Prakasam Engineering College (PEC) is a private institution in Andhra Pradesh that’s built a reputation for delivering solid, no-frills engineering education at a cost that won’t break the bank. Established in 2001 and now autonomous, it’s affiliated with Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Kakinada (JNTUK). With an NAAC ‘B++’ grade and a sprawling 20-acre campus in Kandukur, PEC positions itself as a practical choice for students from the region and beyond. The college’s story isn’t about chasing top-tier NIRF rankings. It’s about consistent placements with major IT firms, a functional campus, and a focus on getting graduates job-ready. And for many students, that’s exactly what they’re looking for.

Courses and Academic Programs at Prakasam Engineering College

PEC offers a standard spread of engineering programs, but it’s kept pace by adding newer specializations. The B.Tech intake is over 300 students annually across core branches like Civil, Mechanical, EEE, ECE, and CSE. Where they’ve adapted is in tech-focused fields: you can now opt for B.Tech in CSE with specializations in Artificial Intelligence, Cyber Security, or a dedicated Data Science program. That’s a smart move for a college targeting the IT placement market.

Postgraduate options include M.Tech, MBA, MCA, and M.Sc., while after-10th Diploma programs in engineering trades are also available. The academic culture, as described by students, is straightforward. Faculty are generally seen as helpful and knowledgeable, with a mix of experienced PhD holders and newer M.Tech graduates. The teaching leans practical, with a focus on clearing concepts. But there’s a caveat. A minority of reviews point out that some faculty are freshers who struggle with explanation, and attendance rules can be strict. It’s not a uniformly elite faculty, but for the fee bracket, most students find it adequate and often supportive. The college became autonomous in 2023, which should allow for more curriculum flexibility going forward.

Prakasam Engineering College Placements: Packages, Companies & Reality Check

This is the section everyone scrutinizes. The official line is a placement rate of over 70% for eligible students. Dig into student reviews on platforms like CollegeDunia and Shiksha, and that number gets both support and nuance. Many alumni confirm placement percentages in the 70-85% range for branches like CSE and ECE. But you’ll also find comments about a “very least number of students placed” in a given year, often blamed on broader market recessions. That’s the reality of mid-tier private colleges—they’re exposed to hiring cycles.

The package data requires a careful read. You’ll see a wide spread:

• Highest Package: Claims range from ₹8 LPA (a more recent, conservative official figure) to student-shared numbers of ₹11 LPA, ₹15 LPA for VLSI roles, and even an unverified ₹20-30 LPA. The safest bet for a typical top offer in recent years is between ₹8-15 LPA for standout students in CSE/ECE.
• Average Package: This is where you plan. For CSE, it’s been reported around ₹5.6 LPA (2023). For ECE, around ₹4.8 LPA. More general student sentiment puts the working average for many between ₹3.5 and ₹6 LPA. One review cited a low of ₹2 LPA for their CSE batch. So, the expectation should be set in the ₹3.5-5 LPA range, with better performers exceeding it.

The recruiter list is impressive on paper: TCS, Infosys, Wipro, Tech Mahindra, Accenture, IBM, Capgemini, Cognizant, and even names like Amazon and Microsoft appear. The key is volume—these majors do recruit, but the number of offers varies. The placement cell gets credit for organizing training, mock interviews, and bringing companies in. Internship support seems active, with claims of over 100% of students getting internships and some securing roles with DRDO and ISRO for research.

Verdict? The placement story is PEC’s main strength relative to its cost, but it’s not a guaranteed ticket. It provides a credible platform, especially for IT roles, but individual preparation still dictates the outcome.

Fees and Financial Aid at Prakasam Engineering College

This is arguably PEC’s most compelling argument. The annual tuition fee for B.Tech is remarkably accessible, ranging from ₹55,000 to ₹60,000. Over four years, the total course fee is cited as just ₹1.2 to ₹1.5 lakhs for tuition. Postgraduate fees are similarly low: MBA is around ₹30,000 per year, while M.Tech is ₹1,00,000 per year. You can view the latest fee structures on the official college website.

Hostel fees add another ₹30,000-₹40,000 per year, with mess included. Throw in other mandatory fees (uniform, library, etc.), and the total annual cost for a B.Tech student staying in the hostel can be around ₹1-1.2 lakhs. That’s exceptionally low for a private engineering college.

Financial aid is a strong suit. The college actively facilitates scholarships. A significant 50% of students were reported to receive some form of scholarship in 2023. Schemes include:

• State-level fee reimbursement for SC/ST/OBC/EWS categories.
• Merit scholarships for top performers in entrance or semester exams (₹10,000–₹20,000 awards).
• Need-based aid with fee concessions up to 100%.
• National Scholarship Portal schemes.
• The Jagan Anna Vasathi Deevena scheme provides a ₹20,000 annual grant for hostel fees.
• Scholarships for sports, extracurriculars, and girl students.

