Company Secretary course eligibility: CSEET and direct entry
Eligibility for the ICSI Company Secretary pathway depends on the entry route. A typical school-leaver route is CSEET followed by Executive registration. ICSI also permits specified categories to register directly for Executive without CSEET. These are professional-course requirements, not B.Com admission criteria or eligibility for a common university entrance test. Use the current ICSI FAQ, registration portal and examination notice to confirm your document category and timing. ICSI Student Services FAQ, updated 10 April 2026, ICSI Registration Process.
CSEET registration eligibility
ICSI’s FAQ says only Indian nationals may apply for the restructured CSEET. A candidate who has passed or is appearing in Senior Secondary (10+2) or its equivalent can register. Registration eligibility is distinct from requirements to sit the examination, confirm school completion and enter Executive. Read the portal instructions for each step. The revised CSEET began in June 2026 after the January 2026 final sitting under the former remote-proctored format. Older guidance may describe a different examination mode or pattern. ICSI FAQ, ICSI restructuring announcement.
Candidates registered under the new structure must complete the Student Induction Programme requirements. The April 2026 FAQ also gives a defined validity period for the CSEET registration and a separate validity period for passing results. These are two different clocks. Check the result date and the deadline for joining Executive rather than assuming a pass remains usable indefinitely. Preserve the result and portal confirmation.
Direct Executive registration without CSEET
ICSI lists direct-entry categories including candidates who passed ICSI Foundation, graduates and postgraduates, candidates who passed ICAI Intermediate or ICMAI Final, certain final-year or final-semester undergraduate candidates under provisional registration, and specified candidates who have passed or are appearing in the sixth semester of a recognized five-year integrated programme. Provisional categories have conditions for later proof. The FAQ’s stage wording matters: simply studying CA, CMA or another course does not automatically qualify. ICSI Student Services FAQ.
ICAI and ICMAI are separate institutes. ICSI’s exemption refers to a specified pass stage from each; it does not merge their qualifications or provide a universal exemption for all commerce credentials. A graduate should provide the degree and marks evidence that ICSI requires. An integrated-programme candidate should verify the university, programme recognition and semester condition. If an award or institution is foreign or otherwise unusual, request ICSI’s determination before payment.
Documents and provisional status
Prepare identity, nationality and academic documents in the format requested by the live application portal. Depending on route, this may include date-of-birth proof, Class XII evidence, degree certificates, marksheets, professional examination pass certificates or integrated-programme records. The current portal determines accepted documents; do not assume that a screenshot, coaching letter or student ID substitutes for an official certificate. Check name spelling across identity and academic records before submission.
After applying, check that ICSI accepted the registration, assigned the correct route and syllabus, recorded the fee and cleared any deficiency. A successful payment alone does not prove that an exemption or provisional condition has been accepted. Save written status and deadlines for outstanding proof. If the portal lists an unexpected syllabus or route, pause before enrolling in an examination and ask ICSI to reconcile the record.
Syllabus and transition conditions
The CSEET transition affects candidates by registration date. ICSI made the revised test applicable to registrations from 16 December 2025, with the first revised exam in June 2026. Candidates who passed the old-format January 2026 sitting have a stated transition period for Executive registration. Direct-entry candidates use a different path. These distinctions cannot be resolved from a generic course title; use the date and stage in the student’s actual record. ICSI FAQ, 10 April 2026, ICSI CSEET portal.
Students registered under the previous CS syllabus have separate switchover and paper-exemption rules. A previously passed paper may be credited only according to ICSI’s official transition table. Keep old registration and result statements, consult current notices and do not infer one-to-one equivalency from similar paper names. ICSI New Syllabus 2022, ICSI Important Notifications.
What is not a universal requirement
Commerce is not the only educational background represented in ICSI’s routes. Do not assume a particular Class XII subject combination or percentage threshold applies to every route unless the current ICSI rule says so. Similarly, do not treat CUET, CLAT or a university admission exam as a universal CS entrance test. CSEET belongs to ICSI’s professional course; direct Executive registration is an exemption route. A university may separately require an entrance test for its degree programme.
This evergreen page refers to the April 2026 FAQ and June 2026 restructuring as dated sources, not an open registration announcement. Eligibility can change by Council decision, exam session or candidate category. Before payment, verify the current rule and written status in ICSI’s portal. For an unusual degree or provisional case, seek a formal response rather than relying on another student’s experience.
