Army Institute of Technology (AIT)

Army Institute of Technology (AIT) Pune focuses entirely on undergraduate and postgraduate engineering education for the wards of serving and retired Indian Armed Forces personnel.

Undergraduate Programmes (B.E.)

AIT offers five four-year Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) programmes with a combined annual intake of 480 seats. Seats are strictly apportioned among the forces: 464 for Army wards, 11 for Air Force wards, and 5 for Navy wards.

• Computer Engineering: 120 seats
• Information Technology: 120 seats
• Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering: 120 seats
• Mechanical Engineering: 60 seats
• Automation & Robotics Engineering: 60 seats

From the fifth semester onwards, students can pursue Honours or Minor programmes in emerging Industry 4.0 technologies to specialize their degrees.

Postgraduate & Doctoral Programmes

AIT conducts advanced studies in specialized tech domains:

• M.Tech Data Science (under Computer Engineering)
• M.Tech VLSI & Embedded Systems (under Electronics & Telecommunication)
• Ph.D. in Computer Engineering

Admission Route and Eligibility

Admissions are strictly merit-based and restricted by family background.

• Background Requirement: The candidate must be a ward of eligible serving or retired Armed Forces personnel (Army, Navy, or Air Force), or a war widow. Detailed service certificates are required during the application process. The candidate must be an Indian citizen or a person of Indian origin intending to settle in India.
• Entry Route: B.E. admissions are determined entirely by the All India Rank (AIR) secured in the JEE Main examination. Candidates must register separately on the AIT admission portal with their JEE Main scores.
• Academic Eligibility: Applicants must have passed the Class 12 board examination with Physics, Mathematics, and one additional relevant subject (such as Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology, or a Vocational subject), securing the minimum qualifying marks prescribed by Savitribai Phule Pune University.

Detailed Fee Structure (2026-27)

For first-year B.E. students, staying in the campus hostel is mandatory. As a result, the initial payment includes both academic and residential charges.

The total listed fee for a first-year B.E. student in the 2026-27 academic year is Rs 3,83,730. This amount must be paid in full at the time of admission and is broken down into three main categories:

1. Academic Fees: Rs 2,31,030

This covers the core educational costs for the academic year:

• Tuition Fee: Rs 1,90,000
• Development Fee: Rs 25,650
• University Exam & Eligibility: Rs 6,450
• Value-Added Courses (Soft Skills): Rs 5,000
• Academic Wi-Fi: Rs 1,925
• Employability Training: Rs 1,875
• Accident Insurance: Rs 130

2. Hostel & Mess Fees: Rs 1,13,700

These charges cover mandatory residential living for the first year:

• Hostel Fee: Rs 57,750
• Messing Charges: Rs 49,500
• Laundry Charges: Rs 3,850
• Hostel Wi-Fi: Rs 2,000
• Barber Charges (applicable for boys other than Sikh students): Rs 600

3. One-Time Fees & Deposits: Rs 39,000

Paid only during the first year, this component includes non-refundable setup costs and refundable security deposits:

• Refundable Security Deposits: Rs 23,500 (College: Rs 1,000; Hostel: Rs 22,500)
• Uniform: Rs 7,700
• Registration Fees: Rs 4,050
• Mattress & Curtains: Rs 3,500
• Rule Book: Rs 250

Fee Policies and Refunds

The AIT management revises academic and hostel fees annually to account for operational cost increases.

AIT maintains a structured refund policy for candidates who withdraw their admission. A flat Rs 1,000 is deducted if the seat is surrendered before the official cut-off date. After the cut-off date, pro-rata deductions apply to the academic and hostel fees based on the date of cancellation and whether the vacated seat is successfully filled in subsequent counselling rounds.