For a student from the region eligible for state schemes, the net cost can become negligible. That’s a powerful draw.

Admissions: Eligibility, Cutoffs & Selection Process

Admissions are centralized through state counseling based on entrance exams. For B.Tech, you need a valid AP EAMCET or JEE Main score. The 2025 AP EAMCET cutoffs give a clear picture of demand:

• CSE (Artificial Intelligence): 29,584
• CSE: 43,798
• ECE: 48,380
• Data Science: 58,091
• EEE: 136,071
• Civil/Mechanical: ~175,000

As expected, CSE and its variants are the most competitive, with ranks under 60,000. Core branches like Civil and Mechanical have much more relaxed cutoffs, often above 170,000. The overall B.Tech cutoff range for 2025 was between 59,283 and 180,115. There’s also a management quota, with fees for CSE reportedly going up to ₹1.2 lakhs per year.

For M.Tech, you need a GATE or AP PGECET score (2024 cutoff was around rank 21,862). MBA/MCA admissions require AP ICET scores (2025 cutoffs around 17,431 for MBA). Diploma admissions are through AP POLYCET. The process is standard: qualify in the exam, participate in the relevant counseling (like AP EAPCET), get allotted, and complete document verification at the college.

Campus, Hostels and Student Life

The 20-acre campus in Kandukur is described as spacious and modern. Classrooms are airy and equipped with projectors. Labs are generally well-equipped, though some student reviews note older computers or ACs in a few labs—a common gripe in many colleges. The library is a plus, with over 20,000 volumes, digital resources, and quiet study spaces.

Hostels are separate for boys and girls, with the girls’ hostel on campus. Reviews are largely positive: rooms are clean, well-furnished, and have attached bathrooms. Safety and security are rated well. The mess food gets a “good” rating generally, though you’ll find the occasional complaint about dinner quality or North Indian food not suiting local palates. It’s par for the course.

Infrastructure includes a canteen, banks, medical facilities, and college transport. Sports facilities are decent—a gym, volleyball and badminton courts, a cricket pitch, and indoor games like table tennis and carom. Wi-Fi is said to cover the campus, but some first-year students mention limited or no access. The social life is where the rural location shows. Students say fests are few, and the atmosphere is more studious than “vibrant.” It’s a campus where you can focus, but don’t expect a metropolitan college experience.

Student Reviews: What Prakasam Engineering College Alumni Really Think

Synthesizing the chatter from review sites and forums paints a consistent picture. The overwhelming sentiment is satisfaction relative to investment. The most common praises are for infrastructure (“modern classrooms, good labs”), helpful faculty, and value-for-money placements. A typical positive review highlights the placement cell’s effort and the supportive environment.

The criticisms are equally telling. Beyond the occasional lab or Wi-Fi complaint, the notable negatives are about inconsistency. A few students feel some faculty are underqualified. The social scene is quiet. Most importantly, while many laud placements, a few report disappointing outcomes for their batch, with lower packages or fewer companies visiting. This gap isn’t unusual—it highlights that a college’s average placement record doesn’t guarantee every student a job.

Management is generally viewed as supportive, especially during placement drives. There’s no significant mention of administrative hassles or ragging issues, which adds to the college’s reputation as a safe, stable choice.

Verdict: Is Prakasam Engineering College Worth It?

Prakasam Engineering College makes a very clear case for a specific type of student. If you are a cost-conscious candidate from Andhra Pradesh with an AP EAMCET rank between 30,000 and 180,000, looking for a stable, accredited college with a direct path to IT and core company placements, PEC is a strong contender. Its low fees, coupled with extensive scholarship options, make it one of the most affordable private engineering options in the state. You get a functional campus, decent faculty, and a legitimate shot at a job with a brand-name IT firm.

Who should look elsewhere? If your rank secures you a seat in a top-tier NIT, IIIT, or a highly reputed private university, that’s likely a better long-term bet. If you prioritize a bustling campus life with numerous fests and a cosmopolitan peer group, the rural setting of Kandukur will feel limiting. Also, if you’re aiming for the highest echelons of tech placements (₹20-30 LPA+ as a common outcome), this isn’t the typical launchpad.

For the vast middle—students seeking a practical, affordable engineering degree with a good probability of a decent job—PEC delivers on its promise. It’s a workhorse institution, not a showhorse. And in today’s education market, that’s a valid and valuable niche.
