IISER IAT 2026 dates: application, exam, result and counselling timeline
IISER IAT dates are announced by the Joint Admissions Committee for a specific admission cycle. The latest confirmed calendar in the official materials reviewed here is for IAT 2026. Every date below is historical: the 2026 application, test and counselling windows have ended. I could not verify an official 2027 schedule, so do not shift these dates forward by a year or use them to plan a future application.
IAT 2026 important dates at a glance
The official dates page labels the offer-round calendar tentative. It listed nine rounds: Round 1 from 24–28 July; Round 2 from 1–5 August; Round 3 from 10–13 August; Round 4 from 18–20 August; Round 5 from 24–26 August; Round 6 from 28–30 August; Round 7 from 1–3 September; Round 8 from 5–7 September; and Round 9 from 9–11 September 2026. The corresponding payment and withdrawal cutoffs were time-specific, usually at 5 pm IST, with some rounds opening at noon. Treat the portal timestamps as controlling rather than relying on a date-only list.
How the application and test dates fit together
The application deadline came almost eight weeks before the test. That gap mattered for more than revision: applicants needed to check their eligibility, choose the right passing-year option, prepare category or identity documents where applicable, and confirm that the submitted form and payment were complete. The 2026 correction window was a limited opportunity to fix permitted information; it should not be assumed that every field could be changed or that a later cycle will use the same process.
The 2026 hall ticket was scheduled for release on 24 May, about two weeks before the examination. Candidates should use an admit card to verify their name, test centre, reporting time and permitted items. For any future cycle, wait for the current official notice: the exam date, city-allocation process and hall-ticket release can change. Do not travel based on a prior-year city list or a coaching-site calendar.
IAT 2026 took place on 7 June from 9 am to noon IST. The provisional answer key appeared on the test day, while the response-form and objection window opened on 9 June and closed on 13 June. The schedule then provided a document-upload window through 21 June, before the final answer key and result on 29 June. These are separate milestones: the provisional key is not the final key, an objection is not a request to alter an individual score without evidence, and a result date is not an admission-offer date.
Result, preference registration and offer rounds
After the 2026 result, eligible candidates had a separate window to register for IISER counselling and submit an ordered list of academic programmes. The listed window was 2–9 July, both endpoints at 5 pm IST. This is where a candidate expressed preferences across campuses and programmes. The original exam application did not collect this later programme preference list.
The official site placed offer rounds from late July through 11 September. Candidates needed to monitor their portal and act within each round’s fee or response window. A seat acceptance fee and a counselling response are not interchangeable with the original IAT application fee. The fee page described rules for payment, adjustment against the first-semester fee after joining, withdrawal and refunds; each deadline had its own consequences. Missing a response deadline could remove the candidate from later rounds, while a formal withdrawal could end further participation. The final withdrawal date was 14 September at 5 pm IST, after the scheduled Round 9 response period.
Use the current offer page and the exact notice for the relevant cycle before paying or withdrawing. An IISER preference round does not automatically manage every other programme that accepts IAT. The 2026 brochure separately identified institutions such as IISc, IIT Madras, IIT Guwahati, IACS and IIEST; applicants to those routes had to follow the respective institution’s application and offer instructions.
Planning for the next announced cycle
No official IAT 2027 dates are established by the 2026 calendar. A practical planning checklist is therefore based on actions, not guessed dates:
- Check the official IISER Admissions portal for a new brochure and dated schedule.
- Read the eligibility and programme sections before registering, especially if a course requires Class XII Mathematics or a partner institution has separate rules.
- Save the official application, correction, hall-ticket, exam, answer-key, result and preference windows in one calendar only after the new notice confirms them.
- Keep the exam application, counselling registration, seat-acceptance payment and institute reporting as separate tasks.
- Recheck any extension, correction notice or revised round date on the official portal. A search result or old screenshot is not enough to establish that a deadline changed.
These steps help avoid a common planning error: treating the result announcement as the final stage. For IISER seats, programme preferences and later offer actions still matter. For external partner programmes, a second application may be necessary. Start with the official cycle page, then follow the institution-specific route you intend to use.
Official sources and date scope
The Joint Admissions Committee’s 2026 Important Dates page is the source for the application, test, result and scheduled counselling dates. Its separate Fees and withdrawal page provides round-level payment and withdrawal cutoffs. The 2026 brochure and admission-process page explain how preferences and partner-institution routes fit around those dates. The source pages were returned as official indexed content during this bounded check, but direct page opens timed out in this environment; exact links are included below for independent reopening. Dates and times above are not presented as a future-cycle forecast.
