MHT-CET is Maharashtra’s state Common Entrance Test for several undergraduate technical and agriculture programmes. It is run by the State Common Entrance Test Cell, Government of Maharashtra. The name does not describe one universal admission route: applicants choose a subject group, and then apply through a course-specific admissions process. MHT-CET scores are used for eligible courses, while the Centralized Admission Process (CAP) later creates merit lists, publishes seat matrices and allotment results, and applies Maharashtra candidature, All India and course-specific rules. A test percentile is not a college cutoff and does not itself secure a seat.
As checked on 27 October 2026, the latest completed and documented examination/admission cycle is Academic Year 2026-27. The official Cell lists the MHT-CET 2026 brochures, results and examination notices, and the engineering and pharmacy CAP portals still expose their 2026-27 records. There is no basis here to state a 2027 exam date, application fee, syllabus change or admission rule as confirmed. Treat references to 2026 below as historical rules and planning evidence. For the next cycle, wait for the new brochure and the individual CAP portal for the exact course.
The 2026 examination offered Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM), Physics, Chemistry and Biology (PCB), or both. The official brochure says candidates could select one or both groups; marks from one group are not transferred to the other. This distinction matters more than simply choosing the group that matches a school subject. The relevant course authority states which group it accepts, and some degrees accept more than one route.
For engineering and technology, PCM is the central route. The technical brochure covers first-year B.E./B.Tech and specified technical programmes such as B.Planning, integrated M.E./M.Tech, Pharm.D postgraduate and integrated M.Planning courses. It also describes admission eligibility for selected technology disciplines through PCB, but that does not mean PCB can replace PCM for every engineering degree. Check both the course eligibility and the current CAP brochure before assuming you qualify.
Pharmacy and agriculture have their own distinctions. B.Pharmacy and Pharm.D admissions use the applicable PCM/PCB eligibility conditions in the technical rules and have a separate pharmacy CAP portal. Agriculture and allied programmes have a distinct brochure and CAP process. For 2026, the agriculture brochure required both groups for certain listed programmes, PCM only for B.Tech Agriculture Engineering, and PCB only for Forestry and Fisheries Science. Those are course-level examples from that cycle, not a blanket rule for all biology-related degrees. A student targeting more than one field should map each course to its required group before registering.
MHT-CET is also not the medical-school entrance exam. It is unsafe to assume a PCB score substitutes for NEET in MBBS or other health programmes governed by NEET-based rules. Likewise, MAH MBA/MMS CET is a separate examination; the similar “MAH” naming and adjacent notices on the Cell’s website do not make it part of MHT-CET. Confirm the precise exam and course name in the relevant official brochure.
The 2026 examination was computer based, conducted in Maharashtra, and divided into subject papers for the selected group. The brochure allowed candidates to choose English, Marathi or Urdu for Physics, Chemistry and Biology; it cautioned that the language selection could not be changed after submission. The official 2026 syllabus document says questions follow the Maharashtra State Council of Educational Research and Training curriculum, with approximately 20% weight from Std. XI and 80% from Std. XII. It states there is no negative marking. Mathematics difficulty was described as at par with JEE Main, Physics and Chemistry likewise, and Biology at par with NEET, with questions mainly application based. These statements describe the 2026 documents; any revised 2027 pattern must come from a later official notice.
Use the syllabus to decide what to study, not an unofficial chapter-weightage chart. The official weighting is an approximate class-level split, not a promise that each chapter receives a fixed share. Build a checklist from the published subject topics and mark each item as not studied, understood, practised or retained under timed conditions. Keep Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology work separate because selecting a group does not merge their scores. If planning across both groups, include the additional time and separate practice needed for each set of papers.
The absence of negative marking in the 2026 syllabus changes guessing strategy compared with exams that penalize wrong answers, but it does not make blind guessing a preparation plan. First use elimination, dimensional checks, estimates and known facts; then ensure you do not accidentally leave answerable questions blank. Practice with the CBT interface and the actual time structure published for the cycle, because a good subject score can be lost through pacing, navigation mistakes or late submission. Do not assume that timing and number of attempts stay unchanged in 2027.
MHT-CET results use percentile scores. A percentile describes relative position among candidates in a session: the official methodology calculates it from candidates whose raw score is equal to or below a candidate’s score, divided by the total candidates in that session and multiplied by 100. It is not the percentage of questions answered correctly. A 90 percentile does not mean 90% marks, and a percentile is not a fixed conversion from marks that can be applied across every shift or year.
The Cell’s 2026 result-processing document describes distribution across sessions and normalization. Since candidates take the test in multiple sessions, the same raw marks can have a different percentile depending on the session’s score distribution. The methodology aims to account for session variation; it does not turn percentile into a guarantee of admission. Use the official scorecard for the authoritative result and the course’s CAP merit list for the relevant admission rank. Avoid calculator sites that claim a single permanent marks-to-percentile or percentile-to-college mapping.
A further distinction is needed between examination score and seat allotment. An exam result reports performance. CAP eligibility and merit depend on the course-specific rules, candidature documents, qualifying examination, category and quota, available seats, preferences and round. For example, engineering CAP publishes Maharashtra State and All India merit lists and round-wise closing cutoffs. A percentile associated with an institution and branch in one round is therefore a historical outcome for a particular seat pool, not an official minimum score that guarantees the next applicant a seat.
