Application route for UGC-NET December 2026
UGC-NET applications are submitted online through the official NTA portal, ugcnet.nta.nic.in. For the December 2026 cycle, the original closing date of 28 October was extended by an NTA notice dated 27 October to 31 October 2026 at 11:50 p.m. IST for the online form and examination-fee transaction. This page records a specific historical-cycle deadline, not a 2027 application schedule. The NTA portal and notice board remain the places to check for any later change.
Before opening the form
Read the December 2026 Information Bulletin and application-form replica first. Confirm that you meet the relevant degree route, choose the NET subject that matches your postgraduate subject or the permitted related-subject route, and decide your result-category goal. The bulletin describes the application as an online process through Meri Pehchaan single sign-on. Register with your own email address and mobile number because NTA uses them for login and cycle communications.
Prepare the details and files the bulletin asks for: personal and contact information, date of birth, category and disability details where applicable, qualifying-degree information, exam-city preferences, a live photograph, a recent photograph, signature and any required certificate. The current bulletin specifies a recent photograph of 10–200 KB, signature of 10–50 KB and a clear disability/UDID certificate PDF of 50–300 KB where relevant. A live photograph is captured during form filling. The bulletin says the face should be clearly visible, including ears, against a light background. Use your own documents and ensure they match official identity records; NTA warns that false or mismatched material can be treated as unfair means.
For OBC-NCL, check the Central List referenced in the bulletin. A state-list OBC status that is not in the Central List should not be entered as OBC-NCL. For PwD/PwBD status, enter the correct status and upload the required UDID or certificate documentation. The bulletin states that a disability verification mismatch may need correction in the correction window and that claims after its close will not be entertained. Do not wait until after submitting to find that the certificate or category is wrong.
Submit, pay and confirm
The practical sequence in the bulletin is:
- Register using your own email and mobile number and retain the login details.
- Complete the online form, create and note the system-generated application number, choose the subject and enter personal, qualification, category and city details.
- Upload the required photograph, signature and supporting certificates in the specified file formats and sizes.
- Pay the applicable examination fee using the payment modes shown by NTA.
- Download and save the confirmation page after successful payment. The bulletin says the form is not complete until the application information and fee transaction are both complete.
If the payment is debited but the confirmation page is missing, check the payment status with the bank or gateway and follow the bulletin’s helpdesk steps. Do not assume a debit alone confirms a submitted application. The bulletin says failed or duplicate transactions are reconciled; if NTA has not recorded a successful payment, the applicant may need to complete payment again. Keep the payment receipt and confirmation page.
For December 2026, the base fee is ₹1,150 for General/Unreserved, ₹600 for General-EWS and OBC-NCL, and ₹325 for SC, ST, Third Gender, PwD and PwBD. Service or processing charges and GST are extra. The 27 October NTA notice extends the application and fee transaction deadline through 31 October 2026 without a late fee; it supersedes the bulletin’s initial late-fee calendar for this extension period. NTA fees are not a university application fee or PhD application charge.
Choose cities carefully and use the correction window
The December 2026 bulletin asks candidates to choose four examination cities in order of preference. It limits choices to the state of permanent or present address, with a limited exception where fewer than four cities are available. NTA says it will try to allot a preferred city, but administrative or logistical reasons may lead to a different city, and its city-allotment decision is final. Select practical options, not just the most popular city. City preference is not a guarantee of a particular test centre.
The bulletin schedules the 2026 correction window for 2–4 November, up to 11:50 p.m. NTA’s 27 October notice extends the application close to 31 October; it does not erase the separate correction window. Review permitted edits and use that window to fix an eligible error. The bulletin cautions that details including name, contact information, category, disability status, educational qualification, date of birth and city preferences are treated as final after correction closes, subject to NTA’s permitted fields. It does not promise that every field can be changed. Follow the correction notice for the actual editable fields and any fee.
Common failure points and final checks
A partially completed form is not a confirmed application. Missing payment, an invalid upload, incorrect category, unverified qualification information or a mistaken email/mobile number can create problems later. Keep the login, application number, payment proof and confirmation page in a safe place. Revisit the portal and registered email regularly, especially before city-intimation and admit-card dates.
After NTA issues the admit card, check your subject, centre, date and shift against what you selected. If the card has a personal-detail, photo or signature discrepancy, the bulletin directs candidates to contact the help line promptly; it says to appear with the already downloaded admit card while the correction is handled. Carry an authorised photo ID. An admit card is provisional and does not by itself confirm that the candidate’s eligibility has been finally accepted.
For the December 2026 cycle, the bulletin gives a 2–4 November correction window, city intimation on 23 November, an admit-card date of 7 December and examination dates of 14–18 and 21 December. The date, shift and centre for an individual are governed by the admit card. No 2027 fee, application period, upload rule or correction window is established here. For a future cycle, use that cycle’s live portal, bulletin and later official notices rather than reusing this checklist’s dated values.
