IIT Bombay - Indian Institute of Technology (IITB) (IIT Bombay) in Maharashtra has historical cutoff records for GATE, JEE-Advanced, IIT-JAM, UCEED, CAT on this page. There is no single cutoff for the whole college: read each course, category, quota and round separately. Coverage below reflects the records on this page.
The latest recorded year is 2025. 39 records in that group cover 1 named category. Across the available years, 43 distinct course labels are recorded.

IIT Bombay does not publish one permanent cutoff that guarantees admission. For undergraduate engineering seats, the relevant historical figures are JoSAA opening and closing ranks, produced after a specific counselling round. Each row is tied to an institute, academic programme, seat type or category, gender pool and round. The official JoSAA 2026 rank selector is for the 2026-27 academic year and lets applicants choose these fields. Its values change by round as seats are allocated, so a figure without those qualifiers is not a complete cutoff.
The opening rank is the best rank that received an allotment for that row; the closing rank is the last rank in that row to receive one. These are past allotment outcomes, not marks thresholds set in advance by IIT Bombay. A candidate ranked just outside an earlier round's closing rank may be offered a seat later if choices and vacancies change, while an earlier closing rank does not promise the same outcome in a later year. Treat last year's or an early-round rank as context for choice filling, never as a predicted guarantee.
On the JoSAA Opening and Closing Ranks page, select the academic year, round, institute type, IIT Bombay, exact academic programme, and seat type/category. The 2026 selector labels this as JoSAA 2026 for the 2026-27 academic year. Save or note the complete row and the date you checked it. If you are comparing a prior year, use the previous-years archive and keep the same programme and category wherever possible.
The rank basis differs by seat category. JoSAA says OPEN-seat opening and closing ranks use the Common Rank List (CRL). EWS, OBC-NCL, SC and ST rows use the corresponding category rank lists. PwD rows use the PwD rank within the respective category. Therefore, do not compare a category rank directly with an OPEN CRL rank as if they were the same scale. A suffix “P” indicates a preparatory rank list, as explained on the JoSAA page.
Gender pools also matter. Some programmes have gender-neutral seats and female-only (including supernumerary) seats. The rank range for one pool cannot be used to estimate the other. When comparing rounds, use the same pool and category; otherwise the apparent movement may reflect different seat groups rather than a change in demand for the programme. Check the seat matrix and applicable reservation rules alongside the rank data.
JoSAA and JEE (Advanced) govern the IIT engineering routes. The opening/closing-rank table is not the same thing as JEE (Advanced)'s qualifying cutoff, which determines eligibility for a rank list, nor is it a JEE (Main) cutoff. IIT Bombay's B.Tech, B.S. and JEE-based dual-degree offers are allocated through the relevant JoSAA process. A candidate needs an eligible JEE (Advanced) rank and must follow that year's counselling process; an exam result alone is not a seat allotment.
Other degrees use other selection systems. IIT Bombay's B.Des route uses UCEED and its own admission rounds, while master's programmes can use GATE, JAM, CEED, CAT or a programme-specific process. A JoSAA B.Tech cutoff cannot be applied to B.Des, M.Tech, M.Sc., MBA or Ph.D. admissions. For those routes, consult the appropriate examination authority and the current IIT Bombay department or academic-office notice; some programmes publish shortlists or qualifying criteria rather than JoSAA-style opening and closing ranks.
A previous-year closing rank is most useful for building a preference list, not predicting a seat with precision. Seat counts, applicant preferences, rank distributions, programme names and counselling rules can change. A shift between an early and later round may also reflect candidate upgrades, withdrawals or the movement of seats across rounds. Do not treat the rank range as a measure of teaching quality or the relative value of two disciplines.
When comparing two programmes, first decide whether you would genuinely accept each one. Then review their current curriculum, course structure and career direction. Listing a programme higher means you prefer it if it is available; do not rank choices based only on an old closing number. Follow JoSAA's business rules for choice order, willingness, document uploads, seat-acceptance payment and reporting. The authority warns that failing to complete required steps can cancel an allotted seat.
Use the official live 2026-27 selector for the exact current round rather than copying an unattributed table. Keep a record of the round, programme, category, gender pool and rank basis. Check the 2026-27 seat matrix and rules for available seats and eligibility. If a future intake is your target, wait for its own JoSAA schedule and opening/closing ranks; do not relabel 2026 data as a 2027 cutoff.
As of 27 October 2026, the official JoSAA page reviewed provides a dynamic 2026 rank lookup, but the research viewer does not expose the selected result rows as static text. This guide therefore does not quote sample IIT Bombay programme cutoffs. That avoids presenting a rank from the wrong round or category as current. Open the official selector, choose the exact filters and use the resulting row as the authoritative 2026 reference. A prior year's rank remains context only; no rank can guarantee admission in the next cycle.
