable. The labs are praised as being better equipped than many in the district. For a local student with a scholarship, it’s frequently tagged as “value for money.” One typical quote sums it up: “If you want to study and get a degree with good knowledge, come here.”

The criticisms are just as consistent. Placement promises are viewed with skepticism. The location is seen as a barrier to industrial exposure. Social life is quiet. Some mention administrative delays. The other part of that student quote is telling: “If you want a high-paying job handed to you on a platter, you might be disappointed.”

Verdict: Is Sudhakarrao Naik Institute of Pharmacy Worth It?

SNIOP is a specific proposition. It’s absolutely worth it if you’re a student from the Vidarbha or Marathwada region prioritizing a strong, disciplined pharmacy foundation at a relatively affordable cost, especially with a state scholarship. The B++ NAAC grade and experienced, approachable faculty are real assets. However, you must enter with eyes wide open. The remote location limits campus recruitment and industry immersion. Securing a job will largely be your own responsibility, often requiring relocation. It’s not the college for someone seeking a vibrant campus life or expecting top-tier companies to queue up at the gate. For the right student—one focused on core academics and willing to be proactive about their career—SNIOP delivers a respectable education. For others, the limitations might be too significant.
