Students at the Department of Management Studies (DMS), IIT Delhi, can access various financial assistance programs offered by the institute. These include need-based tuition waivers, merit-driven scholarships, and research fellowships designed to reduce the payable cost for postgraduate and doctoral scholars.
Merit-cum-Means (MCM) Scholarships
IIT Delhi offers Merit-cum-Means (MCM) scholarships to eligible students across its technical and postgraduate programmes. While the institute explicitly lists specific postgraduate tracks (such as M.A., M.Sc., and M.P.P.) in its general guidelines, the scheme represents the primary financial aid avenue for eligible postgraduate students whose family income meets the threshold.
- Financial Benefit: The current value of the MCM scholarship is ₹4,000 per month for General, OBC, and EWS students. Recipients also receive a complete exemption from paying the tuition fee.
- Eligibility Criteria: The scholarship is offered to approximately 25% of students whose annual family income is up to ₹8 lakh.
- Application and Renewal: Students must apply by uploading valid family income proof annually on the institute's ERP portal. To retain the MCM Scholarship in subsequent semesters, recipients must maintain a minimum SGPA and CGPA of 6.0.
Institute Free Studentships
For students who meet the financial need criteria but fall outside the top 25% MCM scholarship limit, the institute provides a secondary layer of support.
- Financial Benefit: A 100% tuition fee waiver.
- Eligibility Criteria: The Institute Free Studentship is offered to an additional 10% of students strictly on the basis of means (annual family income up to ₹8 lakh) when the number of eligible students exceeds the 25% MCM quota. Application is handled through the same annual income declaration on the ERP portal.
Tuition Fee Exemption for SC, ST, and PwD Students
IIT Delhi mandates specific fee waivers for students from reserved categories to ensure accessible education.
- Tuition Exemption: A full tuition fee exemption is admissible to all SC, ST, and PwD students, irrespective of their parents' or guardians' income.
- Free Messing and Pocket Allowance: SC and ST category students whose annual family income is strictly less than ₹8 lakh are eligible for additional benefits. This includes coverage of basic mess menu charges plus a pocket allowance of ₹1,000 per month for a fixed duration of their programme. Valid family income proof must be uploaded annually on the ERP portal to claim this benefit.
PhD Fellowships and Assistantships
DMS IIT Delhi provides substantial financial support for full-time doctoral scholars pursuing research in management.
- Institute Fellowships: Full-time research scholars receive a monthly stipend based on their academic progress and performance. This assistantship is available to students who do not already hold an equivalent external fellowship.
- External Fellowships: Scholars can also be funded by government organizations, such as UGC (Lectureship or Research Fellowship), CSIR, ICAR, ICMR, DST, or INSPIRE. These national-level fellowships often offer higher stipends for students working on specialized research projects.
- Postdoctoral Fellowships: Recent PhD graduates engaged in advanced research can access competitive stipends and additional funding to attend academic conferences and workshops.
Processing External Scholarships and Bank Loans
Students who are funding their education through bank loans or scholarships from outside agencies must follow a distinct fee payment process. Rather than using the standard online gateway, the department requires these students to generate a fee challan online and submit their fee payment via a Demand Draft (DD) drawn in favour of the "Registrar, IIT Delhi".
