Latest published positions: read the category carefully
As of 2 November 2026, the latest NIRF Management edition available in the official source reviewed here is India Rankings 2025. It places the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi at rank 4 in the Management category, and says IIT Delhi retained fourth place for the second consecutive year. This is an institution-level NIRF result, not a separate rank for DMS's full-time MBA or MBA Telecom. NIRF 2025's official report and the DMS pages identify the result under IIT Delhi; applicants should keep that distinction when comparing a department with a dedicated business school.
DMS's Executive MBA page separately reports that the department ranked fourth in India in the QS World University Ranking for Business and Management Studies 2025. This is a subject ranking and DMS's own page attributes the position to that QS edition. See the official NIRF 2025 report and DMS Executive MBA page for those latest statements. The NIRF and QS results are different ranking products, with different categories and evaluation systems. They should be read as two publisher-specific signals, not averaged into one score or treated as interchangeable evidence about a particular programme's outcomes.
NIRF Management results over time
DMS's ranking page reports NIRF Management ranks of 9th in 2019, 8th in 2020, 5th in 2021, 4th in 2022 and 5th in 2023. The official NIRF 2025 report says IIT Delhi was fourth in both 2024 and 2025, remaining at that position for two consecutive editions. Across this 2019-2025 sequence, the institutional Management rank improved from ninth to fourth, with a one-place movement between fourth and fifth in the 2022-2024 editions before the 2025 result.
That is a description of published ranks, not a prediction that the next edition will repeat fourth place. A rank is relative to the participating institutions and the edition's category. Changes can reflect both an institution's own result and other institutions' results. DMS's historical page itself stops at the 2023 row; the 2024 and 2025 facts here come from the department's current Executive MBA page and the Ministry's 2025 report, not an extrapolation from the older table.
For comparison, retain the exact category and edition beside each rank. The NIRF sequence is for Management; it is not IIT Delhi's Engineering or Overall rank, and it is not a department-only DMS rank. The official report lists the institute, so this indicator supplies institutional context for a management applicant rather than a standalone evaluation of a single degree.
QS subject ranking: an India position, not a global place
On its DMS Ranking page, the department lists its India position in the QS World University Ranking for Business and Management Studies as 5th in 2019, 5th in 2020, 3rd in 2021, 4th in 2022 and 4th in 2023. The current DMS Executive MBA page adds a fourth-place India position for the 2025 subject edition. The cited DMS statements give the India position; they do not give a global rank in the passages used here. Do not restate fourth in India as fourth worldwide.
The series shows that the reported India position moved between third and fifth across the listed editions. It does not measure every programme feature an applicant may care about, and it cannot establish the placement outcome, teaching experience or fit for a specific applicant. The publisher's subject category is Business and Management Studies, so compare it with the same QS subject and edition if you use it alongside another institution's result.
The DMS page has no 2024 QS entry in the historical table. That omission is a gap in the page's listed series, not evidence that the department was unranked or that the 2023 result carried forward. The newer 2025 statement is presented separately from the historical rows, preserving the years shown in each source.
Use rankings as one input to a decision
Start by checking who is ranked, which category is named, the publisher, the edition year and the geography attached to the position. For DMS, those details change what a number means: NIRF's recent Management result is an IIT Delhi institutional position, while the QS wording on the DMS page is a department-reported India position in a Business and Management Studies subject ranking. A generic line such as “ranked fourth” without these qualifiers would blur unlike results.
For a programme decision, use the rankings as background and compare them with the information that maps directly to your priorities: the published programme structure and admission route, verified fee categories, cohort-specific placement evidence, and the facilities or support you expect to use. Ranking position does not answer whether the class format, location, fee burden or career path suits you. Those questions require their own evidence, which should be read with its own year, programme and source scope.
The DMS Ranking page currently provides a historical table through 2023, so check the linked NIRF edition and the current DMS page before citing an older position as the latest one. The latest verified NIRF result used here is 2025; if a later edition is released, update the rank and the source year together. Until then, keep the 2025 result as the latest available edition in this article and leave future rank claims out.
