Army Institute of Technology (AIT)

Admission to the Army Institute of Technology (AIT) Pune is strictly reserved for the wards of serving, retired, or deceased personnel of the Indian Armed Forces (Army, Navy, and Air Force). Unlike many state engineering colleges, AIT Pune conducts an independent admission process and does not participate in the Maharashtra state centralized counselling (MHT-CET). All undergraduate B.Tech admissions are based exclusively on the All India Rank (AIR) secured in the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for admission, candidates must meet both military background and academic requirements:

• Defence Background: The applicant must be a dependent ward of an eligible Army, Navy, or Air Force personnel. In general, the parent must have completed a minimum of 10 years of regular service in the armed forces. Wards of war widows or personnel who died in harness are also eligible.
• Academic Qualification: Candidates must have passed the 10+2 (or equivalent) board examination with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects, alongside one optional subject (Chemistry, Biotechnology, Biology, or a Technical Vocational subject). A minimum aggregate of 50% marks in these subjects is required.
• Entrance Examination: A valid All India Rank (AIR) in JEE Main is mandatory.

The Application and Selection Process

Candidates cannot secure a seat at AIT Pune solely by appearing for JEE Main; a separate application on the institute's portal is required. The process follows these stages:

1. AIT Registration: Candidates must register on the AIT Pune admission portal (erp.aitpune.edu.in) and pay the institutional application fee. For the 2026 admission cycle, standard applications closed on 15 April 2026, with a late-fee window extending to 11 May 2026.

5. Seat Confirmation: Allotted candidates must remit the seat reservation fee within the stipulated deadline to confirm their admission.

Migration to Second or Third Year

AIT Pune permits migration into the second or third year of B.Tech programmes, but this route is highly restricted. The candidate must have completed their previous engineering years at an institution within Maharashtra state, must still meet the foundational eligibility criterion of being an armed forces ward, and must have cleared all previous semester subjects without any active backlogs. Vacant seats for migration are filled strictly on academic merit from the previous qualifying examination.
