First separate exam registration from admission
JAM has two application stages. The examination form registers you to sit for one or two test papers. After the result, candidates who qualify and meet programme requirements submit a separate admission application for the coordinated IIT route. Some institutes that use the score require a separate application through their own admission body. Completing the exam form does not submit your preferences for a postgraduate seat.
The steps below describe the completed JAM 2026 process as a practical reference. The current cycle’s instructions, portal dates, fees and correction rules must come from its official notice. The 2026 JOAPS page originally opened on 5 September 2025, and registration was later extended through 20 October, with payment through 25 October. Those dates are historical and should not be copied into a new calendar.
The 2026 JOAPS exam application sequence
The official procedure asked candidates to register on JOAPS with their name, an email address, an active mobile number and a password. JOAPS sent an Enrolment ID and OTP to those contact details. The candidate then used the Enrolment ID or email plus password to complete the form. Because notices could arrive by email and SMS, the official page advised using contact details the candidate personally checked and retaining access through the admission process.
Before opening the form, gather a recent photograph, signature image, Class 10 marksheet showing date of birth, and applicable SC/ST, OBC-NCL, EWS or PwD certificates. Check each file against the cycle’s prescribed size, format and certificate rules. PwD candidates requesting a scribe or compensatory time had additional forms identified in the 2026 notices. The official FAQ said that uploaded exam documents could be used again during the admission stage, so keep the originals and ensure names, dates of birth and category details match across records.
Choose the intended paper or papers only after checking the paper schedule and target programme requirements. JAM 2026 required one application form even if a candidate selected two test papers; the procedure warns that multiple applications could be rejected. A second paper was allowed only if its session did not overlap the first. For 2026, the fee table listed ₹1,000 for one paper or ₹1,350 for two for female/SC/ST/PwD applicants, and ₹2,000 or ₹2,700 for all others. The application fee was non-refundable, apart from a failed payment that was debited but not received by the portal, which the notice said would be credited back.
After filling the application and uploading documents, review spellings, category, date of birth, paper choices, examination city and contact details before paying. The 2026 site supported online payment through net banking, debit or credit card, UPI and wallet, with potential payment-gateway or merchant-bank charges. Download the completed application form with payment details, then sign into JOAPS periodically to track whether the status is received, under scrutiny, accepted, defective, corrected, rejected with reasons or ready for admit-card download. A submitted form is not necessarily an accepted form.
Correct errors using the notice for the exact field
JAM 2026 published separate notices for the registration deadline, payment deadline and data-correction windows. The application fee page said certain changes to exam city, test paper, category, gender or date of birth carried a ₹300 fee plus any applicable difference in the application fee. The notifications later specified particular data-change dates and eligible fields. These conditions are not an open-ended right to edit the form; if the portal flags a defect, follow the message and correction deadline for that defect.
Do not submit a second form to fix a mistake. The official procedure says one form should be submitted even when two papers are selected. Check the current cycle’s correction notice, make only the permitted changes, pay any stated fee and save the corrected confirmation. If a document is under scrutiny, monitor both portal status and registered contact channels. Keep screenshots or downloaded acknowledgments for your own records, but rely on the official portal status when deciding whether the correction is complete.
Apply for admission after the result
For JAM 2026, the scorecard became available on 26 March and the coordinated admission form opened on 27 March. A qualified candidate meeting the programme’s ER and MEQ had to submit a new admission application, provide academic and category information, and order eligible programme preferences. The admission form carried a separate ₹750 non-refundable processing charge. Its dates and fee were distinct from the examination registration stage.
For an IIT Admitting Institute, follow JOAPS and the offer-round instructions. If a seat is offered, check the response deadline, seat-booking amount, upgrade or freeze rules and withdrawal terms before acting. For a Result Sharing Institute, approach the institute or its admission body directly; JAM 2026 results were used by selected institutions through separate routes such as CCMN. Verify the programme’s paper mapping and separate form deadlines. One JAM result can support several applications, but the candidate remains responsible for each route.
Final pre-submit checklist
Before sending an exam form, confirm that your paper choices align with target programmes, one form contains all selected papers, documents are legible and correctly classified, the contact email and phone are yours, and the payment receipt is saved. Then monitor scrutiny notices. After results, repeat the eligibility check programme by programme, submit the separate admission form, rank preferences carefully and track offers. A qualifying mark or exam registration does not itself place you in the admission pool.
Use the current cycle’s official JOAPS procedure, fee table, eligibility FAQ and notices for every live action. The 2026 page remains a useful demonstration of the workflow and of how extensions were announced, but it is not a live application calendar for a later examination.
