NIT Durgapur’s scholarship information is spread across its dated notice archive, admission notices and research calls. The latest scholarship-specific page reviewed does not show a currently open general award cycle for the 2027-28 intake. It does show older scheme notices, and the 2026-27 PhD advertisement has a separate statement about regular research-scholar support. Applicants should check the relevant live notice before counting any award toward their budget.
What is confirmed in the current institute record
The institute’s Scholarship notice board lists a 2025 summer-internship programme, a 2024 internship notice and older scholarship notices dated 2022 and 2021. Among those older entries are OPJEMS 2022, Swami Vivekananda Merit-Cum-Means, Hakeem Abdul Hameed financial aid, Swami Dayanand Education Foundation, Bihar post-matric and West Bengal OASIS notices. Their appearance in an archive does not mean applications remain open, that the same terms continue, or that an applicant in 2027-28 is eligible.
For research applicants, the institute’s odd-semester PhD advertisement for 2026-27 says scholarship, fellowship or financial support under Ministry of Education norms is available to selected regular research scholars in Category A, with the matter handled by the Dean of Student Welfare office. The advertisement does not give a universal rupee amount in that statement. The support is conditional on the scholar category and selection, so it should not be assumed for a part-time, professional or other PhD category without checking the relevant call.
The 2026 admission page also distinguishes M.Tech self-sponsored and sponsored notices and labels both 2026-28 programmes “without scholarship.” That phrase applies to those specific routes. It does not establish the terms for regular CCMT seats or for other programmes. Applicants should read the notice for their exact programme and admission route rather than infer the same funding rule across every NIT Durgapur course.
Scholarship, fellowship and fee remission are different
A fee waiver reduces a specified fee component; it is not necessarily a cash award paid to a student. NIT Durgapur’s 2026-27 fee schedules describe tuition remission for eligible groups and show the non-tuition charges separately. The scope and percentage differ by programme and category. Use the official fee schedule and current admission notice for those amounts; do not treat an old scholarship notice as proof that tuition or hostel costs are covered.
A scholarship or financial-aid scheme may have its own sponsor, domicile or category requirements, academic conditions, renewal rules, application portal and deadlines. A fellowship attached to a research call can also depend on scholar status and the sponsoring department. The institute’s 2026-27 PhD statement supports only the Category A regular research-scholar case described above. It does not supply a single amount that can be applied to every doctoral candidate.
Before relying on support, identify whether the notice describes (1) tuition remission, (2) a scholarship or financial-aid award, (3) a research fellowship, or (4) a sponsored academic programme. Then verify who pays it, which academic year it covers, whether it is paid to the student or adjusted against fees, and whether hostel or mess costs are included. The sources reviewed do not establish those details for a general 2027-28 award, so no amount or net-cost estimate is provided here.
How to verify an opportunity
Start with the scholarship notice board and the Admission 2026 page, then open the actual notice or scheme guidelines. Check its publication date, application window, programme, year, eligible categories, sponsor, benefit, renewal conditions and required portal. If a notice points to a government or state portal, use that portal’s current rules for domicile and eligibility; an old institute-hosted process sheet is not a substitute for the new cycle’s instructions.
The archive contains historical state-scholarship process notices. For example, its older Madhya Pradesh process described online registration and a document set for fresh and renewal applicants. That material is useful only as evidence that scheme-specific paperwork may be required; its process and documents should not be reused as current instructions. The scholarship page’s dated entries likewise need a new notice before they can guide an active application.
Keep copies of the current scheme notice and submitted acknowledgement. Confirm whether the application goes to the government portal, the institute, or both, and whether the institute must certify enrollment or fee details. If an award is delayed or a portal requests a document not covered in the notice, ask the named scholarship office rather than relying on a previous year’s checklist.
Where to ask
NIT Durgapur’s official contact directory lists an Assistant Registrar (Scholarship) and the Dean of Student Welfare. Contact the office with the exact scheme name, academic year, programme and application status. For fee remission questions, use the current admission and fee notices as well, because scholarship administration and fee assessment may be handled through separate processes.
At the time of review, the institute’s scholarship board was last updated on 27 April 2026 and the scholarship-specific items it displayed were dated 2025 or earlier. The evidence reviewed therefore supports a guide to where applicants should verify funding, not a claim that a particular general scholarship is open for 2027-28. Check again when the next cycle’s official notice is published, and use its terms in place of historical examples.
