IIT Bombay's 2026 new-entrant table gives the following first-semester figures for students admitted through JEE (Advanced). Amounts are in rupees.
The balance row is the payable balance after the specified acceptance credit, not the full cost of the semester and not the original amount paid during JoSAA. The page expressly excludes JoSAA's ₹5,000 processing charge from the credit figure. Budget the mess advance separately, and use the payment demand issued to your own account for the final transaction.
The academic-fee difference between the Indian GEN/EWS/OBC-NCL and SC/ST/PwD columns is ₹1,00,000 for this semester. IIT Bombay's circular states that SC, ST and PwD students are exempt from tuition fees. That exemption does not remove non-tuition academic charges, hostel charges, deposits or food costs: the listed academic fee remains ₹34,150 and the hostel fee remains ₹19,950. The institute also lists separate undergraduate remission and scholarship schemes; eligibility and application requirements should be checked on the current scholarship page rather than assumed from category alone.
For the 2026 UCEED entrant route, the same schedule listed academic fees of ₹1,34,150 for GEN/EWS/OBC-NCL Indian nationals and ₹34,150 for SC/ST/PwD, with ₹19,950 hostel fees and a ₹22,500 mess advance. The balance after the acceptance amount was ₹94,100 and ₹39,100 respectively because the displayed credit was ₹60,000 or ₹15,000 for that route. The common academic and hostel line items do not mean the two admission routes have the same amount due at every step. Check the route-specific offer and fee demand.
Foreign-national figures also require the fee circular's definition. Foreign nationals allotted supernumerary foreign seats pay the foreign-national rate. The table notes that valid PIO/OCI card holders issued before 4 March 2021 who are allotted an OPEN-category seat pay the Indian-national rate. Do not compare the foreign-national academic line with an Indian student's tuition alone; compare the full category, admission route and fee period.
There is no safe single M.Tech, M.Sc. or Ph.D. total to quote without the admission category and course. IIT Bombay's 2026-27 academic circular separates on-roll and new-entrant fees by programme and category. For postgraduate and doctoral applicants, teaching or research assistantship, project, fellowship, sponsored, external and self-financed categories can carry different fee and funding arrangements. A stipend or assistantship is a separate funding condition with work expectations; do not subtract it from a published fee unless the offer and fee circular explicitly support that calculation. Read the correct programme and new-entrant rows, then check the matching hostel schedule.
The two-year SJMSOM MBA has its own four-semester fee table for the 2026-28 batch. The school publishes a total programme fee of ₹15,55,800 for General/EWS/OBC-NCL and ₹7,55,800 for SC/ST/PwD candidates. Its semester table shows ₹2,00,000 tuition in each of four semesters for the former group and zero tuition for the latter. The resulting difference is ₹8,00,000 across four semesters, exactly the difference between the tuition lines; other fees remain. The published page separately itemises one-time admission charges and refundable deposits, and labels hostel and mess as optional if availed. The hostel and mess advance should therefore be added only when applicable, using the school's breakdown. These are programme totals for the 2026-28 MBA batch, not figures for all IIT Bombay postgraduates or for the next MBA batch.
For a research applicant comparing offers, distinguish an assistantship from a tuition waiver. For a family comparing undergraduate costs, distinguish an exemption from every fee from an exemption of tuition only. Those distinctions affect what a student must actually arrange for admission and each semester. The official IIT Bombay UG scholarship page lists institute scholarships, fee remission, free-messing facilities for SC/ST students, private scholarships and government scholarships as separate support routes. Their availability and eligibility are not a substitute for confirming the amount due on an individual offer.
For a 2027 applicant, use the 2026 numbers to understand the bill's components, not to plan a guaranteed amount. The institute had not published a 2027-28 new-entrant fee table on the pages checked as of 27 October 2026. Fees may be revised, and separate programme circulars may appear at different times. Recheck the academic-fee and hostel-fee circulars when your admission cycle opens.
Before paying, confirm five items in the notice for your programme: the semester and batch named in the circular; the academic fee for your admission and category; whether tuition is exempt or reduced; the hostel charge and whether accommodation is offered or optional; and the mess advance, deposits and acceptance amount credited. Keep refundable security deposits separate from non-refundable charges when comparing totals. For the MBA, use SJMSOM's own batch-specific table; for UG and other academic programmes, use the Academic Office's current new-entrant circular and your admission portal demand. This gives a decision-ready estimate without treating last year's fee as a promise for the next intake.
