Vishwakarma Bhavan houses the Department of Management Studies (DMS) within the IIT Delhi campus in Hauz Khas. Management students rely on both dedicated departmental resources and the extensive central infrastructure of the institute. The campus is accessible via the Munirka, Hauz Khas, and RK Puram metro stations.
Academic and Study Spaces
Students use two distinct library systems for their coursework and research. The DMS Departmental Library, located inside Vishwakarma Bhavan, holds management-specific materials, including corporate annual reports, working papers, and subscriptions to journals like the Harvard Business Review. For broader academic requirements, the IIT Delhi Central Library operates as a larger ICT-enabled facility offering RFID circulation, remote access to e-resources, and inter-library loan services.
General campus computing requirements are supported by the Computer Services Centre, supplementing the department's own IT infrastructure used for analytics and management modules.
Residential and Daily Living
The Board for Hostel Management (BHM) administers 13 student hostels across the campus, comprising 11 for boys and 2 for girls. Each hostel is managed by a warden-in-charge alongside an elected student body that handles housing, mess, and sports functions. The hostels operate as self-contained units equipped with dining messes, reading rooms, indoor game areas, and internet connectivity.
For daytime meals between classes, the main IIT Delhi canteen is situated close to Vishwakarma Bhavan and the Central Workshop, providing a convenient dining option outside the hostel messes.
Health, Fitness, and Recreation
The institute maintains facilities for daily health and physical recreation:
- Medical Care: The IIT Delhi Hospital operates 24/7 to serve students and staff. The facility provides allopathic and homeopathic OPD treatments, dental care, and physiotherapy. It includes a pathology lab for routine tests, X-ray and ECG equipment, and a minor operation theatre for immediate care. An ambulance service manages emergency transport and referrals to nearby empanelled hospitals.
- Sports Complex: The Students' Activity Centre is the primary indoor recreational hub, featuring an Olympic-size swimming pool, a gymnasium with multi-gym equipment, squash courts, and table tennis halls. The Board for Sports Activities oversees these along with outdoor facilities, including cricket, football, and hockey fields.
Campus Access and Location Constraints
IIT Delhi is a secure campus with monitored entry points, which directly impacts daily routines.
- Security Checks: The main gate is the primary access point for regular entry. Secondary gates, such as those near Adchini or Katwaria Sarai, are subject to restricted operating hours and strict security verification. Visitors and non-residents must carry valid identification or formal invitations to enter academic zones.
- Internal Navigation: The campus covers a large area, and walking distances between the hostels, the main gates, and Vishwakarma Bhavan can be significant. Students with mobility limitations or those carrying heavy project materials need to plan their transit and use the most convenient gate to minimise daily walking times.
