Chirala Engineering College (CEC)

Chirala Engineering College is a study in contrasts. It's a sprawling, green 31-acre campus with a solid 'A' grade from NAAC and the fresh autonomy from UGC, sitting in a quiet coastal town. But talk to students, and you'll hear a different story—one where the promise of autonomy meets the reality of modest placements and a traditional academic system. For over two decades, it has served as a primary engineering destination for students in the Bapatla and Prakasam districts, offering degrees at a cost that's hard to beat. If you're looking at it, you need to separate the official accolades from the on-ground student experience.

Courses and Academic Programs at Chirala Engineering College

CEC runs the standard JNTU Kakinada curriculum but with the new autonomy, there's potential for change. The intake numbers tell you where the focus is: Computer Science and Engineering gets 150 seats, with another 120 split between its AI/ML and Data Science specializations. That's over half the engineering intake right there. IT, ECE, and the VLSI-focused Electrical Engineering program each take 60. Core branches like Civil, Mechanical, and EEE have smaller intakes of 30 each, which says something about demand and likely placement outcomes.

The postgraduate side includes MCA (120 seats), MBA, and various M.Tech programs. Faculty strength is around 150, with department heads and senior professors typically holding PhDs. The teaching style, however, is repeatedly described by students as traditional—green boards, PowerPoint slides, and a tight focus on the university syllabus. The college has signed MoUs with training firms like EdifyPath and Zentree Labs for upskilling, and with Leo Global Edu for overseas consultancy. These partnerships are a clear nod toward bridging the industry-academia gap that students often complain about.

Chirala Engineering College Placements: Packages, Companies & Reality Check

This is where the gap between brochure and reality feels widest. The official line cites an 80-84% placement rate. Dig into student reviews on platforms like CollegeDunia and Shiksha, and a different figure emerges: alumni consistently report an effective on-campus placement rate closer to 40-60%. The college's verified highest package for 2024-2025 is ₹6.2 LPA, though you might see an unverified claim of ₹8 LPA floating around.

The average package for undergraduates clusters between ₹2.8 and ₹4.5 LPA, with a median around ₹3.32 LPA. For postgraduates, it's slightly better at about ₹4.15 LPA. Recruiters are a mix of IT service giants and local industry. TCS, Wipro, Infosys, Tech Mahindra, and Cognizant are named as visitors. But so are Janaki Steels and Surya Tech. The consensus among students is that the big-name MNC visits are infrequent, and many offers come from smaller startups or require students to hustle through off-campus drives.

If you're in CSE or IT, you have a decent shot at an IT services role. For core branches, the path is tougher—most mechanical or civil engineers end up pivoting to software roles or pursuing higher studies. The placement cell is active, but temper your expectations.

Fees and Financial Aid at Chirala Engineering College

Affordability is CEC's undeniable strong suit. A B.Tech degree here will cost you roughly ₹1.6 to ₹1.98 lakh in tuition over four years. That's just ₹40,000 to ₹49,500 per year. Postgraduate courses are similarly priced: MBA and MCA at ₹35,000 per year, M.Tech at ₹50,000.

The big variable is hostel and mess fees. A non-AC hostel seat ranges from ₹30,000 to ₹40,000 annually. Opt for AC or premium accommodation, and that can jump to between ₹80,000 and ₹1.2 lakh per year. Add in semester exam fees and other charges, and your total annual cost can vary widely based on your living preferences.

For eligible students, the major financial aid is the Jagananna Vidya Deevena (RTF) scheme from the Andhra Pradesh government, which provides full tuition fee reimbursement for SC, ST, BC, and Minority students. It's a significant benefit that makes this college a viable economic choice for many families.

Admissions: Eligibility, Cutoffs & Selection Process

Admissions are entrance-exam driven. For B.Tech, you need to write the AP EAPCET. For MBA/MCA, it's the AP ICET. M.Tech admissions consider GATE or AP PGECET scores.

The cutoffs aren't fiercely competitive, which aligns with the college's positioning. For the 2024 counseling round, the closing ranks for the general category give you a clear picture:

• B.Tech CSE: 56,996 – 157,638
• B.Tech AI & ML: 99,511 – 130,109
• B.Tech ECE: 108,713 – 161,191

Seats are filled through a 70:30 split—70% via the convener quota (state counseling) and 30% via the management quota. Those management quota seats are where your EAPCET rank matters less, but the fee might be higher. The process is straightforward: qualify in the exam, participate in the state counseling, and lock in your seat based on your rank and availability.

Campus, Hostels and Student Life

The 31-acre green campus is the most universally praised aspect. It's peaceful, non-polluted, and provides a lot of open space. Sports facilities are good, with grounds for cricket, football, and volleyball, and the college encourages participation in district-level events.

Infrastructure is a mixed bag. Labs for CSE and ECE are reported to be well-equipped. Mechanical and Civil labs, however, are often described as just functional or aging. The library has a large collection, but students note that many technical books are outdated. Wi-Fi is there, but coverage is patchy—reliable in labs and the library, spotty in hostels.

Hostels are basic but adequate. Separate blocks for boys and girls, rooms come with a bed, table, and chair. The canteen is large, but food quality gets an average rating of 3 out of 5 from students. The social life is what you make of it; Chirala is a small town, so the campus is the main hub of activity. Some find the discipline and attendance rules overly strict, calling it a "school-like" atmosphere.

Student Reviews: What Chirala Engineering College Alumni Really Think

Synthesizing feedback from CollegeDunia, Shiksha, and Quora paints a consistent picture. The positives are the serene campus, the low cost of education, and generally supportive faculty, especially the junior staff who are seen as approachable.

The criticisms are just as consistent. Placement quality and frequency top the list. "MNCs rarely visit" is a recurring theme. There's frustration with an outdated curriculum that lacks practical depth, forcing students to rely on external resources for competitive exam prep. Administrative delays and slow grievance redressal are common complaints about the management.

One paraphrased quote sums up the pragmatic view many hold: "The college is good for those who want a degree at a low cost, but don't expect high-end placements." Another notes, "Faculty members are helpful, but they mostly teach from the textbook. You need to study on your own."

Verdict: Is Chirala Engineering College Worth It?

Chirala Engineering College is a specific solution for a specific need. It's worth serious consideration if your priorities are: (1) obtaining an accredited, autonomous B.Tech degree at one of the lowest tuition rates in Andhra Pradesh, (2) studying in a calm, green environment away from city chaos, and (3) you are a self-starter who doesn't mind supplementing classroom teaching with your own online courses and project work.

You should probably look elsewhere if: (1) your primary goal is guaranteed, high-paying campus placements from top-tier companies, (2) you thrive on a cutting-edge, industry-integrated curriculum, or (3) you want the vibrant social and internship opportunities of a major city. CEC provides a solid educational foundation and a degree, but the onus for building a strong career profile rests heavily on the student. It's a budget-friendly launchpad, not a career rocket ship.