For a new cycle, the process starts with the State CET Cell’s current examination notice and information brochure. Read the group descriptions and course eligibility first, create an application account through the official exam portal, enter identity and academic information exactly as supported by your records, choose the applicable group and language, select permitted examination preferences, upload documents in the announced format, and pay the fee shown in the live notice. Save the application number and a copy of the submitted form and payment confirmation. Do not use a fee amount, deadline or upload specification copied from a previous cycle as if it were current.
The 2026 brochure included separate fee amounts according to group, attempt and candidate category. Fees and late-fee windows were cycle-specific. If you are eligible for a concession, read the definition and document timing in the brochure; a category choice in the examination form does not automatically complete CAP verification. Keep the original certificates and check whether any certificate must be issued in a Maharashtra government format or be valid by a specified date. This is especially important for claims involving caste, non-creamy layer, EWS, disability, domicile or candidature type.
After registration, monitor the official portal for form correction notices, admit-card availability, test dates and objection-tracking windows. The 2026 brochure states that an allocated exam centre could not be changed and that objections to questions had to be submitted within the announced tracking schedule. Follow the current instructions carefully, capture the relevant question and response details if the portal allows, and retain the objection receipt. A late or unofficial social-media report cannot substitute for the official deadline.
After the result is announced, download the scorecard from the candidate login and verify the name, group, attempt and score. Then move to the admission portal for the desired programme. CAP usually requires a separate registration, document verification or scrutiny, choice filling, seat acceptance and institute reporting sequence. The exact actions and dates differ by course and year; engineering, pharmacy and agriculture do not share one combined counselling calendar. A candidate who has a valid MHT-CET result but does not complete the separate CAP steps can miss admission consideration.
CAP is the admission mechanism for the courses covered by each authority’s brochure. The engineering portal publishes Maharashtra State and All India merit lists, seat matrices, allotment status, round cutoffs, institute information, fee approvals and notices. The pharmacy portal separately lists its merit records, seat matrices, round cutoffs and institution intake. Agriculture has its own programme and admission material. Start at the appropriate portal, then follow the current course brochure rather than searching by a generic “MHT-CET counselling” label.
An institute list is a starting point for research, not a promise of availability. Compare the exact course name, institute code, university affiliation, status, intake, location and fee approval for the intended year. The same college may have multiple branches or choice codes, and a campus name alone may not reveal the seat pool. Check whether the page concerns CAP, institutional quota or vacancies after CAP; these routes can have different application instructions. Apply only through the route stated by the authority or institution for that seat.
When comparing cutoffs, record programme, institute code, round, category, candidature or quota pool, gender pool if used, and the measure reported. A Maharashtra State closing rank and an All India closing rank are not interchangeable. Closing ranks from different rounds or seat types cannot be blended into one threshold. Use previous-year lists to understand competition and build a range of options, but do not treat the last admitted candidate’s rank as a forecast. Seats, preferences and candidate scores change each year.
A practical choice list balances aspiration with credible alternatives. Include programmes whose fees, location, language, academic content and outcomes suit you, not only institutions with a familiar name. Verify whether a branch is approved and active, whether the course is the exact credential you want, and how the college reports fees and outcomes. Keep a saved copy of each option form before locking it. During allotment, read the round-specific rules for acceptance, betterment, freeze, float or reporting before clicking; a choice can affect later eligibility.
In the absence of a 2027 notification, prepare what is stable and reserve decisions that depend on new rules. Review the latest official syllabus and strengthen Std. XI and XII foundations, then solve timed, subject-specific sets and inspect mistakes. Keep a folder for identity, school records and any category or domicile certificates, but confirm validity and formats against the next brochure before submitting. Make a course map with columns for programme, required group, eligible exam route, CAP portal, documents and application status.
Set announcement checks instead of inventing dates. The State CET Cell’s MHT-CET page is the primary place for the examination brochure and notices. The relevant CAP portal is the primary place for counselling schedules, seat matrices, merit lists and allotments. Once a new brochure appears, compare it with the prior cycle for changes to eligibility, group choice, pattern, fee, test cities, attempt options and result methodology. Record the document date and version, because a revised brochure or corrigendum can replace an earlier instruction.
Use official portals for decisions that cost money or affect eligibility. Coaching sites and rank predictors can help generate study ideas, but their dates, fees, cutoffs and course mappings need independent confirmation. If two official notices appear inconsistent, use the later notice for its stated scope and contact the Cell or programme authority through the listed helpdesk. Keep evidence of submitted forms, payments, objections, document verification and seat acceptance. MHT-CET planning becomes much more manageable once the exam, score and admissions route are treated as three connected but distinct steps.

MHT-CET, recorded source/content edition 2026-27. Source facts checked in the saved October 2026 research; no later-cycle rule is asserted. PCM has 150 questions in 180 minutes; Physics and Chemistry are one mark per question and Mathematics is two marks per question. PCB has 200 questions in 180 minutes, with one mark per question across Physics, Chemistry and Biology. The 2026 brochure states that there is no negative marking in either group. The official result methodology normalizes scores across sessions and says percentile is not percentage of marks or an average of subject percentiles.
