The route from exam to enrolment
BDS admission is a sequence rather than a single test result. A student checks eligibility, applies for NEET-UG, sits the exam, checks the result, registers for the counselling authority that administers the desired seat, fills choices, follows allotment rounds and reports with required documents. Each stage has its own notices and deadlines. Missing a counselling registration or reporting window can matter even when the candidate has qualified in NEET.
Use the current National Testing Agency information bulletin for the exam application, qualifying subjects and result rules. The NEET-UG 2026 bulletin applies to that year, not a future calendar. For 2026 counselling, the MCC revised UG counselling bulletin is dated 20 August 2026. Check later notices and corrigenda before acting because schedules and seat information can change during a cycle.
Identify who administers the seat
MCC and state authorities run different seat pools. The applicable route depends on the college, quota, state and candidate category. Central institutions, deemed universities, state-government colleges and private colleges can appear in different counselling processes. Find the exact BDS campus in the official seat matrix, verify the quota and read the associated information bulletin. A college admission page may explain its own process but cannot replace authority rules for registration, eligibility or allotment.
Current schedules are cycle-bound. Verify the registration window, choice-filling dates, locking rules, allotment publication, reporting deadline and eligibility for each round. MCC notices show only the relevant MCC process; state counselling schedules are published separately. Do not use a last-year deadline, forwarded image or unofficial “vacancy” message as proof that applications remain open. Some round rules may limit participation after joining, declining or failing to report. Read the current terms before accepting a seat or choosing another round.
Make a usable choice list
For each college, record the official name and campus, seat quota and category, counselling authority, recognition status, tuition period and extra charges, location, reporting requirements and hostel assumptions. Keep a copy of the relevant seat matrix and fee schedule. Order choices according to genuine preference and affordability. Historical closing ranks can help frame a range, but they cannot guarantee an allotment because seat availability and the applicant pool change.
Before locking choices, confirm category documents, domicile eligibility, deposits and refund terms. Avoid listing an option the candidate would not join or cannot afford without understanding what an allotment would require. Save the final choice list and acknowledgement. If the meaning of an upgrade or resignation rule is unclear, ask the counselling authority in writing rather than relying on informal advice.
Documents and reporting
Authorities may request NEET result documents, date-of-birth proof, Class 12 marksheets, identity records, category or disability documents if applicable, photographs, counselling registration and allotment papers. Candidates with international or equivalent school qualifications may need equivalence evidence. This is a preparation list, not the final checklist. Follow the live notice for document names, upload format and originals required at reporting.
At reporting, confirm the location and time, payment method, original-document verification, medical forms and undertakings. Get receipts for payments and document submission. Compare each amount requested with the official schedule. Do not transfer money to an agent or personal account on a promise to reserve a seat. Resolve a discrepancy through official contact details and retain the reply.
Institution-specific details
The official MAHE page for MCODS Manipal includes BDS qualification and admission information. It also contains a future NEET 2027 statement that specifically refers to MBBS. Do not read that MBBS sentence as a BDS requirement. Check the BDS-specific part of the page together with NTA and counselling notices. One institution's eligibility criteria are not national rules.
The same page lists total programme fees for 2026 admissions and says the 2027 structure will be updated later. Use the figures only for that named course, category and year. Confirm the full charges, refund policy and hostel costs before ranking options. Scholarships can have conditions and should not be assumed until confirmed in writing.
After an allotment
Follow the allotment letter exactly. Verify joining deadline, documents, fees and what happens if the candidate accepts, upgrades, resigns or does not report. Read whether a later round affects the current seat or deposit. Save the admission confirmation and all receipts. For later cycles, return to official NTA, MCC and state portals for new schedules; this guide is a process map, not a live seat or vacancy report.
Keep the counselling record organised
Create a dated folder for the actual cycle. Save the NTA bulletin, application confirmation, fee receipt, admit card, scorecard, counselling registration, choice list, allotment letter, document checklist and every reporting receipt. Use the same spelling and identity details across records. If the candidate's category, domicile or board documents need correction, learn the official correction process and deadline before choice filling.
For each round, note the authority, start and end times, eligible candidate group, choices allowed and consequences of accepting or not accepting an allotment. A revised schedule can replace a prior date, so mark the latest official notice and preserve its PDF. When the candidate receives a seat, compare the allotment letter to the college and category selected. Confirm the reporting venue and account details from the official portal, not an unsolicited message.
Counselling fees, security deposits and college tuition can be paid to different recipients. Record each amount separately and understand refund conditions before sending payment. If a refund depends on resignation by a specific event or date, keep proof of submission. Where the candidate has a pending equivalence or category document, contact the authority early and retain the written instruction. This preparation reduces errors but cannot change eligibility or guarantee an allotment.
