VIT’s current VITEEE-2027 admissions page sets a two-hour computer-based test with 100 multiple-choice questions, section-specific timers and negative marking. The pattern is different from the 2026 paper: the 2027 structure has fewer questions and a shorter duration, while keeping the +4/−1 marking rule. The figures below describe VITEEE 2027 for B.Tech admissions in the 2027-28 cycle; do not use an older mock test as a substitute for the current pattern.
VITEEE 2027 sections and question count
The paper has two subject routes. MPCEA uses Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, English and Aptitude; BPCEA replaces Mathematics with Biology. The official distribution is:
Each question is multiple choice. VIT states that the question paper is in English. The subject option is not a casual preference on test day: VIT ties the route to the Class XII subject combination and to the degree programmes for which a candidate can be considered. Read the route and eligibility rules before applying, especially if you studied Biology and intend to choose BPCEA.
Two hours, divided into fixed section timers
VITEEE-2027 lasts 120 minutes. Unlike a paper with one freely shared clock, VIT assigns fixed time to each part: 50 minutes for Mathematics or Biology, 30 minutes for Physics, 30 minutes for Chemistry, and 10 minutes jointly for English and Aptitude. The four allocations add up to the full two hours. The official page does not describe these as flexible section limits, so plan on each timer being its own constraint rather than borrowing unused minutes from another subject.
Those allocations work out to about 75 seconds per Mathematics/Biology question, 72 seconds per Physics or Chemistry question, and 60 seconds per question across the combined English-and-Aptitude block. These are arithmetic averages, not VIT-prescribed pacing targets. One long question can consume the time for several short ones, so use timed practice to identify which question types routinely hold you up. In the last block, English and Aptitude share only ten minutes; practising each separately without also rehearsing the combined block can make the real allocation feel tighter than expected.
VIT describes VITEEE as a computer-based test and lists one appearance for VITEEE-2027. The page says a violation of this attempt rule can lead to cancellation of the application and admission. Do not plan around a second sitting in the same cycle. The current admissions page lists the test window as 27 April to 2 May 2027, tentatively; the exact day varies by test city and the slot details are to be communicated. Use the official portal for your assigned schedule rather than treating the date range as a personal appointment.
Marking: correct, incorrect and unanswered responses
For VITEEE-2027, a correct answer earns 4 marks, an incorrect answer loses 1 mark, and an unanswered question or one marked for review earns 0. With 100 questions, the maximum possible raw score is 400 before any wrong-answer deductions. VIT uses the rank secured in the CBT for B.Tech selection; the raw-score arithmetic alone does not establish a rank or an admission outcome.
The scoring difference between a correct and an incorrect response is five marks. That makes accuracy consequential: a wrong answer gives up the four marks it could have earned and also incurs the one-mark penalty. If you cannot narrow a question to a defensible choice, compare the possible gain with the penalty instead of treating every blank as a lost opportunity. The official page does not publish a guaranteed score-to-rank conversion or a fixed admission score in the pattern description. Rank and counselling prospects should be checked against the relevant year and programme, not inferred from the maximum score.
The page groups “unanswered / marked for review” under zero marks. It does not provide a detailed explanation of review-button behaviour or whether the interface permits revisiting a section after its fixed timer expires. Practise using the official mock test when enabled and follow the on-screen directions. Do not assume that marking a question for review gives extra time or overrides the section clock.
Choose MPCEA or BPCEA with the programme rules in view
VIT lists Mathematics as the route for candidates who want to be considered for all B.Tech programmes, subject to meeting the relevant academic criteria. Its Biology route is limited to named programmes. For VITEEE-2027, the official list includes Biotechnology at Vellore, Chennai and AP; Computer Science and Engineering (Bioinformatics) and Health Sciences and Technology at Vellore; and Bioengineering, Computer Science and Engineering (Health Informatics), and Computer Science and Engineering (Education Technology) at Bhopal. The available programme list and campuses belong to the 2027-28 admission cycle and may change in later years.
This distinction is worth checking before filling the application. The paper gives both routes 40 questions in the main subject, but Biology does not provide the same programme options as Mathematics. VIT also sets different subject-specific eligibility conditions for the two routes. The exam-pattern page is not a replacement for the full eligibility criteria: verify the Class XII aggregate, required subject marks and programme list on VIT’s current admissions site before selecting the subject combination.
What changed from VITEEE 2026
VIT’s own January 2026 article described that year’s pattern as 125 questions in 2 hours 30 minutes: Mathematics or Biology 40, Physics 35, Chemistry 35, Aptitude 10 and English 5. It also reported the +4/−1 marking scheme. The official 2027 admissions page now specifies 100 questions in two hours, with Mathematics or Biology 40, Physics 25, Chemistry 25, Aptitude 5 and English 5. Thus, the main-subject count stays at 40, while Physics, Chemistry and the two smaller sections have fewer questions. The overall maximum changes from 500 in the 2026 description to 400 in 2027 because the number of questions changes while the marks per correct answer remain four.
The 2027 page adds fixed section timers, which the 2026 article does not specify. It gives 50 minutes to Mathematics/Biology, 30 each to Physics and Chemistry, and ten minutes to English plus Aptitude. This is a meaningful practice change: a mock built for the 2026 duration and question distribution will not reproduce the 2027 pacing. Use the current VITEEE-2027 syllabus and official mock when available, and check for updates on VIT’s admissions site before your test.
Check the official page before test day
The official VITEEE page is the live reference for the 2027 rules. VIT’s 2026 article is useful only for understanding the previous pattern and the year-to-year change; it should not override the current 2027 page. Neither a raw-score maximum nor an earlier year’s question pattern predicts a future cycle’s paper or a particular student’s rank.
