BUMS admission: eligibility, counselling and how to verify a route
Admission to Bachelor of Unani Medicine and Surgery (BUMS) has two distinct parts: qualifying for the course and obtaining a seat through the authority that handles the relevant quota. For the 2026 examination cycle, candidates needed to qualify NEET (UG)-2026 for the undergraduate ASU&H route. Seat allocation then depended on the institution, seat type and counselling authority. AACCC’s 2026-27 page describes its specified All India Quota (AIQ) streams; state authorities handle other categories. Use the current official bulletin and seat matrix for the exact college rather than assuming every BUMS seat uses one portal. (NEET (UG)-2026 Information Bulletin, Chapter 9; AACCC UG Counseling)
Step 1: establish course eligibility
Before registering for counselling, compare the candidate’s records with the BUMS-specific rules in NCISM’s 2022 undergraduate Unani regulation. The main route requires recognised 10+2 or equivalent study with Physics, Chemistry and Biology, the specified category-based combined marks, and a compliant language route. The regulation requires Urdu, Arabic or Persian in Class 10 or 12, with a defined first-professional alternative for those who did not study one of the languages at the specified stage. It also sets a minimum age of 17 by 31 December of the admission year. The NEET result, school subjects and marks, language proof and age are separate conditions; check all of them. (NCISM regulation, Regulation 4)
The course regulation has a separate Pre-Tib pathway for candidates with listed Oriental qualifications. Do not treat Pre-Tib as an informal exception to the direct BUMS requirements. If considering that route, confirm the exact qualification, institution and current process with NCISM and the admitting authority. (NCISM regulation, Regulations 4-5)
Step 2: read the cycle-specific NEET bulletin
The NEET bulletin states the exam eligibility, qualifying percentile, application and result procedures for its examination year. Its 2026 edition identifies BUMS among the undergraduate ASU&H courses and sets cycle-specific requirements. A qualifying percentile is a threshold for eligibility to participate; it is not a promised admission score or a closing cutoff. Actual allotment depends on the candidate’s rank, choices, category, seat matrix, round and applicable reservation rules. A previous year’s closing rank cannot guarantee a seat in the next cycle. For a later application year, use the new NTA bulletin instead of carrying forward 2026 dates or procedures. (NEET (UG)-2026 Information Bulletin)
Candidates should preserve the application number, confirmation page, admit card, scorecard and any correction-window confirmation. Verify name, date of birth, category and other identifying details against school and identity records as the bulletin instructs. If a correction period is announced, use only the official NTA portal and within the published window. Do not rely on a third-party message claiming that a document can be changed after the deadline.
Step 3: identify the seat and counselling authority
As a dated 2026-27 example, AACCC’s page identified counselling for specified AIQ seats in Government and Government-aided institutions, Deemed Universities, Central Universities and National Institutes for listed ASU&H courses, including BUMS. The NEET bulletin assigns other seats to the relevant State or Union Territory authority and describes the applicable private-institution route. These categories matter: a college name alone is not enough to tell you which portal, reservation rule, fee schedule or reporting process applies. Check the latest notice for the selected institution and the exact quota before registering. (AACCC UG Counseling; NEET (UG)-2026 Information Bulletin)
For AACCC, consult the live UG counselling page and the information-bulletin index. The revised 2026-27 schedule published on 26 October 2026 added stray-vacancy dates. This is a dated cycle example, not a live deadline for later years; check the latest official notice before acting. The official index listed a 2026-27 bulletin, but its PDF did not load in this research session, so this guide does not quote its payment amounts or unverified procedural clauses. (AACCC UG Counseling; AACCC UG information-bulletin index; AACCC revised 2026-27 schedule, published 26 October 2026)
Step 4: verify the college and seat before choice filling
Use the authority’s current seat matrix and participating-institution information to confirm the exact college, course, quota and intake. Check the relevant NCISM permission for the academic year and the institution’s affiliation. A college appearing in an old list is not evidence that it has a seat in the current round. Likewise, a BUMS course page on a college website may describe the programme generally but not establish a current sanctioned intake. (AACCC participating institutes; NCISM undergraduate Unani regulations)
Make a choice list only after checking the fee notice and location. Keep recurring tuition, one-time charges, hostel, mess, examination costs and refundable deposits separate. Read the withdrawal and forfeiture conditions in the bulletin before paying. Counselling registration charges or security deposits are not tuition, and a displayed annual fee should not be multiplied by the full 5.5-year programme without confirming the billing schedule and internship-year treatment.
Documents and reporting
The exact list and format are set by the current counselling authority, but applicants should be ready to provide the NEET scorecard, 10+2 certificate and marks, Class 10 record for age and language evidence, category or disability certificate where applicable, and identity and photograph documents. The candidate should confirm whether originals, certified copies, prescribed formats or online uploads are required. Keep a copy of every submitted document and receipt. A missing or mismatched certificate can delay verification even when the academic condition itself is satisfied.
After allotment, follow the reporting instructions and deadline shown for the round. Confirm the institution and campus on the allotment letter, complete document verification, obtain a written breakdown of payable charges, and understand whether the seat must be accepted, upgraded or reported in person. If an allotment is surrendered or the candidate seeks a later round, use the current rules on resignation, security refund and forfeiture; do not infer them from a previous-year bulletin.
A short decision checklist
- Confirm PCB subjects, category-specific marks, language route and minimum age under the current BUMS rules.
- Qualify in the NEET examination for the intended admission year and retain the official scorecard.
- Identify whether the target seat is AACCC AIQ, state/UT, or another explicitly described category.
- Match the current seat matrix and NCISM permission to the exact college, course and intake.
- Check fees, documents, dates, reporting and withdrawal rules from the current authority notices.
This describes the official 2026 and 2026-27 evidence reviewed for this page; it does not predict a later cycle or determine an individual applicant’s eligibility. Where the notice, seat category or equivalence is unclear, obtain a written answer from the responsible counselling authority before making a payment or submitting choices.
