Start with the named programme
Most MBA-HR programmes require an undergraduate degree, but minimum duration, aggregate marks, accepted equivalence, final-year conditions and category rules vary. Check the prospectus for the exact degree and entry year. A minimum-mark statement is not enough: verify how grades or CGPA are converted, which marksheets count, how backlogs are treated and when the completed degree must be awarded. Prior HR work experience is not a universal prerequisite, although some admissions processes consider relevant experience in shortlisting or final ranking.
Two current examples, two thresholds
IGNOU’s July 2026 Common Prospectus lists a bachelor’s degree of at least three years with 50% marks, reduced to 45% for candidates in the stated reserved categories, for its MBAHM programme. XIM University’s MBA-HRM 2027 page lists a recognised bachelor’s degree of minimum three-year duration with at least 55% aggregate. It also allows final-year candidates if they complete degree requirements by 15 June 2027. Neither threshold applies to every MBA-HR provider.
The XIM page lists the deadline as 15 December 2026 but also displays conflicting online-application status text. Confirm that the portal is accepting applications and check the latest notice before paying. An old brochure, a third-party listing or a past batch’s marks threshold may not match the current intake.
Entrance tests and experience are separate questions
XIM’s 2027 route accepts at least one of XAT, CAT, GMAT, NMAT or XGMT. Candidates register separately for tests where required; XIM says its own XGMT is selected through the institutional application. IIM Ranchi’s 2026-28 policy used CAT with a profile score and personal interview. These examples show why “MBA HR entrance exam” is not one national test. Check the accepted test list, valid score year, sectional cut-offs, application dates and whether a separate university form is needed.
If you have work experience, find out whether the programme uses it as an eligibility requirement, a shortlisting factor, a merit-score component or merely background information. IIM Ranchi’s 2026-28 policy gave a defined bonus to candidates in a specified full-time experience range; it did not make that experience a universal eligibility condition. Verify the current policy and documentary proof rules.
Eligibility self-check before applying
Make a one-page check against the official notice: degree name and awarding institution; minimum degree length; marks formula; category or equivalence documents; final-year completion deadline; entrance-test registration and accepted score period; and any work-experience proof. Ask the admissions office about a foreign degree, distance degree, professional qualification or changed name on academic records before submission. Keep the written answer and current prospectus. Do not assume that eligibility for one MBA-HR programme establishes eligibility at another.
